These photos were taken from a small area, which can be found if you follow from Kamala beach towards Surin (or vice versa, from Surin to Kamala), not far from Kamala, before reaching Laem Sing beach, there will be a small natural platform from which you can see this luxurious view of the entire Kamala beach.

Kamala Beach is a stunning beach in every way!

For us, Kamala Beach has become a source of harmony, natural beauty and a relaxing atmosphere.

First of all, it is very beautiful, this immediately catches your eye as soon as you approach the beach. Here, tall palm trees, lined up along the perimeter of the beach, blend so harmoniously with sea water delicate blue-turquoise color and soft white sand, which, in the rays of the sun, shimmers and plays in different shades, from snow-white to light beige and even gray-yellow.

And here are the happy newlyweds

Secondly, Kamala Beach is uncrowded and calm. In addition, there is no road right behind the beach, which gives additional silence. All this contributes to a calm, measured and relaxed holiday.

Length coastline Kamala Beach is almost 2 kilometers long, which is not small, and the width of the beach is about 20-30 meters, not much, but these meters are enough for relaxation. In addition, due to the fact that the beach smoothly merges into the embankment, visually, the beach strip appears much wider.

The sea water is clean. The beach is also quite clean and well maintained. There is natural debris from palm trees and washed out by the sea waves, but we did not notice any household garbage on the beach; it is clear that the beach is regularly cleaned.

For quieter relaxation and sunbathing, the northern side of the beach is more suitable. It is quieter here than in the central part of the beach. Here, at the farthest northern point of the beach, is the 4-star Hotel Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach. There is a public part of the beach adjacent to the hotel. Casuarina trees provide good cooling, which also act as a source of a pleasant smell.

The central part of the beach has all the necessary beach infrastructure. There is a toilet and shower, as well as some beach and water activities - banana boat rides, jet ski rides, parachute flights over the sea surface. You can rent a boat or kayak. And for even more relaxation, order a massage and relax under the gentle and skillful hands of Thai girls.

In search of coolness, you can take advantage of the natural shade coming from the palm trees growing along the perimeter of the beach, or rent a sun lounger and parasol, of which there are a great many in the central part of the beach. Price - 200 baht per day for two sun loungers and a sun umbrella.

The southernmost part of the beach is not suitable for beach holiday, this is a more “wild” place, the coastal area is dirty and boats are crowded together.

Well, thirdly. If you have already forgotten, then under these points we list the advantages of Kamala Beach)). Thirdly, Kamala does not end at one beach; Kamala can rightfully be called a fully developed provincial town of the same name. There is an embankment along the length of the beach, and in the center of Kamala there are several streets with an abundance of cafes and restaurants, bars and massage parlors, small shops and retail outlets, as well as exchange offices, hotels and guest houses.

There is a narrow promenade along the beach, one part of which is occupied by hotels, so it is calmer and conducive to walking.

In the central part of the beach there are cafes and restaurants, some of which are located right on the beach.

Near the embankment, in the central part of Kamala, there is a small green Park, which houses a cafe, a children's playground and historical monument- Tsunami Memorial Park.

Monument to the victims of the 2004 Tsunami

Moving from the park higher into the center of Kamala, you will certainly come out onto the busy Rim Hat Rd, along which there are numerous retail outlets, shops, massage parlors, money exchangers, cafes and restaurants, as well as hotels and guest houses.

Cons of Kamala Beach

For us personally, the only downside of the beach is the rivers that flow into the sea. There are several of these on the beach. These rivers are far from ideal, dirty, but not stinking. However, when swimming in the sea, you completely forget about this. In addition, the flow of “stinky rivers” into the sea on the beach strip is typical for most beaches in Phuket.

Entertainment and attractions of Kamala

One of the main and outstanding entertainments of Kamala is the colorful and large-scale show “Phuket Fantasy”. Phuket FantaSea, it's a whole theme park, an entertaining performance that features beautiful scenery, many actors and trained animals.

On Fridays, an evening market (in Phuket it is called a night market) is organized in Kamala. At the market you can buy clothes and souvenirs, as well as enjoy Thai cuisine, the dishes of which will be prepared before your eyes.

