Airbnb rentals reviews. Reviews about AirBnB. What happened to AirBnB and why Airbnb renting has become unprofitable Rent a house rnb

AirBnb is the premier rental service that makes it easy and safe to rent apartments and houses around the world. On the site, homeowners post advertisements for the delivery of housing, and those people who need it, rent it. It's simple. All ads are posted with a description, photos, a list of what is and what is not in the apartment. Moreover, Airbnb is not limited to renting apartments; on the service you can find excellent houses on the ocean, rooms, yachts and even medieval castles.

Renting a home on Airbnb goes through several stages:

  1. Direct search for housing
  2. Correspondence with the owner, in which you can find out everything to the smallest details
  3. Payment
  4. Arrival and check-in
  5. After living, you can leave a review about the accommodation (this is optional)

Renting an apartment on Airbnb is no different than renting a house, a private room, or a yacht. The process is the same. The service itself has proven itself on the positive side, it has been working all over the world for many years and its popularity is growing every year, of which there are only numerous, moreover, it is fully translated into Russian, so knowledge of a foreign language is not necessary. Compared to hotels, booking airbnb apartments is on average 2-3 times cheaper than a room in a three-star hotel. And if you are eating with your family or with friends, then Airbnb is what you need, because hotel rooms are usually designed for 2 people, and you have to book several rooms at once to fit everything (especially for groups of friends of 4-8 people ), and by renting an apartment on Airbnb, you can all stay together.

Why you need to rent a house on AirBnb:

  • You will see the real condition of housing from numerous photographs
  • You are guaranteed the security of your lease, i.e. You will not be "thrown", all home owners are checked by the service.
  • You can find out reliable information about housing from reviews that are written by people who have already lived there.
  • Each ad contains a list of available devices (Wi-Fi, washing machine, TV, air conditioning, etc.).
  • You can set your filters by price, type of accommodation, facilities, etc., which will allow you to find exactly the property you want.
  • The site is very easy to use, it is translated into Russian.
  • The site has received thousands of positive reviews from travelers around the world.

Finding the right place to live on Airbnb

Knowing some of the features of the service, you can find airbnb apartments at the lowest prices and with a high level of comfort. Often newcomers do not know these "rules for a good search" and find not the most comfortable housing. For those newbies, here are some tips for booking an airbnb apartment.

  • Read accommodation reviews carefully... Reviews were written by those who have already lived in this apartment / house / room, so they reflect the real situation. Choose a property for which more than 5 positive reviews have been left.
  • Prefer housing with verified photos... Photos of some apartments are tagged with the "Confirmed Photos" tag. This means that the landlord provided comprehensive information, professional Airbnb photographers came to him and personally photographed the rooms.
  • Ask the landlord for all the details... Do not hesitate, if you want to know what speed the Wi-Fi has, how long to walk to the city center, whether the windows overlook the sunny side, what pattern is the rug in front of the entrance - feel free to write to the owner, he will be happy to answer all your questions.
  • Better to book with a host with a verified profile... Each host has their own profile on Airbnb, please review it before booking, if the profile is not verified, then it is better to find another accommodation option.

Airbnb vs Hotel Comparison

Is Airbnb Safe

Don't worry, it is absolutely safe to rent an apartment abroad on airbnb. The service is the guarantor of the lease. When you have found a suitable accommodation option, transfer the money to the airbnb service as payment, and not to the owner, which excludes the possibility of the owner “disappearing” after the money is transferred (and this is what happens on some foreign services). Only after checking in, Airbnb transfers the money to the landlord, and you calmly rest and enjoy life.

But not without a fly in the ointment in a barrel of honey. The service is safe and in case of problems it is a guarantor that you will not be left in trouble without help, but some owners can be cunning and provide inaccurate information about their housing. But such owners can be simply identified and not booked with them. Be sure to read the article about that, and then you will be protected to the maximum.

Airbnb and visa confirmation

Booking on Airbnb is suitable for proof of accommodation, which is required upon obtaining a visa. You just need to print a receipt for payment from the site. There is no difference between confirmation with and with Airbnb, all embassies accept both.

If you do not eat alone, then when booking accommodation on Airbnb.ru, write in the names of all people who are going to live with you in these apartments and they will also be indicated on the receipt. If suddenly you did not do this during the booking, then contact the support service, write the names and surnames (as in passports) of all guests, and then the service staff will correct the receipt and send the corrected version to your mail.

