Why you need to go to Batumi

Since you have opened this article, you have probably already decided why you need Georgia. Let me remind you - the sea, beaches, fruits, wine, Borjomi, people, a beautiful city and attractions.

What time of year is the best to visit Batumi

- These are subtropics. The best time to relax is mid-spring - early summer and early autumn - mid-September - late October. From November the weather can deteriorate, it rains, and it gets cool in the evening. At the height of summer, the city is literally swarming with tourists, prices reaching a rather unpleasant maximum.

Is it safe to travel to Georgia alone?

Today I do not know a safer country than Georgia, out of more than 50 countries that I have visited, Georgia- one of the safest countries in the world. Pah-pah so as not to jinx it. IN Georgia in general, and in Batiumi in particular, you can travel alone quite calmly, even if you are young and beautiful. If you don’t specifically look for adventure, you are guaranteed nothing will happen to you.

How to buy cheap air flights to Georgia

You can buy air tickets to Batumi directly on the airlines’ website, but it’s more convenient and profitable to take advantage of flight offers Kyiv, an aggregator that I use myself. The service offers the most advantageous offers, including on low-cost flights - you just have to choose the best by price, departure time or airline.

Transport connections between Batumi and Tbilisi

If time permits, in addition to the surrounding area, you can visit Tbilisi and whatever else you have time for nearby. Georgia the country is small, getting from to Tbilisi you can do it in several ways and for little money.

Railroad is the most comfortable way

"... there are several Tbilisi-Batumi trains - morning express, evening express and night train. Tickets can be bought on the Georgian Railways website, ticket price is 10-15 dollars depending on the type of train. The site is available in three languages, everything is intuitive - you'll figure it out, I'm sure.

For reference: previously the railway station was only in the suburb of Batumi - Makhinjauri, now it is located directly in Batumi, Central business center

If you are interested in a beach holiday, you can live in the neighboring resort village of Kobuleti, and come to Batumi for a walk and cultural relaxation. You can read about beach hotels and guest houses in Kobuleti in the article The most popular beach budget hotels in Kobuleti - it was published on our new resource dedicated to housing.

Pfirst steps in Batumi

You will save time and money if you start by going to the Batumi information center. They will help you with almost all issues - girls can even be married off, if they wish, of course. At a minimum, you can take a card, despite the fact that you have a smartphone and new technologies, paper cards will not be superfluous. There is an information center at the airport and in the center of Batumi. Maps and tips are free!

Taxis from the airport are available around the clock, you can and should bargain, there are many taxi drivers. The fare is 12-20 GEL.

The currency of Georgia is Lari. 1 dollar is equal to 2.46 lari, 1 euro is 2.70 lari

"... and no dollars or euros, only local currency is used in Georgia; exchange offices are everywhere, you can change both in the city and at the airport - the rate is not very different.

Ttransport locations in Batumi

Airport

Train Station- trains to Tbilisi and suburbs

City bus station and Tbilisi square, from here you can go by minibus to all ends Georgia and to some places in Turkey. I will not dwell in detail on minibuses, they are not the best type of transport in Georgia, try to look for other transfer options - taxi, rented car, organized tour.

Main city attractions in Batumi

The most impressive new buildings are located near Batumi Primorsky Boulevard, the boulevard itself is also the main attraction of Batumi. Parallel to him - Rustaveli street.

Alphabet Tower, the building of the Institute of Technology, various metal installations, singing fountains, the Radisson Hotel, and finally, a building in the shape of an inverted bottle - the House of Justice on the outskirts.

... there is no point in listing everything. ...walk and admire... in the evening all this is enhanced by lighting, which I remembered, despite the evening gatherings in Batumi...

Berth, near him the famous statue Love, it looks cool in the evening lighting.

Seaside Park, we lived very close to him. Singing Fountains and unusual Batumi registry office in the form of a pig.

If you move deeper Old town, can see churches of all faiths buildings from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, many architectural styles. I won’t list them - this is a good reason to walk around, look and be impressed. Be sure to go through Abashidze street– the heart of old Batumi. However, you can find several similar streets.

