The best sandy beaches in Corfu. The best sandy beaches of Corfu Where is the best beach holiday in Corfu

Probably, in every city, and even more so if we are talking about a resort, there are their own "signature" places. It is by these sights that you can guess the place and make your impression of it. There are several such places on Corfu (or the island of Kerkyra, as the Greeks themselves call it). But the main calling card of this place is gorgeous beaches. In this article, you will discover the best beaches of Corfu for yourself.

Pebble beaches

For your convenience, we have divided the main beaches of Corfu into two categories: pebble and sand. Some beaches are pebbly and sandy, this will be discussed separately in the description.

Magnificent Paleokastritsa

If you decide to search the Internet for photos of the beaches of Corfu, the first place will probably be pictures of Cape Paleokastritsa. Many consider this cape the most colorful attraction of the island and strive to go there.

From the capital of the island of Kerkyra to Paleokastritsa you can get on the Green Bus (this is the name of the bus), a ticket costs a few euros. The journey will take about thirty minutes. Another way to admire the cape is to book a tour of Corfu, not a single tourist group passes by. However, in this case, it is unlikely that you will be able to plunge into the warm sea.

If you already go to the beach, then by all means take a mask and fins with you, because the water is the cleanest, and the underwater world is rich. Everything around is fragrant with the aromas of the Mediterranean.

Buses come straight to the central beach, there is also a pier. On it, locals offer a ride on a yacht or boat through the grottoes and caves. It seems that there are too many foreign tourists, but most do not make noise and observe the harmony of this place. Here you will find incredibly picturesque bays. In Paleokastritsa - the best beaches of Corfu, on the map you can find a city in the western part of the island.

Here the sand is mixed with pebbles. The entrance to the water is purely sandy, so special shoes are not needed. Be prepared that the June water will be cold, it is better to swim later. But at any time of the year, the turquoise transparent sea will not leave you indifferent!

Barbati - trendy beach

Barbati is a very clean pebble beach with clear water. From the shore you can see Albania, and if you sail away, a magnificent view of Mount Pantokrator will open. Everyone can rent sun loungers and umbrellas (there are always enough of them, the trestle beds are placed in several rows). There are places to eat on Barbati. You will find here both a shower and a restroom. Despite all the amenities, the place is not crowded. The only exceptions are weekends, when the Greeks also want to relax. If you get tired of the heat, you can walk along the olive grove that separates the coastline from residential complexes.

In general, Barbati is a “glamorous village”, the best place for parties where the cream of Greek society comes to throw off the burden of fatigue. And if you are looking for beaches on the island of Corfu where you can also hang out, then you are here! Clubs are within walking distance, where you can get a beautiful tan and cool off with a delicious cocktail. If you love music, fun, and the smell of coffee in the air, then you're in the right place.

Modern Agios Gordios

Agios Gordios is comfortably located in the most beautiful bay of Corfu, which you can immediately recognize from the photo. Typical features of the beach are the characteristic rocky terrain and a small rock that seems to be looking out of the sea. This is the western coast of the island, and is traditionally considered European. There are very few Slavs in the village and by the sea.

Agios Gordios is civilized, there are many places to eat. There are taverns with delicious national cuisine. Moreover, in many coastal restaurants and bars, customers are offered free sunbeds. Even if you don't buy anything, the sunbeds are inexpensive. Two sun loungers with an umbrella cost from 5 euros per day.

If you are interested in where in Corfu sandy beaches you will find a partial answer here. Agios Gordios is rather big, three kilometers long. There is sand on the shore, but the entrance to the sea is strewn with small pebbles. There are no sharp drops, the entry is smooth, and deep places start about 15 meters from the shore. If you search, you can stumble upon a wild beach with amazing fine sand not only on the coast, but also in the sea. In general, the place is ideal for relaxing, especially with small children.

Porto Timoni - when the mountains embrace the sea

Porto Timoni is a truly virgin place with lush vegetation and clear sea. In terms of beauty, this is the best beach in Corfu. public transport you won’t be able to get there: only by a rented car, by taxi or on your own two feet. Even if you go by car, on the way to the beach you still have to overcome the descent from the mountain (about a quarter of an hour), and, accordingly, you will have to climb back. We recommend bringing a change with you. But the views of Porto Timoni are worth all the effort. Therefore, when asked about the most beautiful beaches of Corfu, you will surely talk about Porto Timoni.

