Is it good to ride a reserved seat at the beginning of the carriage. Railway carriage schemes. A seated car is the cheapest option

Are you going on the road and do not know which carriage is better to choose on the train? For some, this question is less fundamental, but if there is still a difference, it is better to contact the cashier in advance in order to have more room for maneuvers and choose the most suitable place.

Most rail carriers are ready to offer passengers several types of wagons. They are distinguished by their comfort and cost.

In such a car there are free-standing soft chairs with armrests, the car is somewhat similar to the cabin of an intercity bus or plane, but there is much more space.

You can take a ticket to a seated carriage if the trip lasts several hours, and the body does not have time to get tired of the monotonous posture.

Seated cars can differ in the number of seats, their location and class of service.

Despite the individual seats, a seated carriage will not be the best choice for long journeys.

Econom-class train

This is the most common type of carriage that combines relative comfort with low cost. The carriages have nine compartments, each of which has six seats. There are no doors between the compartments, they are connected by a common corridor.

Each compartment of a reserved seat carriage is equipped with tables. Third shelves and compartments under the seats allow you to store even the largest luggage without taking up useful place... Old trains with reserved seats may not be the most comfortable to travel. A fully occupied carriage can be cramped and stuffy. But in branded trains reserved seats are much newer and more convenient: with air conditioning, dry closets and a large number of outlets.

Separately, carriages of the general type are distinguished - the same reserved seat with three seats on the bottom shelf. Common carriages have several serious disadvantages:

  • reserved seat shelves are devoid of a headrest and a soft back, it is not very comfortable to sit on them;
  • due to the lack of armrests, a feeling of tightness is created;
  • tickets for a shared carriage are usually sold without specifying a seat.

Common carriages are the least comfortable, but cheap.

This type of carriage implies a breakdown of seats into blocks of four in each, there can be 32 or 36 seats in total. Some cars can be equipped with an additional compartment for two seats - numbers 37-38. The compartments are completely isolated from each other, the door is locked. Each compartment has a hanger, hooks for clothes, a table, a mirror, instead of the third shelf, there is a special niche for luggage.

Compartment cars are in demand due to a good combination of comfort and cost. There are not so many people in the carriage, there are no extraneous conversations, personal belongings are guaranteed to remain safe. Often, carriers hold promotions, according to which the upper bunk in the compartment costs about the same as the space in the reserved seat.

It's comfortable in the compartment, but you don't need to worry about the safety of things.

These carriages are usually equipped in such a way that the feeling of being at least in a three-star hotel room is created. A soft carriage can have from 4 to 6 compartments, which differ in layout and number of berths. Each compartment has a TV, air conditioning, armchair, soft sofa, shower, dry closet. Every morning a fresh hot breakfast, a terry towel, and a shower set are brought to the soft carriage. Of course, you have to pay dearly for luxury - a ticket for a soft carriage can cost more than an air flight.

Convenience comes at a price

Luxury carriage

The carriages of the SV type are reminiscent of compartment cars, but they are more comfortable. The standard suite has 18 seats, two in each compartment, no upper bins. Among the advantages of the suite, one can single out the presence of a call button for the conductor, an air conditioner, and sometimes even a TV.

Like a soft carriage, a luxury car will cost much more than a classic coupe - (by 60-100%).

The choice of a carriage on a train should depend on such key factors as cost, duration of the journey and the level of comfort required. If you are not used to noisy companies and value cleanliness and order, you will have to fork out, especially when you have to travel far. At the same time, there are much less expensive offers for short trips and picky passengers.

The previous article was popular, therefore, on the eve of summer, I decided to turn again to the topic of train travel and highlight some more tricks and non-obvious points associated with this type of travel. If anyone missed, then the first article on this topic. Knowing these things makes your trip more comfortable or predictable, and some things can even save your life (seriously!)

Tricks for the train passenger

1. Numbers of seats in the car

People sometimes get confused and can't figure out which place they are buying. In fact, everything is simple. The odd numbers are the lower shelves. The even ones are the top ones. Rooms from 1 to 36 are compartments (9 compartments with 4 seats). From 37 to 54 - side seats in the reserved seat. And yes, 37 and 38 are the very sides of the toilet!

