How long does Khan Shatyr work? Khan Shatyr. The largest tent in the world. Entertainment and attractions of the Khan Shatyr shopping center

– is already a very attractive state in itself with the charming capital Astana. Majestic mountains, huge deserts and beautiful forests will not leave any person indifferent. However, not only natural attractions, but also historical and modern ones delight. What's it worth? Shopping center "Khan Shatyr", which has become a striking landmark in the modern architecture of Astana.

Today I will tell you about this interesting attraction of Astana, about its entertainment and attractions, about prices and promotions.

The history of the creation of the shopping and entertainment center "Khan Shatyr"

"Khan Shatyr" is considered the main huge entertainment facility of the city and the largest tent in the world, because its spire has a height of 150 meters with a total area of 127 thousand square meters. m. Construction of this incredible masterpiece of modern engineering began back in 2006. The entertainment center was designed by Norman Foster, which became quite famous thanks to some other architectural wonders of Astana. And here his skill did not fail: “Khan Shatyr” is a real miracle of the capital.

Although it was planned to complete construction within several years, weather and technical factors did not contribute to this. And only in the middle of the summer of 2010, the grand opening of the Khan Shatyr entertainment complex took place, which was attended by a huge number of people, among them were representatives of many countries, including Viktor Yanukovych and Dmitry Medvedev, and ordinary people of the capital.

“Khan Shatyr” surprised me with its appearance, shaped like a huge transparent tent 150 meters high, which made the building the tallest in the world. This tent is supported by three poles with an outer surface containing many metal cables that converge towards the very top. The cables are stretched with a special transparent material that is resistant to strong temperature changes and can provide pleasant climatic conditions inside the building, no matter what time of year or natural disasters. In addition, I really liked the combination of the latest technologies in the field of architecture and the unusual and impressive design.

Main attractions of "Khan Shatyr"

It is simply impossible to visit Astana without looking at Khan Shatyr, since in the very center of the city, not far from the President’s residence, it organically fits into the architecture of the buildings, and its size does not go unnoticed.

  • The shopping and entertainment complex building has its own parking for 700 cars and has 5 levels, or floors, each of which pleases with its special interesting places. For example, on the ground floor you can see the supports of the building, which you like for their simplicity, but at the same time massiveness.
  • I was surprised by the real luxury here green greenhouse bathed in sunlight.
  • Besides, huge atrium, the area of which is about 1500 sq. m, and bright daylight are the main, striking details of “Khan Shatyr” and the main “features” of this wonderful complex.
  • Among the wonderful attractions of the shopping center I would also include the fascinating amusement park on the 4th and 5th floors.
  • And I would say the main attraction is year-round water park in Astana, located here in “Khan Shatyr”, the photos of which are simply amazing.

Entertainment and attractions of the Khan Shatyr shopping center

The first and second floors offer very stylish fashion gallery of the most popular brands, such as ZARA and Mark&Spencer, so shopping lovers will have a place to spend their time profitably. Having risen higher with the help of specially equipped escalators, floors 3-5 pleased with the presence of wonderful entertainment and attractions.

  • Restaurants They offer to eat the most delicious and exquisite food - in “Velkhat” you can taste the cuisine, and in “Assorti” - a mix of different cuisines. The food court on the third level will satisfy tourists with quick food for a small amount. And all this is combined with a wonderful atmosphere, which was achieved thanks to the original design.
  • Internet cafe, decorated in wood with large tables, and a SPA center on the fourth floor will provide not only a pleasant pastime, but will also help you truly relax and unwind.
  • Fame city gaming center with the capital’s tallest attraction – the Leaning Tower, state-of-the-art slot machines, a children’s cafe, many types of carousels and cutting-edge transformers, it is located on the 4th level of “Khan Shatyr” and impresses not only with its uniqueness, but also with its diversity.
  • DinoPark will delight children with the most real dinosaurs of the most real sizes, where you can see 15-meter tyrannosaurs, 14-meter African pterodactyls, caudipteryxes, apotosaurus, Mongolian velociraptors, North American triceratops, maiasaurs that lived in Montana, toothless ptenranodon and other representatives of dinosaurs and reptiles.

