For the aborigines, this is a sacred place, near the rock, they carry out their rituals to this day.

This rock in the middle of the desert was discovered for Europeans in the second half of the 19th century, and was first named after a local statesman. Only a hundred years later, she was given back the name given by the aborigines. Uluru is composed of red sandstone. He is able to impute color within 24 hours: black, purple, purple, red, pink, gold. These changes look fantastic. Today this whole area is a national park, it was visited by about half a million tourists.

Australia's Founding Day is celebrated on June 3. We advise you to go on a trip in the summer and see many interesting places on the fifth continent.

1. Uluru... Rising in the middle of the desert, this orange-brown rock is a true symbol of Australia. This rock has been a place of worship for the aborigines since ancient times, and this is not surprising. After all, the rock consists of red sandstone, which surprisingly changes color depending on the lighting, so it looks different time days in different ways. In addition, from under the mountain there are many springs, which is amazing for the desert and the only place where you can find water for tens of kilometers around.

2. Great Barrier Reef ... This reef is the largest coral reef in the world and is therefore a favorite for divers. In fact, the Great Barrier Reef consists of over 2,900 shallow reefs surrounded by coastal islands. This reef is visible even from space and is the largest structure created by living organisms.

3. Kakadu National Park ... It is a cultural and natural landmark in Australia. The park is surrounded on all sides by mountains, has a huge territory, equal in area to the territory of Israel. There is a restaurant on the tower, and for the bravest there is a Sky Walk. This is a walk along a glass corridor at an altitude of 260 meters. The floor in the hallway is also transparent!

9. Pink Lake Hillier ... Located in Western Australia and is another unsolvable mystery of the continent by scientists. The fact is that it is still completely unclear what gives the water its pink color. Previously, there was an opinion that these are some kind of special algae, but this guess failed - there are no algae in the lake at all.

10. Horizontal Falls at Talbot Bay ... This amazing waterfall not only falls horizontally, but also changes the direction of the flow of water several times a day. This invariably delights all tourists. The secret of the waterfall lies in the very narrow distance between two rocks, between which the water is squeezed. And given the powerful tides in the bay, everything becomes scientifically explainable. But still incredible!

Australia is an amazing and unfamiliar place for Europeans. After all, you see, except for a kangaroo and a marsupial bear, nothing immediately comes to mind. But, in fact, there are many miracles on this continent.

For lovers of the water element, the ocean, the exotic beauty of the natural landscape and unique species of animals and plants, a place like Australia is ideal. The island is also famous for its Koala Sanctuary. There are three ways to get there: by boat (from Cultural Center Pontoon in Brisbane, Queensland), auto (buses # 430, 445), car rental (GPS coordinates: 27.533333,152.96861).

Hospitable Queensland Zoo

The Australian Zoo is located in Beerwa, pcs. Queensland. The world-famous long-living turtle (175 years) - Henrietta once lived here. It was studied by Charles Darwin.

The zoo has many viewing platforms equipped with seats for visitors. In the center there is a stadium where you can watch the performances of crocodiles and other animals. Comfortable conditions have also been created for its abodes: tigers, elephants, rare birds, cheetahs, turtles, lemurs, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, kangaroos.

The Temple of the Tiger is also interesting here - a transparent pavilion, in which 15 individuals of the species representatives of the cat family live

The indestructibility of a stone wave

The pretentiousness of natural phenomena often makes you admire its strength and originality. Near the small town of Hayden (350 km from Perth) on the western part of the Australian mainland, it is unclear how the stone block was formed in the form of a wave. You can get there in 4 hours by any vehicle. More than 140,000 tourists come to see this miracle every year. Science dates the formation of a granite rock 60 million years ago!

When can I visit? In any season. The price for climbing a rock is changing, you need to clarify.

The height of the phenomenal block is about 15 m, the length is 110 m. Its originality is also in the change in the shade of the rock with the difference in daily illumination. You can even climb up a specially adapted ladder.

Cape Byron romance

Located on the easternmost point of the mainland. The name in 1770 the cape received from the English naval sailor and traveler - James Cook. From the cape it is very convenient to admire the vastness of the ocean, a beautiful architectural water structure - a white lighthouse. Tourists are attracted by the attraction precisely for its beauty and inspiring romance.

Time of stay - any (as agreed with the tour organizers). The price varies depending on the type of travel.