As for which places are better to choose, you can argue for a long time. Traditionally, it is believed that the last compartment in the reserved seat is worse than the rest, and the worst seat in the carriage is 38 (the upper side of the toilet). By the way, in new cars the vacuum toilet can work quite noisily, then the last compartment of the compartment car will differ from the rest, a little for the worse. But, for example, shelves 35 and 36 in the reserved seat (the last compartment, seats on the right) are good from some point of view, better than 33 and 34. In most cars (but not new ones) there is a partition at seats 35.36, which protects your feet from the door. The same partition protects from unwary passengers. Have you ever been woken up by people passing by accidentally hitting your leg? Me - yes, especially if you go on the lower shelf (I do not like the lower shelves). Someone is limited by this partition, but for me it’s more useful than harm.

Personally, I do not like the first compartment in the reserved seat for the reason that it is quite light there at night - in the service aisle the light is usually not extinguished and slightly interferes with sleep. In general, based on the theory of probability, on average, the quietest and quietest seats will be in the middle of the carriage (17-20 and lateral 45-46), if we assume that it is quieter where people pass by less. This is in a standard carriage with toilets on both sides. But how it will be specifically in your case - no one knows. There will be a snoring passenger in this middle of the car, and suffer like this all night 🙂

2. Cheaper ticket categories

For some time now, Russian Railways has had a different approach to the cost of different seats in the car. In my opinion, it is perfectly reasonable that places of different levels of comfort should differ in price. Today this has been implemented, although not always and everywhere.

It works like this. We go in and start looking for tickets in the direction. We are shown some prices. Then we move on to entering data, continue with the registration, and then we find that the final price is significantly higher than the one that was indicated during the search. It's just that when we search, they show us the minimum prices, and the place is automatically selected at the maximum. So for the minimum cost, you have to choose a place yourself.

The problem is that at the moment the Russian Railways website does not inform us in advance what place costs how much, we find out about this only at the stage of the last data check. And the situation is not always the same. Possible options that I have identified empirically:

  • in a compartment the upper shelves can be cheaper than the lower ones;
  • in reserved seat all upper shelves may be cheaper;
  • side top shelves may be cheaper;
  • the last compartment of the reserved seat, near the toilet, seats 33-38 may be cheaper;
  • maybe the only 38 shelf, the side of the toilet, can be cheaper.

It happens that the 38th shelf is sold at one price, and the rest at the same price. And it happens that the 38th shelf is the cheapest, the upper shelves are more expensive, and the lower ones are even more expensive. But the 38th shelf will not necessarily be cheaper than the rest of the upper ones. It happens that you have to brute force to figure out what the Russian Railways came up with this time.

3. Emergency exits to compartments 3 and 6

For those who feel stuffy and who like to open windows. In new cars it is irrelevant - the air conditioner works - but for the old ones everything is the same. Let me remind you that there are two compartments in the carriage with emergency exits through the window. These are always compartments numbered 3 and 6, the number of seats in the carriage is 9-12 and 21-24. On the window there it is written - "Emergency exit". You cannot open it without the need.

In fact, there are especially gifted people who open such windows. It is difficult, but it can open just like usual. But if, after all, someone has guessed to open such a window, then in no case should you try to close it. I remember a story when a conductor tried to close such a window while the train was moving. The window did not close immediately, and she guessed to stand on the table. As a result, it flew out of the carriage along with the window - this is an emergency exit!

If the window is open, you should tell the conductor about it. Maybe they will try to close it while parked at the station. But personally, in the place of the guide, I would have left it until the end of the route. So if you do not want to drive with the window open all the way and freeze at night, then do not touch it. And don't touch it at all!

4. How many errors can there be on the ticket?

I have heard several times that up to three mistakes are allowed in the name and surname or passport number. In fact, when I worked as a conductor (although it was in 2008, I doubt that something has changed), according to the instructions, we had to let the passenger into the carriage if there was an error in one (!) Letter or number. It was allowed that two adjacent letters or numbers were interchanged. I think if you have 2-3 mistakes in your last name, and your passport number is spelled correctly (or vice versa), then, probably, you will still be put on the train. But it's better not to risk it and carefully check your details when buying.