Some embassies also require a copy of the owner's passport: a page with his photograph and a page with his signature. You can find out exactly whether these additional documents are required or not for your visa, you can only at your embassy (call them or write to the mail). If copies are still needed, then simply send a letter to the owner with a request (if you do not speak English, you can translate the letter in an online translator) to send copies of the pages and within a few hours or days (when how) you will receive them. For almost never need to receive a copy of the passport of the landlord.

Instructions

It's easy enough to figure out how to use the AirBnb website, but, knowing a few tricks, you can find very good and cheap housing.

AirBnb is the best travel rental site. Travel and enjoy life! All the best!

Traveling through different countries Most travelers stay in hotels, guesthouses or guesthouses. Since 2008, the excellent AirBNB service has appeared, where you can book various and inexpensive accommodation from private individuals instead of hotels. Moreover, the choice of housing on the site was more colorful, informative and around the world. Unfortunately, AirBNB has changed for the worse and negative reviews about Airbnb are coming across more and more. I was registered in this service almost from the very beginning and I have something to compare with.

For a long time I liked to rent apartments from private owners through AirBNB, so I always gladly recommended this service to my friends. But the further, the service becomes worse and more expensive.

Now AirBNB is not always profitable and convenient for travelers, and I don't want to recommend it anymore. I myself almost completely, tk. many options for apartments with Airbnb are now on Booking and they are cheaper. But what I will use tomorrow, I don’t know. I tried HomeAway and others - everything is not right, and most importantly, the choice is too small. I really like the idea of AirBNB, so I hope something similar will appear soon, but better, cheaper and without hidden fees - and I will definitely tell you about it (stay tuned on FB and VK).

Airbnb got us used to the idea that you can book cheap apartments only through them. Alas, this is no longer the case. Before you habitually book something on Airbnb, google and see the same option in other services - it will take a minute, and you can save almost twice (see the example below).

Here's what has changed at Airbnb, and below you can read my old article about how it was once a really great service.

Important changes to Airbnb from 2018

What happened to Airbnb and why renting a place through them has become unprofitable and even risky:

  • Europe reservations are canceled at the last moment - there is a risk of being left without a reservation in the high season.
Since 2018, it has become risky to rent accommodation through AirBnb - more and more reviews that bookings were canceled at the last moment. This is due to the entry into force of new laws under which homeowners fall - this is mainly relevant for Europe and the United States. I have met most of the reviews about cancellation of bookings from the cities: Barcelona, Valencia, Lisbon, Amsterdam, NY, Singapore. However, Airbnb, instead of helping to resolve this situation, shifted the entire responsibility to customers - get out as you want.
  • It is better not to apply for a visa through AirBnb
In connection with the previous paragraph, they may refuse to receive or give for a shorter period - this has begun to happen more and more often.
  • AirBnb's support team is useless.
It used to be the best customer support I have come across. Now it is impossible to even find where to contact the support service on the Airbnb website, the e-mail and the support phone number are carefully hidden, and when it is possible to reach out not to automatic answers, but to a living person, they answer like robots and can do nothing to help.
Especially when your question is about Airbnb payment tricks - the support service starts to “turn on the fool” and pretend they don't understand at all what this is about. And the screenshots, they say, we don't understand where you got it from ...
  • Removed prices from the calendar.
Previously, you could look at the prices for each day in the calendar and select those days when they are cheaper, now this option has been removed.
  • Hide the final price.
The price you see on the main page may differ from the final one by 1.5 times! Guess in whose favor?
Moreover, this is not an Airbnb scam, either. in the rules all this is somewhere and not to dig. We just learned to hide the final price so cleverly.
For example, we want to rent an apartment in Milan for 3 days (see the picture below) - on the Airbnb home page the price is 53 euros per day:

Now watch your hands carefully: on the next page they already write that 50 euros is super! But commissions are added, a total of 205. I wonder where the price of 53 on the main one came from?
At Step 3, the price for some reason turns into 206.36 and they write that this is a conversion commission. What kind of conversion? Euro to Euro?
And finally, in the end, we are converted into rubles and the total price becomes 213 euros in 3 days (for this day, the Central Bank rate is 1 EUR = 73.90 RUB). How much did it end up in a day? (The answer is under the picture.)

Airbnb pricing trick - follow the steps

We calculate: magically 53 euros turns into 71 euros per day! By the way, it is not clear where 53 came from? In general, if you look at the screenshot, there are many more questions for Airbnb ...

Therefore, do not rush to book, first go to the checkout page and compare this price with the price on other services - always compare the final price, not the intermediate one! You will be greatly surprised.