Due to its location, the cape makes it possible for tourists to be the first to meet the sunrise in Australia. Here they watch humpback whales, turtles, stingrays. Admire the vastness of the Gondwana forests and Mount Warning National Park after climbing to the volcanic ancient crater.

Natural phenomenon - horizontal waterfalls

To the north-west of the mainland itself, you can find an interesting phenomenon of the water element. Oceanic water flows between rocky island formations. When the tide intensifies, a strong current forms in the ducts. In addition, it is formed by the narrowness of the clefts of the rocks. And the difference in threshold levels makes the water even more dynamic. As a result, we have a great view - seething waterfalls. But they are almost horizontal!

The rapids are 5 m high, 10 m wide, 20 m wide. For a fee, you can order an air excursion by helicopter or small seaplane. Land cruises last 4-14 days. They are usually ordered between April and October.

Wild sandy island Fraser and unique Fr. Middle Island

Previously, such an island was simply called “Paradise”. This name was given to him by the aborigines who lived here. Natural spaces have remained practically unaffected by human civilization. Therefore, this area is interesting for its many unique wild-growing plants and fauna.

You can look at the unique "hanging" lakes from afar, which received this name because of the visual effect of floating on the island above the salty ocean surface. Scientists still do not understand how fresh water appears in lakes in the absence of rivers and other sources. Presumably from swamp streams and springs. Today, this landmark is protected and put in order because it is on the verge of extinction due to heavy pollution by tourists.

The tourist season is all year round. The cost of walks is not set at the state level.

In total, there are over 40 fresh water lakes on the island. Here you can also admire the dunes. Some reach heights up to 240 m.

On the west coast the islands are covered with beautiful mangrove forests. But they have swamps. So it is not recommended to walk there without a guide.

On the island of Middle Island, located in the southwestern part of Australia, there is a unique object - pink lake Hillier. Its water is really that color. And scientists still have not solved the riddle of why the water takes on such a shade. It is salty. Salt was mined in the lake. True, not for long - only 6 years (early XX century).

Around the lake, you can also walk in the eucalyptus forest or along the beach with white soft sand.

Barrosa Valley - the origin of Australian wines

The Barrosa Valley is located on the southwestern side of the Green Continent, 60 km from Adelaide. The Northern Para River flows through its territory. One of the many valleys in Australia where grapes are grown and a wonderful drink is prepared according to old recipes

The main road runs through the entire valley. Therefore, getting to its cities will be easy with any vehicle.

Winemaking is another industry that, along with tourism and water sports, significantly boosts the economy of the entire country. In the state of South Australia, it is this valley that belongs to the main wine-growing region. The plantations are owned by the owner of the most famous Australian brand "Penfolds Grange".

Popular tourist activities in the valley:

  • Climbing to the top of Mengler Hill.
  • Australian Wine Festival.
  • Riding biker moto.
  • Hot air balloon flights.
  • Visiting restaurants in the towns of the valley, where wine tasting is offered.

The main three cities:

  • Tanunda;
  • Nariutpa;
  • Angaston.

Travel time is May-September. The cost depends on the type of event.

This place is worth visiting not only for a visit to the famous local cellars and wine tasting, but also just to admire the beauty. The landscape of the farm and horticultural lands and the whole nature in general are mesmerizing!

The Wine Festival in Australia lasts a long time - a whole week! But it is held only once every 2 years.

Commemorative Port Arthur (prison)

The attraction is located in a plane isolated from the continent - to the southeast of it on the island. Tasman in the state of the same name. The distance between Australia and the island is 240 km, from Hobart - 97 km. Separates the island and the mainland by watering Bass. There are also other islands nearby - Kang, Flinders, Macquarie and others.

Visit time - any. Cost is included in the tour service.

Today quests and real attractions "Haunted Travel" and stuff like that are held here. One needs to dress warmly for the visit. The island has a rather cold and damp climate.

After the colonization of Australia by Europeans, criminals were often exiled to Tasmania and imprisoned. The most terrible place for convicts was the Port Arthur prison. Today the building and church are well preserved and serve as a museum. A visit to such an object allows you to get an idea of how the convicts lived during the time of the current prison.

The southernmost part of the inhabited planet - Tasmania

The cluster of islands is remarkable not only for its unique location, but also for its popularity among tourists and athletes. This Australian state is considered one of the southernmost populated areas of the planet because the ocean and another continent, Antarctica, begin further. Beautiful landscapes and unique nature make you admire these places throughout your stay.