Obviously, it is necessary to present the document for which the ticket was purchased (passport, foreign passport, military ID). The document number and name on the ticket must match the document. I remember the cases when conductors put passengers with errors in the ticket “for a reward”. But this is forbidden, rarely anyone will go for this, according to the rules, the conductor simply must refuse boarding.

5. Do I need to print a paper ticket

With the introduction of electronic check-in, we have been able to travel without the traditional orange tickets. Now you can buy a ticket on your own on the Internet and travel on it. We are provided with a paper ticket, which is a document of strict accountability. By the way, do not forget to check that the ticket has a mark “Completed electronic registration”. Today, in 99 cases out of 100 when buying on the Internet, electronic registration is completed automatically. But there are still trains where, in principle, it cannot be. If you bought such a ticket, then you will need to print out an orange ticket for it at the box office or in the terminal, otherwise they will not be put on the train. So we are still checking to make sure there are no surprises.

About the need to print a paper ticket. The following is written on it;

“Print this coupon or keep it on your mobile device and present it along with the identity document on your e-ticket upon boarding.”

In fact, the conductors do not ask for this printout in 90% of cases. If they have lists, then they will look for your last name on the list, checking only your passport. True, it happens sometimes that they do not have lists. Then something confirming is needed. Personally, I don't print anything right now, but if necessary, I show the ticket in the smartphone app. I use the unofficial Russian Railways Supplement, I wrote about it, it is very convenient.

By the way, I once ran into a story when they didn't want to put a man on a train. He passed electronic registration, and on the ticket it was written about it, I saw it myself. But for some reason he was not on the landing lists. The situation was resolved, the head of the train called somewhere, registered him. Then he told him that he somehow had not completed the registration. I have no idea what it could be. If only he registered, printed the form, and then canceled electronic registration... Or a failure at Russian Railways. I don’t think it’s worth worrying too much about such opportunities.

6. When does boarding start and when it ends

We're not talking about intermediate stations, where boarding starts in accordance with the schedule, but about the initial ones. Here, boarding starts exactly 30 minutes before departure. Often the composition itself is served to the platform earlier. And some passengers like to walk to their carriage, it is especially interesting in winter, and stand on the platform to wait and remember the conductor with an unkind word. You can also start knocking on the window. So all this is pointless, planting should start the same throughout the entire train, in exactly 30 minutes. Then it will be announced at the station about the beginning of boarding your train. So if you arrived at the station early, then sit quietly in the building. Peregrine falcons, by the way, are often served even later, usually in 20 minutes.

5 minutes before departure, the train station announces that “there are 5 minutes left until the end of boarding”. After this announcement, the conductor will ask everyone who is still on the platform to enter the carriage, and then walk through the carriage to check if there are any accompanying people.

2 minutes before the departure of the train, they announce “train such and such leaves from such and such a route”. Exactly so, they have already announced that the train is leaving, but there are still two minutes before the departure. By the way, this also applies to suburban trains. Therefore, if you are late for the train and hear such an announcement, then you should not despair. There is still a little time to try to make it.

7. Is it possible to jump on the train on the go

In the movies, we have seen more than once how passengers run along the platform after a train that has already started moving and jump into the open doors. In reality, this will never happen. The conductor is obliged to close the doors immediately after the train has started. Landing passengers when the train has already started moving is more expensive. In addition to the fact that you can get a fine, it may well turn out that the passenger confused the train (not the carriage, but the train!). And what will the conductor do with it when the train is already moving?

Therefore, if you ran to the already closed door, then knocking and asking to let you in is pointless. We just turn around and go to the cashier, try it (we can still expect to receive some amount).

To prevent such situations, we arrive at boarding in advance, and if we already feel that we are not in time for our carriage, then we run into the first one we come across. The conductor is obliged to board you upon presentation of a ticket for this train.

For situations when you are already on the train and got off at an intermediate station. There, theoretically, it will be possible to sit on the move, most likely, the conductor will wait, in this case it is already unprofitable for him, if you stay, write the reports later. But it is better not to lead to this, besides the fact that the conductor risks a fine, it is also elementary dangerous. Therefore, we follow the rules, listen to the requirements of the conductor, and enter the car in advance!

8. Is it possible not to buy bedding

Today it is impossible to refuse to buy bed linen in compartment and SV coaches. But in the reserved seat you can. In 2017, underwear costs 138 rubles, and over time, this figure is gradually increasing, along with inflation.