Beautiful European Square, Medea statue, watch And fountain. Lots of unusual facades. Worth finding Batumi Governor's building– freshly restored and very beautiful.

Family and children's entertainment - dolphinarium, aquarium, Ferris wheel, cable car.

I recommend renting a bicycle for both adults and children; this can be done throughout the center of Batumi. The city has simply luxurious red bike paths that run along the sea and along the most beautiful streets. Two or three hours is just right.

In the evening - the most main attraction of Batumi - sunset, it sets over the sea and is a spectacle worthy of spending an hour and a half on this movie.

What to see in the vicinity of Batumi

Waterfall Makhuntseti

About an hour on the Batumi-Keda minibus and here it is Adjarian nature, which is not very visible from the city beaches - a 20-meter waterfall that fills the Adzharistskali River with the purest mountain water. I still recommend getting there by car or renting a taxi, possibly with a local guide, or a minibus - as a last resort and very budget option.

Five minutes from the waterfall there is a unique arched Makhuntseti stone bridge, don’t forget about it - it’s beautiful and fits very organically into the natural landscape.

On the way to the waterfall there is a famous Adzharistskhali wine house, this place is mainly taken to tourists who have bought excursion to the waterfall in city agencies.

Racha

A mountainous region that can be visited if you have enough time. The journey from Batumi with return will take two days, with an overnight stay. For the trip you need a jeep, which you can rent from one of the agencies, or buy a ready-made tour. Rachu Locals call it Georgian Switzerland - in addition to nature, there is an ancient monastery and caves. The place is located very close to the town of Oni.

IN Rachu you can stop by if you arrived in Kutaisi, spend the whole day there with an overnight stay and go to.

Accommodation options in the village of Oni (Racha)

The village has a tourist infrastructure; you can choose accommodation on the Hotels Combined website (roomguru) - hotels and guest houses in the village of Oni (Oni) .

Mtirala National Park

Chakvistavi village, Chakvi municipality, western part of the Adjara-Imereti ridge. A place where you can spend the whole day - mountain rivers, forest, cycling, waterfall. There is little information about the park - just select it in your GPS or on a paper map, get in the car and go. You can also buy a tour or arrange with the locals to take you and show you around. There is no need to spend the night, one day is enough.

How to get there: from Batumi you can get to the village of Chakvi by minibus (from Tbilisi Square), then by taxi for about an hour. It’s better to travel on your own in a rented car or with an excursion from Batumi.

The tourist office is located in the village of Chakvi on Chavchavadze street, 13

Gonio-Apsaros Fortress

... but let me not advise everyone to waste time on it. Only for those who are very interested in history... the remains of the foundation and the fortress wall are overgrown with grass in places. In my opinion, it’s better to go to another bar in Batumi and chat with the locals - you’ll learn more.

Botanical Garden

Located on the outskirts, you can get there by taxi - $10 or by minibus No. 13 from Tbilisi Square. You can also stop by the Botanical Garden on the road from.

Sea in Batumi

The best beaches in Batumi and its surroundings

is a fairly large city, and it’s also a port. I must admit that the sea here is not the cleanest in the surrounding area, although it is much cleaner than, for example, in Odessa. If locals swim within the city limits, it is only until lunchtime, then the current changes the water from clean to not always clean.

IN Butumi the cleanest sea in the area ferris wheels. The beaches are large-pebble and it will not be very convenient for children there. Batumi, after all, is a place about a city holiday, not a beach one. The best beaches are in the surrounding area, some are very close, 10 km away. from Batumi.

Lbest beaches near Batumi

Gonio and Kvariati

...only 10 km. from Batumi towards Turkey, this place is loved by locals and those who prefer a quiet family vacation... there is no entertainment other than the sea and the sound of the surf... it’s also better to take food with you, but everything else is the highest rating!

Food. Where to buy groceries in Batumi

Near Tbilisi square there are market streets where you can buy everything - vegetables, fruits, pita bread, cheese, etc. Prices for local products are lower than in Kyiv. There is also a Goodwill supermarket near Tbilisi Square - it has everything, the prices are the same as in Kyiv, it is open around the clock. It is better to buy only wine in the supermarket; I recommend rose Saperavi and Kindzmarauli if you like sweet wines.