Before the descent, you can refresh yourself in a cafe, and forward to the gorgeous pebble coast. In order not to get lost, look at the signs and look for the inscription "Double beach" (double beach). In general, the title is not entirely true. In fact, there are three beaches, it’s just that it’s even more difficult to get to the third one than to the first two, so there are usually no people there.

Going to any of them, it is advisable to take a sun umbrella with you, because you will not find shade. The northern beach is windy, the water seems colder. But in the southern Porto Timoni there is no wind at all, so there are a lot of wasps. For those who do not want to climb mountains, there is an option to get to the beach by catamaran or boat.

Bataria - a beach with white stones

Bataria is cozy and clean, but the pebbles on it are large. Trestle beds and umbrellas are paid, almost all are laid out on stones. When entering the water, pebbles can cause trouble: pebbles can injure the legs, especially for babies. It is better to immediately purchase rubber shoes for swimming.

But the views are simply fantastic: azure water contrasts with white stones. Great views of nature! The photos come out great. However, there are also disadvantages.

The beach is small, there are a lot of people during the day. The sun loungers are uncomfortable, the umbrellas are old and sometimes broken. There is no restroom or shower. There is only a cafe where you can visit the toilet. But there are changing cabins on Bataria. But in terms of transport accessibility, there are no questions, there is parking above the beach.

Rovinia - the beauty of the wild

Rovinia beach is a small pebbly and rocky beach. Buses do not go here, but you can easily get there by car, boat (sea taxi) or on foot. Parking is available nearby. White pebbles, blue sea, enticing grottoes. The water is crystal clear, there is no algae, it's a sin not to snorkel and try to catch the fish with your hands! The sea is deep.

A secluded place, but still it will not work to call it paradise. There is dirt and in terms of improvement there is something to complain about. There are no sun loungers and umbrellas. In addition, due to the fact that the beach is wild, there are no buoys and restrictions for boats. Everyone on a motor boat scurries along the coast. Sometimes this creates a danger: people are in the water, and a boat is sailing nearby. You never know how it might end.

Without instructions from the locals, Rovinia beach is difficult to find, because there are no signs. The road to the beach is picturesque in itself, running through olive groves. You can buy food on a small boat that brings snacks and drinks. They sell decent sandwiches, inexpensive beer and cold coffee.

Sandy beaches of Corfu

Those who do not like pebbles, but have chosen Corfu for their vacation, will find good sandy beaches on the island: noisy and secluded, popular and not crowded.

Agios Georgios - a secluded place to relax

This sandy beach is clean and large. There are inclusions of pebbles at the entrance to the water. There are usually few people here.

Employees of hotels, shops and tourist shops do not know Russian words at all. Our compatriots usually rest on the east coast, and we offer tours there.

You can get to Agios Georgios at any time of the day or night by taxi, in about twenty minutes. Corfu is full of serpentines and rocks, so if you have a phobia of heights, you may feel uncomfortable.

The entry into the sea is beautiful, but there can be waves in this part of the island. Although for many this is a plus. Of course, you can’t practice surfing, but you can ride the waves with small children. Dolphins swim by. For vacationers, they sometimes arrange their amazing performance.

The sea is shallow for the next ten meters, then the depth begins. You can always find a fresh water shower in sight to rinse off.

Uncrowded Gardenos

This beach is perfect for getting away from the noise. popular places on the coast of Corfu. Locals and tourists who live nearby rest here. It is not one of those beaches that people go to from the other end of Corfu. Gardenas is huge, completely sandy - sand both on the shore and in the sea. The water is warmer than in Paleokastritsa.

If you go there by car, it is better to take umbrellas and blankets for lying with you. Umbrellas are conveniently stuck in the sand, it will be possible to save on rent. Open space, the wind walks almost always.

There are shops and restaurants in front of the entrance to the beach. There is a shower and changing room. You can see fish and other marine life in the water.

On the beach there is a small and simple restaurant with very affordable prices. You can order takeaway food and enjoy your food while looking at the sea from your lounger.

Mirtiotissa - don't be shy

A stunning beach, one of the best and most picturesque in all of Greece. The main part of Mirtiotissa is given to nudists. Get ready for it. The beach is modest, cozy, with a sandy gentle approach to the sea.