But it must be remembered that paying for bed linen gives you the right to use a mattress, pillow and blanket. If the linen is not paid for, then you cannot use them, so the option with your own linen will not work. Therefore, such savings only make sense if you plan to sit all the way. No one forbids hikers to lay out their foam and sleeping bags 🙂

By the way, if you have not included bed linen in the ticket in advance, then it can always be purchased from the guide for the same price.

9. Bandage for sleeping

It is completely incomprehensible to me why this attribute is not very popular among travelers. After I appreciated the convenience of the bandage for sleeping, I never part with it at all, especially when traveling in any transport.

Thanks to this accessory, we become independent from the lighting in the car. You can sleep during the day. But even at night there are some problems on the train, for example, that you are already going to sleep, but the light is not turned off. Once I was traveling in a reserved seat carriage, where an inexperienced conductor left a dim light all night. You could go and ask to turn it off, but it was easier to put on a bandage and not think about it.

10. Do I need to pour the tea myself

When we buy tea from the guide, it is not at all necessary to pour boiling water on our own. In many cases, the guide himself will offer to carry you the tea to your location. But it happens that the conductors are too lazy to do this and limit themselves to giving you a glass in a cup holder and a tea bag in your hands. To prevent this from happening, you do not have to ask for tea and wait. We approached the conductor, said: “Bring tea to such and such a place, please,” and that's it, let's leave. We'll pay the money when it comes. The guide is not a fool, of course, he will bring you tea, it is beneficial for him. You don't even have to go after him, you can grab the guide when he walks past your place. С - service.

Although I do not force anyone to strain the guide once again, some people like to pour themselves tea themselves.

Are you going to hit the road and do not know in what place and in which carriage it is best to travel? Before going to the ticket office for tickets, you need to decide on the seats. If you think about buying a ticket in advance, then there should be no problem with the number of vacant seats. This means that you can tell the cashier about your preferences, and he will try to take them into account.

First, decide on the type of carriage. Coupe, reserved seat, SV or seated car. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Passengers usually choose the appropriate option depending on their financial situation, physical condition and the presence of children traveling with them. Let's consider each of the types of cars.

  • In a compartment car, the contingent is usually calmer and more polite. And there are usually fewer passengers. This significantly reduces the queues for the toilet and for water. There is always a mirror on the door, which is very convenient for putting yourself in order. Probably the only drawback of the compartment car is the ticket price. It is almost twice the price for a seat in a reserved seat. If finances permit, it is better, of course, to travel with greater comfort.
  • The plazkart carriage has both disadvantages and advantages. Minuses: a large number of people are looking at you, it is uncomfortable to sleep, because you have to think about keeping your legs out of the shelf, the condition of such cars is often poor, toilets are closed at stations, there are queues in the morning. Of the advantages, I would like to note, of course, the acceptable cost of the ticket. Also, the presence of folding tables on the side seats, which is very convenient. There are no walls, as in a coupe, which opens up more space, etc.
  • The SV carriage or sleeping car is very comfortable and pleasant. There are only 2 shelves, which is very convenient when you are traveling together. Sometimes there is a TV inside the compartment for watching movies. For long journeys, a sleeper car is the best choice, if, of course, it suits you according to your financial situation.
  • And finally, a sit-down carriage, which is usually interregional, that is, such trains travel short distances. Such a car does not differ in any conveniences, it looks like an ordinary minibus or a bus. An acceptable option if you are not far away and you want to spend the least amount.

Having decided on the carriage, you need to find out how the seat numbers are distributed in the carriage of your choice, and what advantages and disadvantages are associated with this.

  • In the reserved seat and the compartment, as probably many already know, the odd numbers are the lower seats, and the even ones are the upper ones.
  • Windows in emergency compartments (3 and 6, both in compartment carriages and in reserved seats) do not open.
  • The unpleasant side top seat near the toilet is at number 38.
  • In the reserved seat, the top 36th place is the place where there is a partition, which reduces the shelf, there is still no handrail for climbing up.
  • Also in the reserved seat seats 1,2,35,36 are shorter by 15 cm than all the others.
  • Places numbered 29-31 are the most convenient, as they are close to the toilet, but there is no unpleasant smell, and much fewer people pass by there.