You can also walk to the Kamala Temple (Wat Kamala). The temple grounds are quiet and cozy. And the bright buildings, with red tiled roofs and the Buddha sculpture are made in the traditional Buddhist style and are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. The temple is located in the southern part of the beach, near the school.

Where to stay in Kamala

There is a wide variety of accommodation near Kamala Beach, ranging from the most expensive and respectable 5-star resort hotels to budget hotels and guest houses. All accommodation facilities in Kamala are available.

How to get to Kamala Beach

From the airport by taxi, or you can rent a motorbike or car. Well, or, which is the fastest and easiest thing, you can order an individual transfer in advance. At any time of the day, at the airport, a driver will be waiting for you with a sign with your name and surname written on it. To order a taxi, just provide your flight details.

On public transport with a transfer in Phuket Town.

From Phuket town

By songthaew (local buses) following the route “Phuket - Bangtao - Surin - Kamala”. Fast, direct, no transfers. The fare is 40 baht.

From the beaches of Bangtao and Surin

In songthaew. Or on foot. From Surin Beach the road is close and takes about 30 minutes, passing over the sea and along the cape. It’s further from Bang Tao beach, but walking is quite possible.

From other beaches and points of the island, also with a transfer in Phuket town, rented a bike or taxi/tuk-tuk.

This time, the room we stayed in was not very well cleaned at first. To be honest, we were immediately surprised! Earlier to return to the room, cleanliness, everything is in place, etc. After the first day of cleaning, we thought that we had imagined it. Plus, the traditional cream and coffee have not yet been delivered. I asked the staff to correct this situation. Looks like they reported it. The next day, it happened again exactly. Then I was forced to contact the reception, after which they arranged a meeting with the manager. I explained the situation to her, she went with me to the room, where she saw confirmation of my claims. We must pay tribute, the reaction was timely! Our room probably hasn't been cleaned like this since its first day of use. In the subsequent days of our stay, everything was just really polished, arranged, filled and supplemented. Another issue that I immediately discussed with the manager was the issue of replacing my three breakfasts, with an additional payment for dinner. Let me explain. I went on a dive, so three of my breakfasts included in the price of my stay were burned. I offered to exchange them with an additional payment for dinners for my wife, who was staying at the hotel. I was given a refusal. I believe that this is not serious and such an issue can, in principle, be resolved without any difficulties. This is the treatment of the hotel management. I hope that next time, in case of an appeal, it will be resolved.

This is the FOURTH time in a row that we have been to this hotel and that speaks for itself! All previous reviews are here earlier. Everything is good: territory, five swimming pools, three bars, two restaurants. Cleanliness in the area. We note positively, but we saw soft, non-wet mattresses on the sunbeds. I already wrote about this and told the staff earlier, it was not entirely comfortable to lie on the sagging sunbeds. Now it's normal. The food deserves special praise and its quality does not change with each visit! Again, having your own private beach, fenced off by water, is positive. Zero line to the sea. Thank you......

We paid a deposit when checking into the hotel. And after eviction, the balance of the deposit should have been returned to the card within 14 days. But the money never came to us! There are approximately 2,500 baht left in the account (5,000 rubles!). We already called the hotel, they said contact your bank, which we naturally already did, the hotel simply ignores email! It turns out the hotel stole 2,500 baht from us. This ruined the whole impression of the staff's work, I would really like to get our money back!!!

The hotel itself is good, I enjoyed my stay. We can’t say anything bad about the hotel itself, but!

We have already stayed in this hotel 3 times since 2012 for 24 days and each time it gets worse. The rooms should be reconstructed - (goosebumps and cockroaches were present in every room where we lived). The hotel is at full capacity - there are no sunbeds for everyone, cocktails at the bar are diluted (and this was only noticed in 2019). The price of accommodation is rising every year. On the next balcony they smoke so much that there is a complete smoke screen in your room. Massage at the hotel - depending on your luck. Sometimes it’s lazy and nothing. Cleaning the room is ridiculous even to describe. (in 24 days - more than one general. Nobody even thinks about the fact that the railings on the cormorant need to be wiped from bird droppings. The electrical system is very strangely organized. If you turn on the light, the TV goes out. ((Every year there are a lot of people on the beach people and the fact that we loved this beach and hotel so much will disappear. The most interesting thing is that the compliment from the hotel was fruit only once. In previous years, at least 3. And then. Change the shower gel and soap - it smells terrible.