A feature of the beach was its secluded location: you can get here only by a rented car or moped. By the way, in order to go down to the sea, you will have to overcome a sharp descent, and a scooter with a weak motor may then not go upstairs. Umbrellas here are surprisingly free, they are handed out to everyone at the entrance, but you will have to pay for the opportunity to lie on a sun lounger.

This is one of the prettiest resorts in Corfu with sandy beaches. There is a bar with drinks and snacks, and a restaurant along the way. Due to its specificity, tourists from Western Europe and representatives of sexual minorities often come to Mirtiotissa. However, there are many families with children.

Another wonderful beach is Paradise. It means "paradise beach". Tourists love it for its soft sand, convenient access to the sea and clear water. In addition, the beach is very exotic and secluded.

It is important that you cannot go there by land, you will have to get there only by sea.

If you are sailing on a boat, remember that it is forbidden to land on the shore. However, if there are no people on Paradise, an exception can be made.

According to the rules, you need to anchor at a distance of fifty meters and swim like Robinson Crusoe. This means that you won't be able to take anything with you. The best time to moor is early morning. A taxi boat will cost fifteen euros for each passenger, and renting the entire boat for the day will cost about 80 euros. Mooring is convenient, time can be planned as you like.

The left side of Paradise beach is more “civilized” and gentle: there are sun loungers and umbrellas. The right half is deserted, there are large stones in the sea. In general, the beach is long and generally pleasing to the eye, but if you want to explore the coast better, bring shoes for walking on the rocks. Sheer white cliffs, dense greenery, a long narrow strip of coastline - your heart will forever remain here!

Marathias (Marathias)

Wide clean sandy beach with a pleasant entry into the sea. It is easily accessible by car or scooter. There are few tourists here, quiet and comfortable. Of the visitors, most of the Greeks, and almost no Slavs. Clear water with occasional small waves and wind. The depth near the coast is shallow, so Marathias is suitable for both small children and the elderly.

Huge space where you can play beach games or just sunbathe. Almost everyone praises the stunning "golden" sand on Marathias. There are plenty of bars and restaurants here. Relaxing music is often heard. All in all, a fantastic beach for all ages, safe for kids. A sunbed with an umbrella can be rented here for 3.

On the eastern part of Corfu, at the foot of Mount Pantokrator, about 15 km from Kerkyra, there is Barbati beach. If you are tired of a large number of tourists and want to spend time alone, swimming in the clear blue sea and admiring the picturesque views, then you should definitely visit this place. You can get here by taxi, rented car or by regular bus from Kerkyra.

The beach itself is covered with rather large white pebbles, well-hewn water. If you have special rubber slippers, then it is better to take them, so entering the sea will be the most comfortable for you. In its central part there are paid sunbeds and the entire infrastructure. Along the edges, between the rocks, there are small wild areas where you can safely retire. There are many hotels and guest houses located here, which are separated from the beach by luxurious olive trees, so you will not have any problems with accommodation.

7. Dasia

The village of Dassia with the beach of the same name is located in the central zone of the eastern part of Corfu, about 13 km from Kerkyra. The beach itself is covered with golden sand mixed with pebbles. On the shore, you can hide from the hot sun under an umbrella or sit comfortably in the shade of olive trees growing right next to the water. There is a full variety of beach activities: water skiing, boats, a diving center and much more. In the village itself there are many taverns and restaurants with varied cuisine. On the territory of the village there are nightclubs and bars where young people prefer to spend time. The bay itself, surrounded by rocks overgrown with orange and olive trees, makes an indescribable impression.

A small rock sticking out of the sea is the hallmark of this place. Gentle, golden sand and a gentle entrance to the sea will be appreciated by parents with small children. The crystal clear azure sea gently strokes the coastline with little to no disturbance. After enjoying a beach holiday, you can go for a walk around the village itself, where there is a beautiful church. There are many cafes and restaurants, as well as guest houses.

5. Porto Timoni

Porto Timoni beach is located near the village of Afionas on the west coast of Corfu. You can only get here by car, regular buses do not go here. In the village, follow the signs to the Anemos tavern, this is where the road to the beach begins. We want to say right away that the place is wild, so take everything you need with you.

When descending through the olive groves along the path from the village, you will see indescribable beauty views of the turquoise, clear sea. A narrow strip of land separates the two beaches from each other. One of the features of this place is that each beach has a different water temperature and you yourself choose whether to cool off or take a dip in warmer water. We recommend that you linger in this place until sunset in order to admire the crimson sun over the horizon with admiration.