How to choose the right carriage and seat on the train?

If you buy a ticket at the box office, you can discuss with the cashier your preferences regarding the selection of a seat in the carriage. In the same case, if you buy a ticket on the website, you will have to make a choice yourself. To do this, you must first familiarize yourself with some of the nuances of various places. Otherwise, having encountered them during the trip, you will have to endure inconveniences that could have been avoided.

Choosing a car

First, you need to familiarize yourself with the types of cars and classes of service in order to have an idea of what level of comfort you will meet during your trip.

Soft (M), Lux (L), Compartment (K), Recreational (P), With seating (S).

Individual air conditioning, shower and toilet are provided only in a soft carriage. In all the others, the air conditioner is shared, there is no shower, there are two toilets in the carriage.

In a soft carriage and a luxury car, there are 2 berths per compartment, and in the compartment - 4.

In addition to the type of carriage, it is important to consider the service classes. There are quite a few of them, and they differ in the presence and diet (hot / cold), the category of bed linen equipment, the presence / absence and configuration of sanitary and hygienic kits, and the provision of the press. Moreover, different shipping companies use different designations for service classes, and the same class by designation may have different service fillings.

Branded trains consist of carriages of new modifications, and include their different types, so you can choose the right option without any problems.

But in double-decker car you can find much more inconvenience than it might seem at first glance. The number of seats has doubled in comparison with the one-story carriage, and the number of conductors is the same (waiting for tea longer, boarding the train as well), there is no third upper shelf in the compartment and there is nowhere to put things. Instead of titanium - an ordinary electric kettle. There are only 3 toilets, a staircase, which is not easy for the elderly to climb with luggage, and a low ceiling on the second floor.

Seat selection

Scheme of a standard Russian carriage

In standard Russian carriages of compartments and reserved seats, the rule applies: the lower seats are odd, the upper ones are even.

Side seats in the reserved seat start from 37. Above it - 38, which are located directly at the toilet. The last upper non-side seat (36) cannot be called convenient either, since there is a toilet behind the wall, and from all other places from which, excuse me, the legs hang down, it differs by the presence of a partition and the absence of a footboard for climbing.

It may not be pleasant to be near the conductor's compartment either. The compartments provided for luggage may be occupied by coal, blankets and other things. Arguing with a guide about this hardly makes sense for your calm and comfortable stay on the road. It is better to choose a different place in advance.

Tall passengers should take into account that in the reserved seat seats 1, 2, 35, 36 are 15 centimeters shorter than the rest.

Layout of seats in an international carriage

There is one fairly common misconception about carriages with seating. These wagons are often confused with general ones. There is no air conditioning in the common carriage, and there are 3 passengers sitting on the shelf. On the other hand, carriages with seating are very comfortable. The arrangement of the seats is like placing them on a bus. The seats are soft, they can be reclined to take a nap.

In carriages with seats, despite the many different modifications, the “odd window” principle remains unchanged. Therefore, if you are a fan of stretching and cannot sit still for a long time, it is better to buy an even seat, it is closer to the aisle.

Even with the current problems, you can always find the option that is most suitable for you. By ditching an awkward location, you can maintain good spirits and create a precedent for the company to pay attention to unclaimed locations and lower prices in the future.

Which seats in the reserved seat are better to take: which are the sockets, which seat on the train is lower and which window does not open in the reserved seat car

Characteristics of reserved seat seats: numbering, amenities

The reserved seat takes the third place in terms of comfort, behind the coupe and SV. One such carriage is designed for 54 passengers, each of which has an individual shelf. It can be top, bottom or side - each category has 18 seats. A section of 2 upper and 2 lower seats forms a separate compartment that does not have a door. Side shelves are located opposite each such opening.

Advice. Remember that the lower shelves are assigned odd numbers (1,3,5, etc.), the upper ones are even (2,4,6, etc.). Seats 37 to 54 are side seats.