  • Not without multi-level maze, made in the form of rockets, which became a simple but original solution. And the surrounding landscape with various greenery inspires little visitors and pleases the eyes of their parents.
  • In my opinion, the shopping center has become an excellent and even useful feature treadmill, which has a promising future.
  • Probably the most interesting movement throughout the tent are the real roller coaster, which is not only convenient, especially with children, but also practical.
  • Waterpark Sky Beach Club– the most popular attraction “Khan Shatyr” with a real beach and reasonable prices is located on the 5th floor. This one-of-a-kind water park is a tropical paradise with warm sand from the Maldives, as its owners claim, and a warm climate that maintains a temperature of +35 C, despite the fact that behind the dome it can be -30 C. Khan Water Park Shatyr" has 3 pools of different depths, where you can ride water slides and relax in a special “beach” bar. In addition, one of the pools surprised us with artificial waves. I was very glad to visit such a wonderful and unique shopping and entertainment center in Khan Shatyr. It struck me with its massiveness and huge entertainment area, I would even say for every taste. What else do you think can be visited at Khan Shatyr, how can you have fun with the whole family? I look forward to your suggestions in the comments.

The Khan Shater entertainment center in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, is an architectural project that is billed as the world's largest marquee. The "tent" is made of transparent material and rests on a network of cables stretched from a central spire 150 meters high. The 200-meter elliptical dome base covers an area of 140,000 square meters. The space under the tent is larger than 10 football stadiums, contains an indoor park, a variety of shops and entertainment venues, a river for boat rides, a shopping centre, mini golf and a man-made seaside resort. The transparent material allows sunlight to pass through, which, together with air heating and cooling systems, maintains a comfortable internal temperature between 15–30 °C, while the outdoor temperature varies between -35 and 35 °C throughout the year.

To prevent condensation in winter, three transparent layers of special EFTE transparent fabric are used to channel warm air. In summer, cooled air is supplied there, which is well ventilated through special openings. Thanks to its transparency, during the daytime the interior space is illuminated exclusively by sunlight. In the dark, the tent itself is visible from afar, since due to internal lighting the light softly filters through the dome.

Opened in 2010 by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Khan Shatyr has been described as the “latest vanity project” of Kazakhstan's increasingly autocratic president (The Guardian).

Nazarbayev moved the capital of Kazakhstan to the isolated northern city from Almaty in 1998 and named it Astana, which literally means "capital". On the tenth anniversary of the capital's move, the president signed a decree declaring July 6 Astana Day. The name "Khan Shatyr" roughly translates as "tent of the khan or king."

And here is the artificial resort mentioned above. Of course, it is not as large as a tropical island under a dome in Germany, but it is also very cozy and comfortable.

“Khan Shatyr” fits harmoniously into the urban architecture of the capital. Many technologies and materials used in the construction of the complex are the latest developments in the field of construction and have not been used anywhere in the world before. The unique shell of the tent covering the building makes it possible to maintain a microclimate that is comfortable for humans inside, even if snowstorms and frosts are raging outside. Inside the building there are special stepped terraces planted with plants from different climatic zones of our planet. There is an observation deck on the topmost terrace, which offers a magnificent view of the winter gardens. In the center of the building there is a large area intended for holding various exhibitions and entertainment attractions.

On an area of 41 thousand square meters. m. there are all kinds of shopping pavilions, cafes, restaurants, cinemas. In addition to retail and service businesses, there are beauty salons and modern fitness centers. The tropical water garden and artificial lagoon are especially attractive to visitors. On its shore, a magnificent beach of snow-white sand has been recreated, which was specially brought from the distant islands of the Maldives archipelago. The lagoon is formed by several interconnecting pools, and artificially created waves splash on the surface of one of them. Here, at any time of the year, you can feel like you are at one of the Mediterranean resorts, without experiencing the difficulties of a tiring flight.