My husband and I stayed from November 1 to November 14, 2019 in room 6302. The room overlooks the pool and mountains, quiet, secluded. Room cleaning on top level. Tea and coffee sets, as well as water, were replenished daily (the staff collects used glass bottles and replaces them with new water). In the hotel bottles you will find shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap, body lotion, in boxes you will find toothbrushes, a shaving machine, a comb, shower caps, cotton swabs, and in the closet there are slippers and bathrobes. The hotel has a luxurious breakfast, including a lot of fruits, pastries, and delicious yoghurts. A massage at the hotel cost 300-400 baht (by the time we left, cheaper than on the beach), manicure - 250 baht, pedicure - 300 baht. Taxi to the airport - 700 baht. There is a shuttle from the hotel to Patong 3 times a day, 100 baht one way, 150 baht round trip. The restaurant by the sea organizes festive evenings with a show program and live music, a table for two is approximately 2500 baht. There is a pedestrian path between the hotel and the sea, to the left is the village and the 7/11 store, to the right are restaurants and cafes (I highly recommend Lilla Island). On Friday and Monday (from approximately 14 to 19 hours) there is an outdoor market near the hotel where you can buy fruits, souvenirs, delicacies, and clothes

There is a big c supermarket very close by, you can stroll along the embankment where there are a lot of cafes. The hotel restaurants serve excellent food, and the bars make conscientious cocktails. The room is cleaned perfectly. The price/quality ratio is 100%, you won’t regret it! Ideal for relaxation, no blaring music or screaming children.

On the way from the stop to the hotel there is a vacant lot and a busy highway. Sometimes room cleaning is too late. The rooms are a bit tired and there is a lack of lighting in them.

The hotel is within walking distance from the smart bus stop and Fantasea Park. There is a market across the road on Mon and Fri. Not far from the hotel there is a street with restaurants, bars, shops and massage parlors. Huge green area with 4 swimming pools, 2 restaurants, access to the sea. The hotel took into account all the wishes specified when booking. Spacious room with everything you need: kettle + tea/coffee facilities, generously replenished daily, bottled water, refrigerator, safe, toiletries in a dispenser, large shelf for storing suitcases. There is a balcony with a drying rack and a table/chairs. Strong free wifi throughout the hotel. Friendly staff who escort you to your room upon check-in and help deliver your suitcases, and also create an atmosphere of hospitality throughout your stay at the hotel. Large beach towels are available at the pool. There are various activities, for example, daily water aerobics. Varied breakfasts, large selection of fruits.

Excellent hotel on the first coastline. Nice restaurant, many swimming pools, one of which (with a bar) is open until 22-00. We lived in the second building on the third floor with a direct view of the sea (which was almost invisible due to lush vegetation). The room is spacious, all necessary accessories are provided (toothbrushes, razors, etc.), as well as an iron and ironing board. The bed is not really big and comfortable, the linen is good.

A one-stop resort for lovers paradise beaches And beautiful nature. Great for couples, young people and families with children.

A direct flight from Moscow to Phuket takes about 9 hours. The transfer lasts about 1-2 hours depending on the distance of the hotel.

Best time for holidays - from November to April. The rainy season lasts from May to November.

All Phuket beaches are sandy, with a smooth entrance to the sea. Some beaches have pronounced ebb and flow tides.

Phuket has many markets, small shops and shopping centers where you can inexpensively buy clothes, souvenirs, beach accessories, and cosmetics. Prices are higher than in Pattaya, but lower than in Krabi and Samui.

The resort has many cafes and restaurants with both Thai and European cuisine. If you wish, you can find Russian cuisine.

IN Lately Russian-speaking employees have begun to appear in hotels; in cafes you can find menus in Russian.