It should be borne in mind that some reserved seat seats have features:

  1. Each carriage has a so-called. "Emergency" sections, the windows in which cannot be opened. There are seats from 9 to 12 and from 21 to 24, as well as 43, 44, 49, 50. And if in a compartment carriage, where in similar rooms (compartments No. 3 and No. 6) exactly the same closed windows are provided, but you can use air conditioning, there is no such service in the reserved seat.
  2. To have constant access to the outlet, without asking the conductor, you need to choose the 2nd or penultimate section of the reserved seat car. These are places 5-8, 29-31, as well as 39, 40, 51 and 52.
  3. Each reserved seat has 4 shelves, which are shorter than the others by about 15 cm. These are places under No. 1, 2, 35, 36.
  4. Place 36 is considered one of the most unfortunate for a number of reasons. Firstly, there is a toilet behind the wall, and secondly, a partition is installed there, against which the passenger's legs rest (in other cases, they protrude into the passage). In addition, this is the upper place, but there is no partition that helps to climb.
  5. The luggage compartments of the sections that are in the immediate vicinity of the conductors may be filled with charcoal or blankets. In the "risk zone" the first places (1-4), as well as lateral 53 and 54.

You can determine whether your place will be the bottom or the top by its number

It is quite logical that the choice of the most convenient seat depends on the personal preferences of each passenger. For example, someone loves to ride only on the lower shelves. In particular, these seats are convenient for the elderly, obese passengers, mothers with young children, who occupy one shelf for two. Some people buy tickets for these seats, fearing that during a sudden deceleration of the train, they could fall from the top shelf. In addition, it is always available to use the table - behind the scenes it is passengers from the lower seats who most often consider it “theirs”. However, you still have to yield to the neighbors from above: you may be asked to move over to have a snack or just sit.

It is more comfortable for another category of people to ride upstairs: none of the fellow travelers will encroach on these places. You can calmly lie down, turn away to the wall, read or take a nap. In addition, such places are slightly cheaper than the lower ones. Some passengers prefer the top bunk when traveling alone, traveling by night train, or short distances.

Advice. If a neighbor from the lower shelf does not let you in to the table or simply does not allow you to sit in your place, contact the conductor. In case of emergency, call the train master.

There is no clause in the transportation rules that forces passengers to "share" the bottom shelf, but at the same time there is a principle that limits each person in the abuse of their rights. In any case, try to negotiate peacefully.

Side seats are considered by many passengers to be the most uncomfortable. If in the section it is somehow possible to organize personal space, then here the person is located practically in the corridor, where someone is constantly walking. However, some find advantages here too. For example, a table is not designed for 4 people, but only for two. True, in this case, the owner of the lower side seat will have to transform his shelf so that the neighbor can have lunch.

This is interesting ... How much baggage can one passenger take on the plane?
Side seat transforms into a table

If you are still hesitant about which seats to prefer, the reviews and recommendations of passengers will help you decide:

  • seats 35-38 are located next to the toilet, so if you are worried that an unpleasant smell will ruin your trip, do not take tickets for them;
  • it is quite comfortable to ride in the section located not far from the conductor: the toilet is not far away, and there is no smell, and tea can be arranged at any time (buy or make it yourself - titanium is also close for heating water);
  • in winter, it is better to take seats closer to the center of the carriage, since at each stop passengers will come and go, letting in the cold;
  • the seats in the middle are also good for those who do not like it when people scurry past: to the toilet or to the vestibule to smoke;
  • places from 29 to 31 are located near the toilet, but the smell is not felt here. But you can always see if there is a line of people who want to wash. It is also convenient if you need to take out a baby potty (so as not to carry it along the entire corridor);
  • if you are traveling together, it is convenient to occupy the upper and lower bunk in one compartment or even on the side. Then strangers will not encroach on your places.

Advice. If you are afraid of falling off the shelf when the train is braking, take tickets for the seats that are closer to the head carriage.

Platzkart car: video

Traveling in a reserved seat train is one of the most common modes of transportation for Russians. Note that the reserved seat train is a feature of Russian railways... And unlike the same compartment, reserved seat seats are good and not very good. Experienced travelers know a lot about reserved seat trains and choose seats based on personal experience... However, for those who do not know what are the best seats in a reserved seat carriage this article was written.