Where to eat in Batumi. Cafes and restaurants

Bar "Eredeli", near Europe Square

Old House, this is the number one cafe for us; here we tried almost everything that can be prepared in Adjara, drank several liters of wine and paid a symbolic 30 dollars for three. A memorable place, although given the amount of wine, there should have been no memory. Borjomi will help you in the morning!
address: Gorgiladze Street 29

Cafe Laguna, st. Gorgiladze Street, 18

Cafe Literary, K. Gamsakhurdia st., 18– delicious khachapuri and desserts

Cafe Izbushka, near Tbilisi Square on Chavchavadze Street - very inexpensive and very tasty, very tasty, be sure to order the kebab.

Meal format for a budget traveler: You shouldn’t completely give up cafes; after all, Georgian cuisine is one of the reasons why you need to go to Georgia. Cook it yourself, buy food from the market and alternate it with going to a cafe, only bottled wine, homemade wine is not always good, try it.
. Prices have long dropped to European levels, the roads are excellent, and the distances allow you not to get tired while driving. There are many car rental resources. I settled on a site that specializes in local local rental offices and has proven itself well - Myrentacar.com. I recommend it - there is only a 15% prepayment and there are no crazy deposits.

In most cases, an ordinary passenger car is sufficient; where an SUV is needed, you can always use the services of local residents - it’s inexpensive, from 10 to 50 dollars, depending on time and distance.

Latest reports on my page

Every year a huge number of tourists come to Batumi to enjoy the warmth and soak up the hot sand. But besides the water surface, the resort has other entertainment, as they say, for every taste and budget.

Not everyone is able to sit on the beach from morning until late evening, sunbathing and swimming in the sea.

By the way, in Batumi itself there is also a “winter reminder” - built not so long ago Ice Palace. Sometimes figure skating competitions or hockey matches take place within its walls.

We will not classify and list all the variety of restaurants and cafes in the city as entertainment, especially since there is a separate article on this topic. And most of all, you probably already read about it before.

In this article, we decided to collect the most popular and interesting entertainment, sorting them by category and attractiveness in our subjective opinion.

Cultural entertainment

When you get a little tired of lying around or have a lot of free time, we advise you to immerse yourself in the culture of this wonderful resort, namely, go (at least for fun) to the theater, museum or the Center for Music and Art. We are sure that you will be satisfied and will not regret your choice.

Theaters and cinema "Apollo" in Batumi

There are few theaters in the city: Drama, Summer, Opera and Puppet Theater (we will talk about it below, in the section). Each of them is interesting, beautiful and modern in its own way.

Drama Theater located at: st. Rustaveli, 1, next to (almost in the city center). The building is regularly repaired, maintaining its presentable appearance. And in itself it cannot but cause admiration. Performances in the theater are held regularly on weekends. Foreign artists with unusual premieres are frequent guests there. Ticket price is approx. 8 – 10 GEL GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
8 lari = 2.65 euros;
8 lari = 3.04 dollars;
8 lari = 201.76 rubles;
8 lari = 85.12 hryvnia;
8 lari = 6.8 Belarusian rubles.
. It is worth considering that the performances are performed in Georgian.

The Batumi summer theater looks especially beautiful and unusual in the evening when the lights turn on.

Summer Theater located on the central embankment of the city, next to the Colonnade. This is a new building, made of wood, although built in the manner of its predecessor, which burned down in 2001. The theater is especially beautiful in the evening. We recommend attending one of the theater's performances and admiring its interior decoration.

Operatic or, as it is commonly called, the Center for Music and Art welcomes guests and residents of Batumi at the address: st. Odyssey Dimitriadi, 1, across the road from the embankment. The original building opened not so long ago, in 2011. It hosts a variety of concerts, performances, and performances by music and dance groups.