It is better to visit the islands during the seasons directly related to mass events. If you just want to relax - then April-October - will be ideal for you.

The following sporting events are held annually in Tasmania:

  • Regatta - sailing, rowing, where ships of different classes usually participate.
  • Racing on sailboats or yachts.
  • Ski activities.

The capital of Tasmania is the city of Hobart. Competitions are usually held on a route from Sydney to Hobart.

For fans of water extreme, it will be interesting to know that a difficult route with different weather conditions en route is envisaged for the passage of regattas.

Tasmania is home to the southernmost ski slopes in Australia. In total, there are 28 mountains, which are measured in height - more than 1220 m. The highest point - "Legs Tor" is located in the mountain range "Ben Lomond". It is 60 km from Launceston.

The lowest point is 1500 m, the highest is 1780, drops, jumps - up to 280 m. It is best to come during the skiing seasons - June-September.

If you want to admire such a natural wonder as the Horizontal Falls in Australia, you need to consider the ebb and flow times. And inquire about the strength of the tidal current on the website of the local Hydrometeorological Center. Because when there are no strong by-catches, then, alas, the stormy waterfalls disappear.

Review from a tourist

Oleg Barkovsky.

“I didn’t expect the Port Arthur Museum of Convict Life to be so interesting. Especially when you go around all the expositions with a guide. Without a guide telling about the old days, there is, in fact, nothing to do. The visit is free, but the price for the services of the guide is included in the tour price. Each building is interesting in its own way. The prison itself has been destroyed, but the walls are still standing. Of all the museums I've visited in Australia, I consider this place to be the most amazing of all the others that talk about Australian history. "

Australia is an incredible country, here everyone will find something new for themselves. If you love animals, then first of all visit the East Coast, if you prefer the landscape, then follow to Western Australia. Australia has many excellent cities, I personally liked Sydney, Melbourne, Perth (although Canberra is the capital of Australia, there are not many places worth seeing). When visiting Australia, it is best to rent a car. It can be expensive, but it will allow you to see a lot more, and not depend on the standard tourist routes, but rather choose what is worth visiting. The main cities on the continent are definitely worth seeing, but in the article I present 10 others best places in a country that I think should be visited in Australia.

1 Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island is Australia's third largest Island after Tasmania and Melville Island. To get to Kangaroo Island, you need to take a ferry to Adelaide. Many tourists prefer to visit Phillip Island rather than go to Kangaroo Island. Having visited both islands, I can say that the island seemed more interesting to me. True, on that day the weather was cool, and I did not take my jacket with me, which I very much regretted. So, when you go to the island, it is better to take something warm with you. Kangaroo Island is home to white kangaroos - wallabies, which I was lucky to see, sea lions and small blue penguins that appear at dusk for food. I really liked that there are few tourists on the island and that you can calmly enjoy observing nature and animals. Also I am delighted with the excursion led by the local resident of the island.

Fraser Island has a fantastic location. It is the largest sand island in the world, spreading over 1,840 km 2. It is wrong when some tourists try to choose between going to Fraser Island and going to the Great Barrier Reef. If you have the opportunity, then it is better to visit both - you will not be disappointed. Most tours start on the mainland at Hervey Bay, where you can book a tour, take your vehicle and take a ferry to Fraser Island. You just need to buy yourself food and drinks before departure. On the Island, you can spend two or three days exploring all the interesting places. Don't miss the famous Champagne Pool (pool of champagne), where you can lie down, and the Rivers of Moheto, where you can take exceptional photos. Just watch out for dingo dogs. They run around the camping areas at night in search of food and are not afraid to approach people.

3 Great Barrier Reef

No trip to Australia is complete if you don't visit. The world famous reef is located near Queensland and it is the largest coral reef in the world, spreading over 2,600 km and with more than 900 islands. The most famous island is called Trinity Day. If one of your friends has already visited the east coast of Australia, then you have probably already seen a postcard depicting this island. I would recommend visiting these islands by boat, ideal for a few days to see as many attractions as possible. You can also scuba dive and enjoy the incredible cuisine that is often served on boats. There are many types of tours on sale that take tourists to the coastal town of Airlie Beach, and you can always choose the price that suits you best. The Great Barrier Reef has all sorts of incredible fish, including clownfish, red bass, emperor red throat, tiger shark and yellow-faced sea angels, as well as some of the most beautiful colored corals. Just beware of touching corals - it hurts!

