Jungle Beach is a small sandy beach on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, located in a bay among tropical vegetation. The distance to it from the popular Unawatuna beach is about a couple of kilometers.

Description of the beach
Jungle Beach consists of two small sandy areas separated by a rock ridge about 100 meters long. Due to the location of the beach in a bay protected by a coral reef, the Indian Ocean here is unusually calm, there are either no waves at all or they are very small. Therefore, Jungle Beach is considered one of the best places in the south and southwest of Sri Lanka where you can swim comfortably without fighting the waves.
However, it is worth considering that in the water, as well as on the coastal strip, there are stones in the sand, so you need to be careful not to hit them. In addition, there may be coral in some places, so special shoes will not hurt. The entry into the water at Jungle Beach is gentle, the depth increases gradually.
The sand on Jungle Beach is light brown, dense, comfortable to walk on - your feet won’t sink in. The color of the ocean differs at different times and at different depths - from light blue shades to rich blue-greens.
The beach has enough areas with natural shade from the spreading tropical trees that surround the shore, so finding a place where you can hide from direct sunlight is not difficult.
In the morning hours, there are usually no people on Jungle Beach. The first vacationers appear here around noon. There are also a lot of people, especially local residents, here on weekends. Sri Lankan youth prefer to relax on the far side of the beach, where they often have something like picnics: in addition to swimming, they fry meat, play drums or play ball.
Infrastructure
In reviews from several years ago you can find information that Jungle Beach has minimal infrastructure: sun loungers, a beach cafe, a shower and a toilet. All this appeared here at a time when the neighboring popular Unawatuna beach was experiencing problems with the shoreline (some of the sand was washed away by the ocean and the width of the beach was greatly reduced), and the local population was looking for alternative options to offer tourists. However, after the shore of Unawatuna Beach was resurfaced in 2015, the popularity of Jungle Beach greatly decreased, and the entire infrastructure disappeared.
At the moment, the beach is not equipped in any way; moreover, a sufficient amount of garbage often accumulates here due to the sufficient distance from roads and irregular cleaning on it.
However, thanks to the soft sandy surface and the presence of a large number of trees on the beach, you can comfortably sit here simply on a towel or blanket in natural shade.
There are often boats moored at Jungle Beach that you can rent for a boat trip - to return to Unawatuna this way or to sail further from the coast for diving or snorkeling.

Things to do at Jungle Beach
Jungle Beach is a great place for those who love to snorkel. Thanks to the absence of waves and the presence of a coral reef nearby, you can fully enjoy the beauty and diversity of the underwater world of the Indian Ocean. Some tourists note that you can see more than 20 species of marine life, including butterfly fish, surgeon fish, sea dragons and urchins, and even dangerous moray eels and stingrays.
Those who are partial to monkeys will also like the beach: they are well-fed on Jungle Beach and willingly come down to tourists for treats.
Jungle Beach is perfect for photo shoots: turquoise ocean waters, hanging palm branches, picturesque boulders. The landscape is complemented by a small pond located nearby and covered with lotuses.

How to get to Jungle Beach in Sri Lanka
You can get to Jungle Beach from the large resort of Unawatuna. From the western part of the main beach of the village there is a path leading through the jungle and a small settlement. It is worth considering that somewhere on it there are quite extreme sections - ascents and descents over stones, “steps” made from tree roots. So it is advisable to hit the road in comfortable shoes, especially after rain.
There are signs to Jungle Beach along the entire path, so it’s impossible to get lost here. Along the way, in the tropical thickets you can see monkeys, porcupines, monitor lizards and other numerous lizards, and in some places you come across areas with stunning views of the ocean and bay. Having reached the snow-white Peace Pagoda, you need to turn left onto the descent directly to Jungle Beach. The entire journey from Unawatuna Beach takes 20-30 minutes.
You can also get to Jungle Beach from Unawatuna and neighboring towns by tuk-tuk or taxi; they stop about a 5-minute walk from the beach.
For those who plan to visit not only Jungle Beach, renting a motorbike is a good option for getting around the island. Rental points can be found in any tourist spot in Sri Lanka.