4. Battery (Bataria)

Near locality Kassiopi, about 38 km from Kerkyra, is a small, but very beautiful and cozy beach. Here the purest azure water, there are sun loungers with umbrellas, cabanas and cafes. In the western part of Corfu, in the town of Peroulades, there is a beautiful but very narrow beach surrounded by tall cliffs. This place is considered one of the most beautiful on the island. The path leading to it is replaced by a staircase that rests on the sandy beach itself. There is really little space here, but swimming under the overhanging rocks really leaves a lasting impression. Definitely recommend visiting this place.

At the southeastern foot of Cape St. George in the Mirtiotissa area, one of the most beautiful beaches of the island is located. This small beach, nestled among massive rocks, is covered with golden sand. The sea here is crystal clear, beautiful azure color. To get to it, you will need to overcome the descent on foot (in time, about 20 minutes). 1. Paleokastritsa

Palaiokastritsa beach is truly a piece of paradise on the western side of Corfu. It is located in the village of the same name. You can get here both by car and by bus. Cliffs covered with emerald vegetation, turquoise sea, like on the best beaches of the Indian Ocean, gentle golden sand, all this together creates an indescribable picture in its beauty.

The rocky areas of the coast have become an ideal place for diving. The infrastructure here is well developed, there is everything you need. • Cosmetics for women will be rather superfluous, as they can “float”. A matting cream will be more practical.

    • Sunscreen, the protection level of which is 30-35 units, will also come in handy before going to the beach.

    • Family care cosmetics (creams, gels, scrubs, deodorants) can be omitted - you can buy them on the island. All at reasonable prices and excellent quality from natural ingredients, in particular from olive oil. Only shampoo or balm to soften hair can come in handy, as the water on the island is hard.

    • There are a lot of mosquitoes on the island, it will be good to stock up on insect repellents. Although, as a local resident said: “Corfu has a humid subtropical climate, because of this there are a lot of mosquitoes. Funds from them can be bought on the spot or take with you. There are no midges on the island. But in September, wasps already appear during the grape harvest.”

What to take to Corfu for a child? The set of things for children is the same as for any other vacation at sea. Warm clothes, sunscreen and, of course, swimming gear can come in handy.

Remember that you should not take a lot of luggage to Corfu. Thus, you can restrict your movement. After all, in addition to the beautiful beaches on the island, there are a lot of architectural and natural attractions.

Even if you are not going to make excursions, believe that when you arrive at the place, you will certainly have such a desire.

The best beaches of Corfu are located mainly on its western side. Among them - Agios Gordios, Paleokastritsa and Glyfada. With clear waters, surrounded by lush greenery, the beaches of Corfu attract many tourists every summer. Almost all of them are sandy, although there are several pebble areas among them. It is believed that the water on the west coast is colder than on the east.

The most famous beaches in Corfu

Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is perhaps the most famous picturesque village of Corfu, 25 km northwest of Kerkyra. "Paleokastritsa" in literal translation means "Old Fortress". Sources claim that the fortress really stood on a rocky mountain, where the monastery of the Virgin is now located.

The village has six sandy and pebbly beaches surrounded by olive groves, which are scattered throughout the area. The water here is very cold, and the underwater world is very interesting. There are small boats that go to isolated beaches - small coves with turquoise water and numerous caves. The main beach of Paleokastritsa is quite small, but very famous for its cold waters and amazing views. Considered one of the best beaches in the Greek islands and surrounded by many bars and taverns, it is rarely quiet during the day.

Agios Gordios

The heavenly bay of Agios Gordios is one of the largest bays in the western part of the island, easily accessible by bus, taxi or private car. The holiday village is located in a beautiful bay surrounded by mountains, olive groves and vineyards. The picturesque long sandy beach is fully equipped and offers opportunities for all kinds of water sports. The beach is always crowded and noisy - thanks to the shallow and warm water off the coast, many families with small children rest here. Don't forget to take a photo with the local symbol, Ortholithi, a massive rock rising out of the water at the southern end of the bay.