This building is incredibly different from most buildings not only in Astana, but also in many large cities in Kazakhstan and Russia. A very detailed National Geographic film in the “Superstructures” series talks about the stages of construction of a giant tent. Here are short excerpts from this film:

  • The construction of this fifty-story skyscraper, whose walls contain air, was carried out under very unfavorable conditions. Kazakhstan is a country where it is +40 in summer and -40 in winter.
  • The unique building was supposed to allow residents and guests of the city to find themselves on a warm beach even in the midst of severe frosts. The radical architect, the Englishman Sir Norman Foster, was ready to carry out such a project. The developer was the Turkish company Sembol Insaat, and its problem solver Selami Gurel did a lot to make up for the two years behind schedule.
  • This building has no underground floors. This solved two problems - the unstable marshland and the economic one. Therefore, the underground parking, located on the “zero” level, is actually located on the first floor of the building. There is a hypermarket on the same floor.
  • Initially, it was planned to complete the construction in just one year, but the construction of the tent dragged on for 4 years - having started in 2006, Khan Shatyr was opened to visitors only in July 2010.
  • The first layout of the giant tent was without tilt. However, the largest buildings in Astana are aligned along the central axis, so Khan Shatyr had to be tilted by 15º. For stability, they decided to use not just one axle, but a tripod - made up of three axles, each of which is about 150 meters long and weighs 2 thousand tons. They end in a node structure that helps distribute the load throughout the structure.
  • Lifting the substructure on a tripod and their final installation took a week.
  • The surface of the tent was assembled from 836 transparent “pillows” - this is an ETFE polymer coating. Each of them was of a unique size and had to be installed in a strictly defined place, otherwise the surface of the tent would not have taken its shape. The result was a “puzzle” with an area of more than 20 thousand m2. Their installation took place in severe frosts, so some installers risked their lives to build the innovative project.

This eco-friendly building was included in the top 10 eco-buildings around the world according to Forbes Style. Moreover, it became the only representative of the CIS.

The tent, as a temporary structure, has been known since Biblical times. Jabal, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob lived in tents, and during the Israelites' wanderings in the desert, life also took place in this type of temporary dwelling. The tent has long been considered a symbol of nomadic life, as many nomads of Asia and North Africa use it to this day, and it is an integral part of everyday life. From the Turkic languages, the word tent is translated as “roof”, and for many peoples who have left their original culture, tents remain an important milestone in the history of their forefathers. For example, in Kazakhstan they decided to pay tribute to this type of housing by building a large shopping and entertainment center Khan Shatyr in the form of a huge tent.

As of today, Khan Shatyr is the largest tent in the world. Opened in July 2010, in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, the building has become a new symbol of the city, as well as the largest shopping center in the country. The main idea when creating such a building was to translate into reality a place where citizens could spend their leisure time and take a break from everyday life, since Astana is also the business center of the country.

Khan Shatyr got its name not by chance. The fact is that some sources claim that the name means “Khan’s Tent,” however, but in fact the name of the complex is defined as “Khan of Tents,” that is, the main one among the tents, by analogy with the Tsar Cannon or the Tsar Bell in Moscow .

Khan Shatyr was built over 4 years, in 2006-2010. The British architectural company Foster and Partners was involved in the construction of the building, known for such unusual projects as the Mary Ax skyscraper (London Gherkin), Hong Kong International Airport, Commerzbank Tower in the center of Frankfurt am Main. The author of the project was the British architect, laureate of the Imperial and Pritzker Prizes, honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts Baron Norman Foster.

After the opening of the building in 2010, Forbes Style magazine included Khan Shatyr in the list of the world's 10 best environmental buildings. What is characteristic is that this is the only building from the entire CIS that was included in the hit parade of the best architectural solutions. Khan Shatyr is considered an eco-building due to its external coating, from the German company Vector Foiltec, which has a special chemical composition that protects the space of the complex from sudden temperature changes and creates a favorable microclimate inside the building. This coating allows sunlight to pass through, which, combined with air circulation inside the building, creates a temperature of up to +30°C in the main room, and up to +24°C in the departments.

Khan Shatyr has a total area of 127 thousand m², which can accommodate about 15 football fields. The tent's spire reaches a height of 150 meters, which is equivalent to a 50-story skyscraper. The base of the tent is elliptical, with dimensions of 200 by 195 meters. The building is constructed from a network of steel cables with a transparent polymer coating attached to them. The cable network is attached to a steel tripod, which weighs up to 635 tons. The weight of the network, fastenings, spire and the coating itself is 1.76 thousand tons, and the reinforcement and concrete base is 432 thousand tons. Khan Shatyr cost the owners 400 million US dollars.