  • More expensive and hidden Airbnb fees.
Commissions have grown: Airbnb now charges 3% per owner and 15% per guest, according to their website. In addition, many do not notice, but Airbnb does forced currency conversion not in favor of the client, and this adds up to 3% more already at the final step of the payment. Total 21% - this is overkill! Therefore, I switched to Booking, where the commission is lower, and the price for the traveler is indicated as final and there are no hidden fees - the client is immediately on the first page.
Why Booking? Yes, because it is there that the same apartments with Airbnb are now presented, but for more favorable price... It seems that Airbnb has become unprofitable for apartment owners. even the starting price of apartments has become higher than, for example, on Booking.
For example, here is the same apartment in Lisbon, which is listed on Airbnb and Booking (the links can easily compare from the photo that this is the same apartment). Let's compare prices for the same dates:

Total: 372 euros on Airbnb (no conversion fees, the exact price will be at the last step) versus 233 euros on Booking (final price).
If you pay with a ruble card, your Airbnb account will end up at RUB 28,449.04. with the Central Bank rate 1 EUR = 73.90 RUB. That is, the final price is 385 euros !!!

That is, the euro rate in Airbnb turns out to be 76.47 rubles, which means that the markup is the same + 3% for conversion.
It would seem that for payment it is better to leave an account in the host's currency, but no - Airbnb forcibly converts into the currency of your country, which you specified during registration, even if you pay with a card in euros, and you will only find out after payment (wrote about this in their support with all screenshots at every step of the booking process, because at every step the price changed, it seemed strange and decided to take screenshots, but they replied that he himself was a fool and chose the wrong currency, and the screenshots are unlikely where I got them ...). I wonder if the owner's currency is "tugriks" (for example, in Thailand), will there be a double conversion? I didn't check it. Well, Airbnb has found a great way to make money!

  • Airbnb absolutely don't give a damn about loyal users.
If they offer newcomers promotions and discounts, then those who have been using the service for a long time only increase their commissions every year. I think many people remember the 12% commission.

Why did Airbnb start to "spit" on their customers? Maybe Airbnb will come to their senses and turn back to us, customers? After all, there was a great service and you can still occasionally find interesting options on Airbnb, but, alas, less and less ...

How AirBnb used to work

(Everything below was written in 2010 and is no longer relevant - I will leave it for history)
My acquaintance with AirBNB happened by chance. In March, while planning a trip to, I could not book an inexpensive hotel there. Prices started at $ 100 and went into space. As a result, on the advice of a friend, I found myself through AirBNB an apartment on the 28th floor in the Bukit Batok metro area. For only $ 80, with a great view and a great pool. Although the owner of the apartment was nominally present, I practically did not intersect with him. For the first experience I was more than satisfied - I managed and well imagined “how I would live here” :)

Don't confuse AirBNB rental with couchsurfing. Couchsurfing “subscriptions” are free, but provide neither privacy nor comfort. On the other hand, hotels offer comfort, but at a high price. By the way, there are not as many hotels in some cities as you want. So rental housing through AirBNB this is something in between - more comfortable than "vpiski", but cheaper than hotels.

How do I like booking accommodation with AirBNB?

In the photo: a fully furnished apartment in Prague, for example, can be rented on AirBNB for 29 euros / day

1. Savings

AirBNB offers pleasant and comfortable accommodation cheaper than hotels. This is especially true for fashionable, expensive and tourist cities such as Nice, Barcelona or. Reservation of accommodation via AirBNB on holidays, when the cost of all hotels skyrockets.

2. Hotels are not everywhere

In the photo: when traveling, you can choose completely different and unusual types of housing

You can live in various areas of cities where there is simply no. By booking through AirBNB, the traveler can test a variety of housing formats: apartments in skyscrapers, standard apartments, detached villas, romantic attics and even yachts :) Moreover, there are options to get both a room in an apartment and rent the entire housing.

3. New impressions and interesting experiences

To live a couple of days “like a local”, something like a “demo version” is a valuable experience and broadening of horizons. A great way to appreciate the peculiarities of housing and the quality of local life, to feel like “Barcelona” or “Singaporean”. Especially useful if you are thinking of going to this country :)

4. Chatting with new people

If you rent a room in an apartment, it is quite possible to improve your knowledge of a foreign language by communicating with the landlords. For example, learn something about the locals, about the real prices and the rules of life of this country and its inhabitants.