Glyfada

Glyfada is a picturesque green bay where the blue sky meets the emerald sea. This is one of the most popular beaches of the island, it is located 16 km west of Kerkyra and next to the bay of Agios Gordios. Glyfada has been awarded the Blue Flag more than once for its crystal clear sea. A long strip of soft golden sand is surrounded by mighty rocks. The beach has sun loungers and umbrellas, shops and taverns. Glyfada attracts mainly young people, it is noisy and fun here. Also, the beach is perfect for families with small children, as there are shallow waters, clear water and a fairly calm sea. Glyfada is one of the finest examples of the island's sandy beaches and an excellent choice in close proximity to Corfu's capital. In addition, a horse riding club, a golf course and Aqualand water park are just 4 km away.

Mirtiotissa

Mirtiotissa is a small sandy beach on the west coast of Corfu. English writer Lawrence Durrell called it the most beautiful beach in the world. Mirtiotissa today is one of the most popular places on the island of Corfu, although not so long ago only a select few knew about it. The beach owes its name to a beautiful monastery that stands on a mountainside, high above the sea. In fact, there are three miniature beaches nestled right under the steep cliffs. The left one, with golden sand, just over 20 m in diameter, is the most famous nudist beach on the island.

Nissaki

Nissaki is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu. A beautiful sandy beach surrounded by rocks, located between the villages of Barbati and Kassiopi, 22 km north of Corfu. This small beach, which is located away from the road, has only a few tourist facilities. Nissaki Bay is protected from strong winds, and the entrance to the sea is very gentle. The water is clean, so snorkelers can admire the underwater inhabitants to their heart's content. Near the beach there is a small picturesque port where fishing boats moor. The beach is surrounded by good tavernas serving fresh seafood and local delicacies.

Issos

Golden sand and azure sea - this is how Issos beach, located 35 km south of Kerkyra, can be characterized. The endless coastline with unique sand dunes and crystal clear waters is the perfect place for a family vacation. The rich local flora divides the shore by Lake Korission, a unique ecosystem of the island. On its banks you can meet waterfowl, ibises and herons, as well as turtles, otters and other living creatures. The beach is well equipped, there are many tourist facilities along the coast, there is also a lifeguard tower and a water sports center. There are strong winds on Issos - this is the best place for windsurfing and kitesurfing on the island. Lush forests and a lake provide a unique setting for hiking, while high sand dunes offer beautiful sunset views.

Love channel

The village of Sidari, located 36 km from the capital of the island, is known as one of the best tourist resorts in Corfu. Nearby, a little to the west, is the famous "Canal of Love" ("Canal d'Amour"). This is a tunnel compressed by rocks from two sides. According to tradition, couples who swim through it together will live happily ever after, and those who have not yet found their soul mate will soon find their soul mate. Near the canal, there are beaches with golden sand and shallow waters, which are great for families with children.

Logas Peroulades

Logas Peroulades is a narrow strip of sand surrounded by the highest cliffs on the island. It is located 36 km northwest of Corfu town and is considered to be one of the most beautiful places on the island. This beach is famous for its sheer vertical cliffs and beautiful azure sea. By the way, at high tide you will not find the beach itself, the water comes close to the shore, respectively, there are no sunbeds and umbrellas here either. But the beauty that you will see is definitely worth a visit to this beautiful place. A stone staircase leads to the beach, and at the top there are atmospheric taverns and a bar where you can enjoy the surrounding views and a breathtaking sunset over a glass of frappe. Also at the top there is an unusual observation deck with a glass bottom, hanging right over the cliff - here you can take gorgeous photos.

Kavos

Kavos is located in the southern part of Corfu. There are many young people who hang out on the beach from early morning until late at night. Located about 50 km south of Kerkyra, Kavos is considered one of the most visited and active beaches on the island. The three-kilometer sandy beach is well equipped, there are umbrellas, sun loungers, showers. The water here is clean, the strip of shallow water is long. There are many snack bars, taverns, beach bars, hotels and shops around. With the onset of dusk, the beach turns into the main party of the island - nightclubs and establishments are open here until early morning.

Dasia

Dassia is a popular resort located between Kerkyra and the village of Ipsos, 13 km from the capital. Directly opposite the village is a magnificent narrow beach that stretches for a couple of kilometers. It consists of sand and pebbles with two rows of sunbeds and umbrellas for those who want to enjoy a comfortable sunbathing, while the trees at the back of the beach provide natural shade. The beach offers a beautiful view of the Albanian coast, the surrounding islands and the bewitching Pantokrator Monastery. This beach is quite lively and developed, for small boat trips you can rent boats - a ride along the coast, you will discover small bays that are ideal for complete privacy.