Platzkart carriage plan - diagram of seats in a platzkart carriage

The best places according to this scheme are places 1, 2, 3, 4 (marked in light green). They are the best for the following reasons:

Places 53 and 54 are almost always inaccessible for sale - apparently, this is some kind of reserve. At least not them, most often the blanket warehouse is located. This means that those who travel in the first section do not have side neighbors - almost a compartment. In addition, the conductor's compartment is located very nearby, which not only speaks of convenience, but also that the nearby toilet will be clean or at least odorless. In addition, there is a boiler with hot water nearby, which is especially useful when preparing tea and food, as there is less risk of spilling something. There is also a window next to the boiler where you can look and stretch your legs. In the end, you can leave the first section earlier and carry things closest. In general, places 1, 2, 3 and 4 are best places in a reserved seat carriage... That is why they are quite often busy, because they are bought primarily by experienced travelers on reserved seat trains.

The second place is taken by places: from 5 to 32 inclusive. These are all not side seats, except for the first and last section. These are just good reserved seats. They are marked in yellow on the diagram.

The third place is shared by non-side seats near the toilet (33, 34, 35, 36) and “sides” not near the toilet (from 39 to 52 inclusive). This is a question of choice, because the "sides" have their drawbacks, and the places in the last section have their own.

What's wrong with the side seats:

  • The sleeping place and the eating place are one and the same place, since the lower sleeping place is transformed into a table. This is inconvenient, especially if strangers are riding on the top and bottom shelves.
  • Passers-by constantly touch the "side" of the passenger, which does not allow him to sleep comfortably. If there are children on the train, they also often touch, not allowing them to relax.
  • In the case of passengers resting on the sidewalls, the legs will necessarily be close to the face of the one who is located on the sidewall, which may not allow falling asleep or simply rest.
  • The limited length of the berth does not allow people of large stature to stretch out and sleep peacefully

Non-side seats near the toilet (33, 34, 35, 36) also have their disadvantages, which are primarily associated with the presence of a toilet:

  • the door to the toilet constantly opens and closes, this does not allow not only rest, but also often just fall asleep
  • the smell that comes from the toilet makes it impossible to eat

Which option is worse is everyone's personal choice.

By far the worst option is the side seats at the toilet (37th and 38th seats). They combine the disadvantages of both the "sides" and the places near the toilet. Such places are bought last.

Separately, it is worth talking about the upper and lower places. There is no unequivocal opinion here. Let's list the pros and cons of the top and bottom seats.

  • The upper seats allow you to rest and sleep without being distracted by neighbors' lunch breaks. Those who ride in the lower seats should give way to those who want to eat from the upper shelves.
  • Luggage can be stowed under the lower seats without fear for its safety. Not all can reach the third shelf and it is really hard to put heavy things there. However, it so happens that the things of both passengers are placed in the lower shelf.
  • It is safer for children to sleep in the lower places, as they will not fall from there. On the upper seats in the carriages, special fences are made to prevent falls.
  • Climbing the top shelf can be quite difficult, especially for older people and women. But children like to sleep on top more.

Most of all, the upper seats are preferred by men who want to sleep or just relax, since it is not difficult for men to climb onto the upper shelf, and neighbors do not bother when they want to eat.

When planning to go on the road by train, you should think about which car is better to choose on the train: reserved seat, compartment type, SV or seated. A reserved seat is the most common type of passenger carriages in Russia, however, as in all CIS countries, it consists of 9 compartments with 6 seats in each, for a total of 54 in 1 carriage. Each compartment and side seats have folding tables. There is a passage between the 4 seats of the compartment and 2 side seats. The carriage has 2 toilets, titanium for water heating, 2 vestibules, and a compartment for conductors.

Why is the second-class carriage so popular? The fact is that this is a budget option for a long-distance trip, during which you can relax and sleep. The reserved seat is also called an open sleeping car. The socket is located opposite the toilet, in the second and eighth compartments (numbers 39-40 and 51-52). Usually, there are more people who want to charge their gadgets (during long trips) than the outlets themselves.

Places 1-4

Travel comfort plays a big role. Therefore, it is worth taking seriously what places in the reserved seat are better to take.

Seats 1 to 4 are located near the conductor compartment and toilet. They are classified as "bad". The trip will be accompanied by constant walking of passengers to the toilet, to the carriage conductor, to the exit at intermediate stations, and this will take place around the clock.

Reserved seat scheme

The pluses include the proximity to the exit from the carriage, which is important for travelers with heavy luggage.

Important! Charging laptops, also using tees and extension cords is prohibited.