How to book accommodation with AirBNB

Sign up for AirBNB, fill in the contact details in your profile. To book good accommodations through AirBNB, you need to “like” potential hosts. Submit your friendliest photo, write what you are a “white and fluffy” traveler and landlords will reach out to you :) By the way, landlords and tenants have their own personal ratings on AirBNB. The more often you rent accommodation through AirBNB, the more recommendations you will have. This will facilitate subsequent check-ins.

What to look for when looking for accommodation on the AirBNB website

In the photo: first of all, we check the calendar and prices for the required days

First of all, check the calendar for free dates and prices for these days. Prices may change on different days of the week.

Having picked up an interesting housing option, we study the final price, living conditions and reviews from other guests.

In the photo: note - added cleaning and collection fees for AirBNB

By renting a house through AirBNB you pay the actual price of the accommodation + site commission + cleaning fee + guarantee amount (blocked / refunded)

In the photo: it is important to read all the living conditions

We study all the conditions for renting housing on AirBNB

Usually the landlord states the following:

1. Type of accommodation: apartment (house) or just a room
2. The number of guests (in this example 4). If there are more guests, an additional fee will be applied for each additional guest.
3. The amount of the security deposit (it is not always the case). This amount is blocked by AirBNB from your card in case of damage (in this example 150 euros)
4. House cleaning fee. Sometimes the landlord writes more money for cleaning, thereby lowering the site commission for you (a percentage of the daily price of the apartment)
5. Cancellation penalties (flexible, moderate, severe) - be sure to read these conditions when booking.
6. We study in the description what is in the apartment: parking, internet, washing machine, TV, etc.

If everything suits you, write a request to the landlord or just press the red “Book” button. Then wait for a response. Most landlords respond and approve your request fairly quickly. Sometimes, however, it happens and they refuse.

If you see a lightning bolt, then the apartment can be rented automatically, without waiting for the owner's confirmation. So convenient.

My review of the website Airbnb.ru, where I often rent apartments when traveling. Find out about booking accommodation, getting discounts and precautions.

I travel 10-15 times a year and often book accommodation on Airbnb.ru. I love this service. In this review, I will tell you how to use it safely and profitably. And using the link below, any new user can get a discount on their first booking.

What is Airbnb

Airbnb is the world's largest private travel rental service. Service statistics: 800,000 housing options, 190 countries of the world, 34,000 cities, over 17,000,000 guests who have booked accommodation in this service.

The service works in many countries, there is a version in Russian: Airbnb.ru.

Through Airbnb, you can rent apartments, houses, villas, rooms, guest house rooms, residential boats and bungalows, castles, tree houses, camper vans.

Our apartment in an old half-timbered house in Rouen, France. It cost all 28 € per day.

My Airbnb review: pros and cons

I have been using this service for the seventh year now and have rented dozens of different properties around the world. In my piggy bank: houses in the Azores, apartments in Prague, St. Petersburg, Tbilisi, The Hague, Paris, Rouen, Cana, rooms and rooms in guesthouses in Barcelona, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

Why I like Airbnb:

  • Interesting... Huge selection of accommodation, more interesting than simple hotels. I try to book authentic apartments with cool designs and preferably houses with history.
  • Inexpensive... Renting an apartment on Airbnb.ru is often cheaper than renting a hotel room. For example, in France we saved a lot by living in apartments for 28-50 € instead of hotels for 100 €. For families and companies of at least 3-4 people, it is almost always more profitable to book accommodation, rather than hotel rooms.
  • Practical... Living in an apartment with a kitchen is very convenient and profitable - you save on food.
  • Privacy... I am an introvert, so I love privacy: there is more privacy in an apartment and a house that is completely at your disposal than in hotels.
  • Excellent customer support in Russian: they work quickly, they always help.
  • Convenient system of reviews, ratings and filters allow you to choose the best accommodation.
  • Simple and straightforward website design.
  • Safety... You pay by card on the service website, you do not need to take cash with you and solve financial matters with the owner.
  • Suitable for visa... All consulates accept reservations with Airbnb without any problems, I received 4 or 5 Schengen on them.

I haven't had a bad experience booking on Airbnb yet. I am completely satisfied with the service, you can only find fault with trifles.

What I do not like:

  • Service commission when renting a home - 10-15%. However, everything is fair, they should earn money.
  • There is a risk of bumping into a bad master... But this human factor, the service is not to blame. But there is a system of reviews of other tourists about Airbnb accommodation and a support service. Next, I'll show you how to choose a reliable host and good housing.

Our authentic apartment in an old building in the center of Tbilisi costs only 1,700 rubles per day.