Hotels differ by the beach on which they are located: Patong is the noisiest and most active, Karon is the most beautiful, Kata is the most remote and secluded, Bang Tao is the most respectable.

About Thailand

The best time to holiday in Thailand is from November to the end of March. However, all months of the year, without exception, are hot, and the sea is warm. Summer is the rainy season in the country.

To travel to Thailand you only need a passport - no visa is required.

The flight from Moscow to Thailand lasts about 9 hours.

When checking in, hotel staff usually ask for a deposit for the room. The deposit amount is approximately 50 US dollars (depending on the hotel).

When purchasing a tour to Thailand, you usually choose only breakfast at the hotel. Tourists prefer to have lunch and dinner in numerous and inexpensive restaurants or a cafe.

Never drink tap water! It is better to take your medications with you; local pharmacies will only stock alternative medicine.

Like most Siberians, my husband and I love to go to Thailand, especially in winter, to warm up and take a break from the 30-degree Siberian frosts for at least a couple of weeks. There is nothing better than getting on a plane and emerging from winter and snowdrifts into a tropical paradise among palm trees, fruits and, of course, the sea. But passive relaxation on the same beach is not for us, so we set out to explore the island of Phuket, its attractions and beaches. One of the beaches we were interested in was Kamala Beach.

How to get there, where it is

The most famous and tourist beaches on the island of Phuket are located along its west coast. Each beach is located in a bay and is usually separated from neighboring ones by small mountains on both sides.

Kamala Beach is comfortably located between and Surin. Kamala is a little-known beach for Russian tourists, 20 km from Phuket airport, which has been unfairly ignored by tour operators. Most package tours include accommodation on the beaches of Patong, Karon and Kata or on the elite beaches of the northern part of the island. The people here are mainly those who travel independently or those who, like me, love to learn new things and want to explore the island.

This is exactly what we did, arriving in Phuket on a package tour and checking into a hotel on Patong Beach. We rented a car and went to explore all the beaches of Phuket, fortunately it is not difficult to do, there are signs everywhere.

Unfortunately, they didn’t give us a bike without driving experience. From the beach to Kamala it is approximately 10 kilometers or 10 minutes by car or 15 minutes by bike. The roads on the island are of very good quality, the only negative is that they are winding, so be careful.

During the tourist season, there are boats on the beach that offer for $40 (about 1,500 Thai baht) to take you to Patong and back. Some people use them instead of taxis.

In Kamala there is a bus stop (songthaew), where for $1.11 (40 baht) you can get to Phuket Town and back, but buses do not run often, once every 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately, direct message There are no such buses between the beaches on the island, but if you don’t want to spend money on a taxi, you can get there through Phuket Town. For example, from Patong Beach you get to the final destination (Phuket Town, Ranong Market), and then change to a bus to Kamala Beach. But keep in mind that one such trip will take you 40-60 minutes. Also keep in mind that buses only run until 6 pm.

You can take a taxi to Phuket Town for $17 (600 baht), and to Patong for $11 (400 baht).

For the route Kamala - airport you will be charged $17 (600 baht).

Description of the beach

When we were going to Kamala Beach, we didn’t read reviews about it, because... wanted to form their own opinion. And this is how it turned out: the beach is very clean, the sand is finer and cleaner than on the famous Patong Beach, lighter, pleasant for the feet.

The entrance to the sea is quite flat, the bottom is clean, there are no stones, shells or debris, the shallow depth lasts for a long time, which is quite comfortable for families with children, as well as for those who are afraid of big waves or do not like depth.

During waves, the water becomes cloudy with sand, but in itself it is clean. You can watch our video review of Kamala Beach below.

The beach strip is quite long, about 2 km in length and at the same time not too narrow (up to 30 meters), so you will have plenty of space. Palm trees grow along the beach. On the beach everything is quite clean and uncrowded, unlike the most popular Kata and even more so Patong.

The tourists who vacation here are mostly foreigners; we saw practically no Russians, although it was the peak of the tourist season in Thailand. So for some, this factor will be key when choosing a beach for relaxation.