Places 5-32

From 5 to 32 - the best seats in a reserved seat carriage. These are the shelves in the middle of the compartment carriage.

Note! The windows in the third and sixth compartments cannot be opened. And if there is no air conditioning in such a compartment, then the trip will be a big test, especially in summer.

About side seats

Side seats are in the range from 37 to 54. They also have their own characteristics, knowing which you can confidently decide whether to buy them. Sometimes a ticket for 54 upper side seat is not sold, then it is used for economic purposes.

The disadvantages of "sides" include:

  • Smaller shelf width, which brings significant discomfort to most people and does not provide an opportunity to fully relax while lying upright.
  • The downside of the lower side seats is their design, since the table is folded out from the middle of the seat. To eat at the table, the passenger on top will have to disturb the downstairs neighbor if he is resting. This often leads to disputes and discontent on both sides.
  • The outboard seats are considered "walk-through". It is almost impossible to position your legs conveniently, because the legs of a neighbor are probably already under the table, and people walking back and forth interfere with turning in the direction of the aisle.

Among the advantages of sidewalls, one can note their availability: they often remain on sale in almost any direction of the train. And people of not tall stature will be able to easily accommodate themselves on the "second floor" without worrying that their feet will hurt people passing by.

Sidewalls

A side trip shouldn't be uncomfortable if the trip is short.

If two people you know well are traveling, it is ideal to buy tickets for the upper and lower side reserved seats.

Restroom Seats (33 to 36)

Tickets with numbers 33-36 can be safely attributed to "inconvenient". Their disadvantage lies in their location near the toilet, which can be accompanied by very unpleasant odors, constant slamming of the door and a draft. These seats are redeemed by passengers very reluctantly, as well as side ones.

Advantages and disadvantages of upper and lower shelves

Another important point in order to choose the most comfortable seats in a reserved seat carriage is to know the features of the upper and lower shelves.

The advantages of the upper shelves are that hardly anyone will bother them, at any time of the day you can sit comfortably and read a book, sleep or watch your favorite movie.

The disadvantage can be called its inconvenience for the elderly, with children, overweight. Climbing up is not an easy task for them. The category of people who avoid upper seats also includes passengers who are afraid of falling while sleeping. In addition, in order to eat at the table, you often have to bother your neighbor from the bottom shelf.

Upper shelves

It can be quite stuffy in the upper seats, especially if there is insufficient ventilation in the carriage, when the summer is hot outside. To take your luggage, if it is in a specially designated compartment under the lower shelf, you will have to disturb people.

The advantage of the bottom shelf is that you don't have to climb onto it. This is the main plus. At the bottom it is convenient to both sit and lie. You can look out the window, it will pleasantly defuse the atmosphere on the way. To eat, you don't have to ask anyone to vacate the seat at the table.

There are few shortcomings, but they are. It is almost impossible to sleep in the daytime. The upstairs neighbor will often go downstairs, for example, to go to the toilet, sit, eat. Since the passenger of the upper bunk has every right to take a sitting place at the bottom during the daytime, this will not allow the passenger who is located below to retire in his own thoughts. From time to time you will have to watch the feet of the neighbor from above, who "groaning" crawls into his two-story apartment.

Note! You need to choose the tickets that are suitable for yourself in advance, since the "good" ones are sold out first.

Features of the trip for a specific category of passengers

Before deciding which seats are better to take on a reserved seat train, you need to select a passenger category:

  • pregnant women;
  • aged people;
  • suffering from diseases of the musculoskeletal system, vestibular apparatus;
  • children.

Due to their physiological characteristics, such people need to buy comfortable places in advance, preferably lower ones. Woman in position or old man they are unlikely to be able to climb onto the upper seat without assistance, but get off it all the more. The child can simply fall off the top shelf. Passengers with children warn their children - we are going in a reserved seat, reminiscent of the safety and behavior rules on trains.

With various diseases, accompanied by impaired movement and coordination, a trip on the second floor can become quite traumatic. In such cases, it is better to choose seats on the lower shelves and not far from the toilet, or to use the Lastochka train of Russian Railways with seated carriages.

Traveling in a reserved seat can be pleasant and comfortable if you take care of it in advance, buy the most convenient seats for yourself, based on some of the above features.