Choose apartments with reviews and high ratings (4-5) - this is a guarantee that everything will be fine with housing. Airbnb reviews cannot be faked, so all sane hosts try to please guests to get good ratings.

Read reviews - people can report important things: for example, the Internet or heating is not working well, noise from the street interferes at night, and so on.

Reliable host:

  • has a verified profile,
  • many positive reviews,
  • registered on the service long ago.

In case of problems, always write or call support. Once we had a bad apartment in France, and we had to sweep the floor ourselves, I thought it fair to ask Airbnb to refund us the cleaning fee - they returned it the same day. If the accommodation does not match the one stated in the description, complain and the service will either give you coupons for a $ 50-100 discount, or provide you with better and more expensive accommodation in the same city.

Our cozy apartment in Paris for 50 euros per day.

About prices

The cost of housing almost always depends on the season: in the high season there is a high demand and prices are 2-3 times higher. I try to travel in low season so as not to overpay.

Airbnb charges a service fee based on the amount of the booking - usually around 10-15%.

Often the hosts will include a cleaning fee separately, but you will see this amount before booking.

Sometimes the bill includes taxes of the municipality from tourists (in Italy, for example).

In rare cases, the owner can take a deposit for the safety of the property - this is typical for solid apartments and apartments where there is something to spoil, destroy and break. In my practice, there was only one such example.

The amount you pay when booking is final. When you meet with the owner, you will not have to pay anything else.

A house by the ocean is wonderful! My best Airbnb accommodation. We lived with friends and paid 1,700 rubles per person. Floris Island, Azores, Portugal.

How to book accommodation on Airbnb

Everything is very simple. In short, it looks like this: you go to the Airbnb website, look at housing in the right city for the right dates, choose, check out with the owner, book, come, live and enjoy. Now in more detail.

Stage 1. Registration

Fill out your profile: add a photo, link to your Facebook page and phone number, write a few lines about yourself - all this is necessary to confirm that you are a real person and to enable future landlords to get to know you. It is advisable to upload a scan of your document to verify your account and make it reliable. This is for safety reasons.

After registration, you can invite your friends and receive a new bonus - $ 17 for each friend. Nice and nice discount!

Stage 2. Choice of housing

Now you can start looking for housing.

Airbnb is a convenient and simple service, you can easily figure it out. Enter the required information in the search box: destination, dates and number of guests. A page will open with the available options and their location on the map. There are search filters at the top. You can limit the price range, select the area, type of accommodation, and more.

Open the pages of the accommodation you like. Read the description, reviews, look at the photo. Compare and choose the best option.

Once you have chosen your accommodation, you can book it right away or write to the owner first to ask your questions. Do as you like.

This is how the website of the Airbnb.ru service looks like.

Stage 3. Payment

You will need a bank card or PayPal to book your accommodation. Payments go through a secure protocol. Recently, it became possible to pay half the amount, and the rest - later, about a week before arrival. Please double check the dates and number of guests before paying.

After you book an apartment on Airbnb, the host has 24 hours to approve your application. If he does not do this, the money will be immediately returned to your card. Once I had this.

The service has accommodation marked "instant booking" - the reservation is made automatically, confirmation of the owner of the property is not required.

In this article, you will learn about Airbnb, which allows you to rent accommodation in other countries! As a bonus give 2100 rubles to live in any country in the world. The coupon is valid for a year.

What is Airbnb

Let's start with the basics. Airbnb is a dedicated site where you can arrange renting with the owner of your home. This is ideal both for tourists traveling in a crowd (it's cheaper to rent an apartment and get everyone in there than paying for a bed in a hotel), and for those who are tired of classic sleekness. Do you want to feel the flavor of everyday life in a new city? Then you definitely have a direct road to this site.

Get 2100 rubles on AirBnb

How Airbnb works

You enter the city of residence and the number of people into the search. After that, you are given a list of suitable places with an indication of the cost. Then you can filter the results in various ways.

After you have chosen several suitable options for yourself, it is time to write a request to the owner of the apartment. In this letter, you should introduce yourself, indicate the desired posting dates and ask questions that haunt you. It is also reasonable to provide links to your profiles on social networks so that the landlord forms an adequate opinion of you as a person.

The situation is almost the same as with. A person, on the basis of one letter, must decide to let you into the apartment and leave you unattended for several days. You must remove his possible anxiety.

After you have received answers to all your questions, click the "Book" button. In the next 24 hours, the owner of the premises will have to decide whether to let you in or not. If his answer is yes, then the required amount will be debited from your card. After payment, the contact information of the owner of the apartment will become available and the exact address.