Today I will talk about the features of a holiday on my favorite Greek island - Corfu. I have been to several islands of this wonderful country, but the island of Corfu has firmly taken the first place in my heart.

From skepticism to love

We rested on the island of Corfu in early September. I was driving with a skeptical attitude - this place was painfully praised, even suspicions creep in, but Corfu is a truly magical place, this is an island unlike any other in Greece. It has a strong Italian influence, especially in the cuisine and architecture. And this is the only Greek island where you can see the Adriatic Sea. The second sea in Corfu is the Ionian. In principle, the features of the island are such that in the morning you can swim in the Ionian Sea, and in the afternoon - in the Adriatic.

Vegetation and weather.

Corfu is very green. Compared to the islands of the Aegean region, it is just a jungle. But this lush vegetation has one caveat - it often rains and thunderstorms occur in Corfu. They are not protracted, but nevertheless the temperature of air and water can be lowered. It is better to go here in July, August and the very beginning of September. Later there is a risk of getting into frequent rains. Yes, there are a lot of mosquitoes on the island in the evening, be sure to stock up on funds from them.

The beaches of Corfu

The beaches in Corfu are the most diverse - sandy, pebbly, mixed. Everyone will find something to their taste. There are long and long, there are small coves. I will talk about the main beaches below in the review.

North coast of Corfu

In the north of Corfu - the Ionian Sea and sandy beaches. There are also beautiful sunsets here. The longest sandy beach in the north of Corfu - Acharavi beach. We just stopped there. The sea in this place is warm. The beach is comfortable, although sometimes it fills with a wave of pebbles and it will be inconvenient for small children to go into the sea (such a dip near the coast is formed, and then again a flat sandy bottom). Adults - no problem.

Along the entire beach there are many hotels, both large and small. It's a matter of taste - what to choose. A feature of hotels in Corfu is that here even three rubles are very often on the first line. This is due to the peculiarities of the structure of the island - it is elongated and there is a mountainous area in the middle, so the hotels are pressed to the shore. Not all, of course, but most.

Another sandy beach in the north of the island - Agios Spyridonus. Saint Spyridon is the patron saint of Corfu. On this beach there is a chapel dedicated to him. The beach itself is in a bay, very picturesque and comfortable.

Also in the north of Corfu is the famous channel of love. This place Sidari. The place is generally quite calm, the beaches are sandy, but very compact. There are a lot of people on the beaches (since there are few beaches themselves). Hotels have both small apartments and large ones, but large ones are located away from the coast. For example, there is Cyprotel Panorama VIllage, which I considered as an option for myself, but abandoned this idea because of a child who would find it difficult to go to the beach.

In general, the coast in the area Sidari very picturesque because of the folded rocks. It seems to me that living here on the coast in apartments would be a good option.

West coast of Corfu

The west of Corfu is the Adriatic Sea. It is colder than the Ionian and there are mostly pebble beaches. The water near the clearest, and when viewed from above - inky blue. Here is lush and picturesque vegetation. In the west of Corfu is the famous Paleokastritsa.

Not far from Paleokastritsa there is a castle Angelokastro. A stone staircase leads to it, and magnificent views of Paleokastritsa and the Adriatic open from above.

Down the west coast there are two wonderful beaches - Glyfada beach and the beach Agios Georgios (Agios Georgios). Both are wonderful. Sand, wide coastline. On the beach of Agios Georgios at the very end there are picturesque cliffs.

This is Glyfada beach:

This is the beach of Agios Georgios:

East coast of Corfu

On the eastern side of the island of Corfu is the capital - the city of Kerkyra. Be sure to visit the old town and the sea fortress, they are very atmospheric. Old city reminiscent of old Italian films. Narrow streets, shutters, clothesline, cages with canaries...

In Corfu there is a Rue Liston, built on the model of the Parisian Rue Rivoli.

The temple of St. Spyridon is popular with tourists. The relics of the patron saint of the island of Corfu are kept there. If you travel by car, there is ample free parking along the harbor. There are many cars on it, but if you wish, you can find a place.

The sea on the eastern side of Corfu is Ionian, very warm. This is the strait between mainland Greece and the island. There are hotels for every taste, I will write below about those hotels that I considered and in which our friends were.