Ebbs and flows

Every day there is high tide before noon, and low tide in the afternoon. In the evening the water rises again. Keep this in mind when planning your swim at Kamala Beach.

Infrastructure of Kamala Beach in Phuket, our reviews

If you come to Kamala Beach on a bike or in a rented car, there is parking here, so you will have somewhere to leave your vehicle.

When we were here in the winter at the beginning of 2014, sun loungers were still allowed, then by the end of the year, after the military coup in Thailand, sun loungers were banned on the beaches and they were forced to remove everything. The military that came to power was guided by the fact that public land should belong to the public, not private entrepreneurs, and tourists should not pay $3 (100 baht) for a sunbed. And due to the large accumulation of sun loungers on the beaches, the sea is not visible at all, the authorities wanted tourists to enjoy the pristine beauty.

After some time, in response to complaints from tourists, it was allowed to rent umbrellas to protect from the sun. But enterprising Thais took advantage of this relaxation and came up with a little trick with sun loungers. Now they rake small piles of sand and lay mattresses on them, thereby imitating sun loungers. It’s convenient for tourists, and the way to earn money has returned, and in fact the law has not been broken, because... These are not folding lounge chairs.

If you don’t want to pay for makeshift sun loungers, you can sit for free on your beach towel brought from the hotel.

There are Thai massage stalls on the beach.

Other entertainment options include a banana and a water scooter. The price for riding a scooter is $42 (1500 baht) for 30 minutes.

Behind Kamala Beach on Phuket Island is small park, where mainly local Thais relax, go jogging, exercises are also carried out in the open air, exercise equipment is installed, and a small playground is equipped for children, so if you wish, you can warm up, and for those who actively play sports in their homeland - This is a great opportunity not to fall out of your training regime.

In 2006, a memorial was erected in the park to the victims of the flood that occurred on December 26, 2004.

In front of the beach there are small stalls with fruits, drinks, boiled corn and Thai pancakes; the prices here, of course, are still touristy and higher than in neighboring Patong. For example, boiled corn, which costs $0.6-0.85 (20-30 Thai baht), now costs $1.4 (50 baht), mango, which cost $2.5 (90 baht)/kg on Karon beach, costs here 3.1$(110 baht). Coconut costs $1.7 (60 baht), and pancakes instead of the usual $0.85 (30 baht) are already $1.1 (40 baht).

Numerous souvenirs and other tourist attributes are also sold here. There are also massage parlors in Kamala, usually located on the first floors of residential buildings on the streets of the area.

There is even a post office in the Kamala area from where you can send a postcard or parcel to your family and friends. You can find the post office by the red sign: Kamala Counter Service Post. There are no queues here, so sending a postcard to my homeland did not take me much time.

You can also find exchangers on Kamala Beach, not as many as on more popular beaches (so it’s better to change there), but you still have the opportunity to exchange money.

Kamala is a quiet area where mainly local people live.

If, for example, on the beaches of Patong and Karon, all housing is mainly rented out to visitors, and Thais go to these areas only to work, then on the contrary, mostly locals live here. There are also Muslims among them. There are not as many of them as in the neighboring Surin region, but nevertheless, on the streets of Kamala you can easily meet a woman in a hijab, and do not be surprised if she is on a motorbike.

By the way, you can walk to neighboring Surin from Kamala Beach. True, this is quite dangerous, because... You need to walk along the highway in the complete absence of sidewalks. But we were in a car, so we didn’t take any risks to get there on foot.

Also from Kamala Beach it is very close to the famous Phuket show - Phuket Fantasea. This is a colorful costumed national performance of Prince Kamala, accompanied by acrobatic stunts, illusionists and elephant performances.

Accommodation on Kamala Beach

There are only about 70 hotels on Kamala Beach, which is why it is not overloaded with vacationers.

There are no hotels in the northern part of the beach, as well as no passage; you can only get here on foot.

Compared to the beaches in the north, Kamala Beach hotels in Phuket and apartments (you can even find up to $280 equivalent to 10,000 baht per month) in Kamala are relatively inexpensive.