Safety

Let's talk about security first. All important booking details and all financial issues should be discussed only through the website. So there will be an opportunity to appeal to this in case of conflict situations. Don't go to third-party negotiation sites.

If you are not sure about your plans, then choose those offers that provide for loyal conditions for canceling your reservation. Speak all financial matters before paying. You have to imagine how much money will go to bail, and how much to pay.

In case of trouble, try to notify the company about it. To do this, you can use the help center on the site. There is support in Russian.

Good to know

The site contains verified photos of places that can be rented. These photos were taken by a service representative and have the Airbnb logo in the upper corner. This mark indicates that the illustration can be trusted.

If there are not many of you, and apartment prices bite, try renting a room. Of course, living with the landlord may not be all that fun. On the other hand, they will tell you what to see, what transport to use and where to buy food.

Pay attention to the "Response rate" indicator in the profile of the potential host. This figure indicates how often this person responds to requests. You should not write to those who have a low score. Perhaps they have not visited the site for a long time.

If for some reason you want to rent an apartment right now, then look for options with the "Instant booking" option. They can be booked without the owner's consent.

Read reviews and take them objectively. The very fact of a positive / negative review does not mean anything. What matters is what is written in the comment. Is the problem really objective and will bother you?

If you check the box next to "Social networks" in the search, you can see where your friends have stayed.

Pros of Airbnb

  • A large number of proposals (from panel high-rise buildings to old lighthouses);
  • It is convenient to travel with a group or family. Moreover, it is cheaper;
  • Colorful. You can feel like a real resident of this city;
  • Cashless payments. All financial transactions go through the site and are recorded there. As a bonus, you don't have to carry extra cash with you.
  • Airbnb printouts work for most consulates. So it will make the visa process easier for you.

Cons of Airbnb

  • The landlord is better protected by the rules of the system than the traveler. He can easily cancel your reservation a few days before arrival and you will urgently have to look for a backup option;
  • The day before arrival, a security deposit is blocked on your card, which will be returned to you after leaving the apartment. But only if the owner does not report violations on your part. At the same time, it is not very clear how you can build your own justifying rhetoric and protect yourself from unfounded claims;
  • The entire amount is blocked on the card at the time of booking. If you plan your trip a lot in advance, then be prepared to freeze some of your funds;
  • Cancellation policy for the traveler. Everything here is tougher than for the owner and depends on the type of transaction. There are also those in which the cancellation of the reservation in less than a week entails a complete loss of the paid funds. Read the booking conditions carefully;

People from all over the world are choosing accommodation for their trips. Despite the constant struggle with local laws prohibiting short-term rentals, today the service offers more than 2 million options for comfortable accommodation in more than 65,000 cities around the world. Convenience and completeness of search, together with unique locations and affordable prices, have made renting a property easier than ever, whether you plan to spend time with someone in a spare room or rent an entire house.

Nevertheless, the market for services for travel grows every year, which allows travel companies to develop even faster, occupying new niches and improving their services.

From a designer search service to online platforms for renting inclusive apartments, we offer you a look at 9 worthy alternatives to the service Airbnb from the largest players in the short-term rental housing industry.

HomeAway

American service HomeAway was created 3 years before the appearance Airbnb, and is today one of the main competitors for the Californian project. The company provides its users with more than 2 million housing options in 190 countries around the world, which is comparable to the coverage Airbnb. To achieve such a scale, the service year after year absorbed a number of small local companies in various countries, thanks to which today the project HomeAway works on the basis of 50 different sites in 23 languages.

The company offers a wide range of short-term rental properties, including, in addition to standard accommodation, also ship cabins, villas, castles and farmhouses.

It is curious that since December 2015 the service HomeAway acquired by a global travel company Expedia Inc, under whose wing other online projects from the travel industry are collected, such Expedia.com , Hotels.com , CarRentals.com, other.

Vacasa

Another American company Vacasa is not as large as Airbnb or HomeAway, and offers a total of 7200+ holiday homes in the USA, Europe, South and Central America. However, the main difference from the market leaders is that the company itself oversees the real estate it leases, and itself maintains a staff of about 1000 employees involved in supporting the operation of real estate objects. This approach allows Vacasa to maintain competitive rental prices for their homes, while providing even more quality services for their customers.

The project is relatively new, so there are not many rental options available. However, the company claims to cover more than 130 countries already and will continue to work further to expand its service.