Not far from Kerkyra is an architectural monument - Achillion palace. Empress Sisi lived there. The palace is small but pretty, and around it is a well-groomed garden. Most of all I remember the patio with Greek statues and the giant statue of Achilles.

Northeast coast of Corfu

The northeast of Corfu is a mountainous area, since it is here that Mount Pantakrator is located. It has a small monastery. Climbing a mountain by car is absolutely realistic, the main thing is that there is no fog, it interferes with a comfortable ride along serpentines. The mountains are very beautiful, quiet and easy to breathe.

And along the northeast coast of Corfu, there are hotels and villas of celebrities. This is the most respectable area of the island. Somewhere here, Brad Pitt's villa is also lost.

One of the coves in the northeast:

In the same part of the island is the former capital of the island - the fishing town of Kassiopi. It has the freshest and most delicious fish.

On the south We didn’t get to the islands, but according to local stories, there are wide sandy beaches and strong waves. Surfers go there.

Roads and car rental

You can rent a car in Corfu. It is better to do this not in a hotel (prices will be inflated), but in rental offices. Keep in mind that problems with punctured wheels and broken windows are not included in any insurance. On the primer, insurance also does not work. The roads in Corfu are difficult, in some places there are quite steep serpentines (not for beginners driving), and in some villages the streets are so narrow that two cars simply cannot pass.

Kitchen in Corfu, Greek, but with a strong Italian influence. Delicious pizzas are cooked in wood-fired ovens. The signature drink in Corfu is kumquat liqueur. It's so orange and like cough syrup.

Acharavi Beach HOTEL. We stopped here. 3-star hotel, located on the 1st line from the beach, there are both standard and studio rooms (with a kitchen). The food is very decent, although not a very large selection. For dinner, 2-3 hot dishes, appetizers, salads, desserts. Everything is delicious. There is a beach bar with panoramic windows and a good selection of cocktails. 2 swimming pools - adult and children. The rooms are small but quite comfortable. The only thing did not like- lazy maids (poorly cleaned) and a cot (not a bed) for a child for extra. place.

HOTEL Cyprotel Panorama VIllage(3 stars) in Sidari. A good option if you are ready to walk to the beach for 10-15 minutes (downhill there, uphill back). The beach is sandy, good for children - long shallow. In general, I liked Sidari, it is quite calm and picturesque here.

HOTEL Corfu Maris in the town of Benitses. Pay attention to this option. This is a small hotel, it has practically no territory. But it stands right by the sea, it has its own beach, all rooms with sea views and the hostess is Russian (married to a Greek). Places are sold out instantly. The hotel is quite budget friendly. Chefs are very praised and, which is rare for Greece, there is porridge for breakfast (you feel a Russian hostess). Of the minuses - on the one hand the hotel is the sea, and on the other - the road and quite busy. But if you do not fight the noise of cars, you can safely go here. Another plus of this place is that it is near the airport, it is quick and convenient to get there. I wanted to get here, but I didn’t have time - all the rooms were sold out.

HOTEL Messonghi Beach Resort (3 stars). This is where our friends stayed. This a good place for holidays with children. Small beach, warm sea, children's mini-club, slides, swimming pool, animation.
With numbers - as lucky. There are new ones, and there are old ones. They are very scolded and you can go to swear at the beginning of your vacation about resettlement to normal conditions. The rest of the hotel is good. There are always a lot of people in it, but if this does not scare you, then choose it.

HOTELS Louis

And one good piece of advice to you. Beware of hotels in the Luis system, for some reason they do not like Russians. I lived at the Louis Hotel on the island of Zakynthos and it was not the best experience. The problem is that for some reason Russians are en masse settled in the worst rooms. In Corfu, my friends got into history. There are two or even three Louis hotels in Corfu. One of them is located on the chic Glyfada beach, the other is next to Kerkyra. Our friends who bought rooms in Louis, which is on the beach, were sent to the one in the city, citing the lack of free rooms. And this is when booking through a tour operator and much in advance. As a result, instead of the sea there was a pool, as well as scandals and a ruined vacation.

What else is good about the island of Corfu - from here they are taken to the mainland to the eighth wonder of the world - Meteora. The tour takes a whole day, but the spectacle is worth it.

If there are questions, I will be happy to answer them.

Happy travels and holidays!