The average hotels on Kamala Beach are resorts located on the hills surrounding the beach, or at a sufficient distance from beach line. Such hotels offer a quiet family vacation, and average prices for accommodation in them range from $100 per night and above.

Here you will not find hotels with their own beach, because... All beaches in Phuket are public. And a hotel from which you can more or less quickly get to the sea, leaving your room immediately in a bathing suit - Kamala Beach Resort, he’s the only one here, the cost of living starts from $200 per night.

One of the most popular hotels is Kamala Resort & SPA 4*. It is located by the road on the very outskirts of Kamala Beach on Phuket Island from Patong Beach, a 15-minute walk to the sea, but it is considered to have a fairly good location in relation to shops and the market, as well as excellent rooms with a kitchen. The hotel consists of 4 buildings, is located quite conveniently, there is free parking for cars and bikes. There are restaurants, a massage parlor, and a gym. The cost of a room, for example, in high season in February is $75 (2700 baht) per night.

Of the 3*, the quite famous Sungthong Hotel Kamala Beach 3*.

At the end of the beach on the hill there is the famous Novotel 4* hotel, the cost of a night's stay in which starts from $85 (3000 baht). The section of the beach owned by this hotel is considered the calmest; there are almost never waves here. It is often chosen by families with children, because... It's quite shallow here.

Not far from the Fantasy show there are quite good hotels, for example, Moom – Tuk, Dengs Kamala Beach Resort

One of budget hotels– The Mareeya Place 2*.

Alternatively, you can rent an apartment in a condominium 600-800 meters from the beach, for example, in Kamala Regent

Such houses have a common gym, swimming pool and recreation areas. Prices from $55 (1950 baht/day.

Among the recommended ones in the closest possible proximity to the sea are: Kamala Beachfront Apartment, Grace resort, Coconut Garden. You can book at Booking.com, but you can check if there are better prices somewhere.

Where to eat, prices

In addition to the above-mentioned trays or macarons from which you can buy tangerines, mangoes, pineapples, small bananas, mangosteens, dragon fruit, coconuts, and many, many other fruits and cocktails, you can have a full meal in local restaurants. We stopped at one of these establishments at the entrance to the beach - this open cafe, where tables are set up under a canopy, there are many locals here. The food came out pretty quickly and we loved it! Tom yum soup costs $4.2 (150 baht).

A cafe can also be found at the end of Kamala Beach, if you go towards Surin, where the sand strip becomes quite narrow.

If you like to go to local shops and buy food to cook yourself, then a small supermarket Big C will be a great find for you on Kamala Beach. This is the only full-fledged supermarket in the beach area of Phuket Island; all other super and hypermarkets are located in the Phuket area. town. And on other beaches, tourists are content with only standard minimarkets 7/11 (there is one on Kamala) and Famaly Mart. In Big C you will find fruits, vegetables, dairy products, as well as many non-food products. Another minimarket on Kamala Beach is Tesco Lotus.

You can also buy local food at the market. It can be found if you go down behind the Kamala Resort & SPA hotel.

The market is aimed more at locals, unlike the markets in Kata or Karon, where everything is only for tourists. Here you will not find a single English inscription; you will have to choose only by eye. But you can be sure that if locals buy food here, then you can rest assured about its freshness and quality.

Prices at the market are good, for example, longan costs $0.85-1.1 (30-40 baht) per kilogram, for 3 peeled small pineapples they ask for $1.1 (40 baht), petahaya (dragon fruit) - 2.2 $ (80 baht) per kilogram, cherry tomatoes – $2.8 (100 baht)/kg.

Also on the market there are clothes and cosmetics that are no longer aimed at local residents. This market operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Area Kamala Beach we really liked it. It is quiet, calm, everything you need for a comfortable stay. But this beach is definitely not suitable for those who are looking for active rest, night parties - for all this you need to go to neighboring Patong. Everything here is for relaxation. It is also believed that this beach has some of the most beautiful sunsets in Phuket. Be sure to check it out for yourself;) To avoid disappointment, plan to visit Kamala Phuket beach in December-February - during the highest and calmest season in terms of waves and study the reviews.