4 Kakadu National Park

Kakadu National Park is located in the Northern Territory and covers an area of 4,894,000 acres. Here you will also get to know the alligator river that flows through the park. Of course, you can go to Kakadu on your own, but I would recommend taking a tour. The tours will give you the opportunity to meet local Aborigines who have chosen to stay in their ancestral homes instead of moving to cities. I enjoyed the evening walk to the Twins Falls, where you had to swim 200m to reach the falls, but I heard that you can also walk to it. Please note that it is not worth planning a trip during the rainy season, as large parts of the park are closed and crocodiles come out of the water to play! and this is not safe! Before traveling to Australia it is worthwhile to familiarize yourself with the information about the danger.

The Red Center consists of three locations: the orange-red rock Uluru Rock, the Kata Juta mountain range, and Kings Canyon. When visiting the Uluru rock, you can choose 2 options: go around it, or climb it. Many tourists prefer to climb the cliff, but the natives warn not to do this, as Uluru is one of their spiritual monuments. Walking around the cliff, I saw that the ancient drawings date back 10,000 years, which is a fantastic walk, but for me it turned out to be quite exhausting. It seemed to me that Kata-Juta is a more impressive mountain. Kata Juta is located 25 km from Uluru, it has 36 sandstone domes, and covers an area of almost 22 km². Here you can go for an 8-kilometer walk across the boulders; I liked the walk as it brings a sense of peace, because when you slowly walk around the mountain range, a light breeze blows your face.

The final part of the trilogy is Kings Canyon, which is 300 meters high. Like the other two mountains, this is an incredible place and there are two walking options to choose from. The first is 2 km long, which runs at the base of the gorge. But, if you want to fully see Kings Canyon, then you should still choose a route that completely covers the entire canyon.

Purnululu National Park is located in Western Australia. Unfortunately, due to its location, this part of the country is rarely visited by tourists. In vain, Western Australia is my favorite part of Australia. It is very beautiful here and you rarely meet other travelers. When you visit Purnulul National Park, the first place to visit is Bangle Bangle. "Bangle Bangle" is a striped tiger-colored sandstone cliffs. This is something incredible! You can walk around the Bangle Bungle or see them from a helicopter. A helicopter flight is expensive (at least for me), but I still looked at the top view, and did not regret it, since the impressions I received were worth it.

7 Port Broome

The port and city of Broome in Western Australia is not as famous as national park Purnululu. However, if you're curious about exploring Australia's pearl capital, be sure to plan your trip to Broome. This is the place where the most pearls are found and one of the 10 best beaches in Australia. Broome is the most relaxing place I have been to. Here you get the feeling that time is disappearing. I was planning to stay in Broome for a couple of days, but stayed for a week. And my brother, whom I advised to stay in Broome for a week, stayed for 2 weeks. In the evening it is interesting to watch a movie in the open air, and then sit in a bar. This is a very special place! Be sure to visit! You will not regret it!

In the Barossa Valley, I fell in love with. The Barossa Valley is Australia's most famous wine region, producing well-known brands such as Penfolds, Orlando Wines, Wolf Blass and Yalamba. I liked the sightseeing tour of the Valley with visits to wineries. If possible, then you should not go behind the wheel of a car yourself in order to enjoy the taste of wine, without caring how you will get behind the wheel after that. During the tour, I visited 5 wineries where I had the opportunity to taste different kinds wines, and enjoy three types of lunch, including kangaroo, crocodile and white sea bass. True, I didn't, eat kangaroo meat, I feel sorry for such a wonderful animal, but I tried the crocodile and perch. It was delicious. I advise you too, try it!

Byron's Bay is a coastal region in New South Wales. After visiting Sydney and Brisbane, you will immediately notice that Byron's Bay provides a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Byron's Bay is full of artists, giving the trip a creative Bohemian feel. The bay is a good place to relax and get unusual gifts for family and friends. There are many pools in the bay, even in the beach area, and you can relax enjoying the tranquility and swimming in warm water.

The Great Ocean Road runs along the southeastern coast of Australia in Victoria between Torquay and Warranambul and is 243 km long. During the trip, tourists enjoy amazing landscapes from special observation points. I really liked the rocks that protrude from the ocean and are called "The Twelve Apostles." It is a very photogenic place, especially at sunset and sunrise. I enjoyed the views of nature all day to see all the sights in detail, and I recommend that to you too. There are various options for day tours, but I think it is better to travel on your own to stop where you like rather than where the guide recommends.