Inside the complex there are shopping and entertainment departments, a supermarket, a park, cafes and restaurants, cinemas, gyms, a water park, office space and parking for 700 cars, but the main highlight is still a sandy beach with a tropical climate and plants, in which the temperature is maintained year-round + 35°C. What’s most interesting is that the sand for this recreation area was brought directly from the Maldives.

Khan Shatyr was opened in July 2010 and dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. The opening ceremony was accompanied by a concert by world performer, Italian tenor of classical music Andrea Bocelli. The ceremony was attended by the President of Russia, the President of Ukraine, the President of Turkey, the President of Belarus, the President of Armenia, the President of Tajikistan, the President of Kyrgyzstan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Muhammad bin Zayed al-Nahyan, and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Khan Shatyr is not only the largest shopping center in Kazakhstan, but also a unique architectural structure. Stylized as a Kazakh yurt, it is a huge transparent tent 150 m high, making it the largest tent structure in the world. The name of the shopping center is translated from Kazakh as “khan among the tents.” In Russian there are similar names, for example, Tsar Bell or Tsar Cannon.

More than 10 football fields could be laid under the dome of Khan Shatyr. The total area of the largest shopping center in Kazakhstan is 127,000 square meters. m. On four floors there is infrastructure for the best shopping and recreation in Astana: almost 200 shops, a huge supermarket, a variety of restaurants and cafes, a cinema, a Fame City gaming center with a “Dinopark” and attractions, a water park, swimming pools, gyms and even a real tropical resort with beach. The Atrium and Sky Beach Club host various events and parties. For visitors there is a parking lot for 700 cars.

Sky Beach Club in Khan Shatyr

Under the very dome of Khan Shatyr is its main feature - Sky Beach Club. This is the first and only recreation center in Kazakhstan that imitates a real tropical resort. It’s +35 degrees here all year round, and visitors will find a beach covered with sand brought from the Maldives. Thanks to a special heating system, a complete feeling of being at a resort is created. Visitors can lie on the warm sand or sip a cocktail on a sun lounger. There are also 2 swimming pools, a water park, a sauna and a jacuzzi. Sky Beach Club regularly hosts parties dedicated to various holidays or dedicated to some theme. Yoga classes are offered.

Pool

The resort in Khan Shatyr is equipped with two swimming pools. The large pool has the following parameters: length - 25 m, depth - 1.4 m, water temperature +28 degrees. The small pool uses the wave effect. Visitors can swim or simply lie on the waves, listening to the sound of the waves and enjoying the tropical views.

Aquapark

The water park at Sky Beach Club is small. There are only a few slides, but they are quite high, so it will be interesting for both adults and children to slide down them. It is hardly worth considering the water park in Khan Shatyr as an independent entertainment - it is an excellent addition to the resort infrastructure of the club.

Prices

The entrance ticket price is:

  • 10,000 tenge - adult ticket;
  • 6,000 tenge - children's ticket.

Children under 5 years old are admitted free of charge.

Visitors are provided with a towel. Additional towels, slippers and bathrobes are available at an additional cost.

You can also purchase passes for 3, 6 and 12 months, which will make your holiday at the resort cheaper. In addition, the club has a number of special offers that allow you to save on tickets on certain days and times. The full list of offers can be found on the official website.

Shopping complex inside

The shopping center building looks very impressive both outside and inside. In the internal space, organized according to the principle of an atrium, there are three support posts on which a tent made of transparent polymer material “stitched” with steel cables is “put on”. All structural elements are open, so you can carefully examine them and enjoy the unusual beauty, especially the grandiose dome. The sun's rays, passing through the transparent tent, allow you to see the openwork supports from the street, thanks to which the shopping complex takes on an even more futuristic look. A three-layer polymer coating protects the space under the dome from sudden temperature changes characteristic of the harsh climate of the capital of Kazakhstan and creates an optimal microclimate inside.

The author of this magnificent project is the British architect Norman Foster, one of the creators of the high-tech style, a follower of the great Russian engineer V. G. Shukhov. In addition to Khan Shatyr, the Palace of Peace and Reconciliation (co-authored with Gulzifa Abileva) and the Library of the First President were built in Astana according to Foster’s design.

The Khan Shatyr shopping center was opened on July 6, 2010. Forbes Style magazine included it in the top ten eco-buildings in the world, which no building in the CIS had previously received.