In fact, the Center for Music and Art is a House of Culture. The inside of the building is incredibly beautiful, more like a modern opera house. Performances are held in Russian. There are fountains in front of the House of Culture (as well as on the first floor of the building). In the evening, they illuminate beautifully and shimmer in the rays of the setting sun. And the building of the Center for Music and Art was included in the top five most unusual theaters. We recommend you take a look!

In details Read about the Batumi Opera House in our separate article.

Find cinema "Apollo" will not pose any problems, because it is located almost in the center of Batumi, in its old part, on the street. Memed Abashidze, 17 (not far from the astronomical clock tower). There is only one hall, small, but there is always room. Films often come with Russian dubbing, so if you are a fan of new films, you won’t miss anything. The main part of these entertainments is located in the area, not far from the registry office and singing fountains. During a tour of mountainous Adjara you will see many interesting and unusual things. For example, the place where two rivers merge - Chorokhi and Adzharistskhali.

A second impressive excursion awaits you during trips around mountainous Adjara. In this case, we recommend using the services of a convenient, comfortable car with a separate driver, who in 8 hours will show you all the most important and interesting sights of the region (and a couple of lesser-known, but quite interesting places). The cost of the trip is 139 euros for two + 15 euros for each additional person.

More detailed information about the trip to mountainous Adjara is in our article:

The park provides routes for independent tourists (for a couple of days). You can get there by bus to Chakvi and then by taxi or organized excursion. We do not recommend the last option. Our friend, who traveled this way with her son, was very dissatisfied with the quality of service.

If you miss sandy beaches or want to heal a little (many believe that black magnetic sand has a positive effect on the musculoskeletal and cardiovascular systems), go to Ureki. To do this, just click in the upper right corner (on the rectangle) of the map. For a more detailed look, you can roll the mouse wheel. Pay attention to the icons: each of them is signed. For convenience, unnecessary layers (designations) can be hidden by unchecking the extra checkbox on the left on the enlarged map.

We add stopping points when ordering online. They travel all over Georgia, including long distances. For example, from Batumi to Kutaisi to the canyons or Svaneti.

Rent a Car without driver

Excursions. Cheap on the boulevard, there are people with signs. Individual with professional guides at georgia4travel. Popular trips: to the canyons in Kutaisi, Machakhela National Park with a feast, Mountain Adjara.

If you need to choose just one or two excursions to see nature and feel the color, I recommend these group excursions: (overview of Batumi + mountains + Georgian lunch + Georgian cuisine master class), Machakhela with dancing and Georgian feast.

What to see near Kobuleti?

▫ Tea plantations and orange orchards Most of Georgia's tea plantations are located near Kobuleti.

The problem is that tea from these plantations is more expensive than imported tea, so now many plantations are being cut down and planted with citrus trees, which are easier to maintain.

I heard similar stories about how they plant hazelnuts instead of tea, which are even more profitable to sell than oranges.

Sights of Batumi

Map of Batumi attractions in Russian at the end of the post, marked all the points there.

1. Sculpture “Ali and Nino”

One of the symbols of Batumi is moving 8-meter statues telling the story of the love of Ali and Nino. The author of this sculpture is Tamara Kvesitadze, and the opening took place in 2011.

The story of the lovers is described in a book of the same name, the authorship of which is not precisely established. The plot is briefly as follows: a descendant of a noble Azerbaijani family, Ali, falls in love with the daughter of a Georgian prince, Nino. But their faith becomes an obstacle, because the guy was a Muslim and the girl was a Christian, and their parents forbade them to be together. This whole story is reflected in the composition: sculptures of a man and a woman either converge or diverge, merging at one moment. we stood and watched this action for several minutes, spellbound. It looks especially beautiful in the evening when everything is illuminated.

2. Batumi Seaside Park

The famous landmark of Batumi was founded in 1881 by famous foreign gardeners of that time. Nowadays the boulevard is usually divided into old and new parts: the old part is approximately from the seaport to the singing fountain, and everything to the south is the new boulevard. There are cafes, restaurants, children's and sports grounds on the territory, and you can get to the beach at any time. It is very pleasant to stroll along the palm trees in the evening and breathe the sea breeze. Great place!

3. Cable car "Argo"

One of the most popular entertainments in Batumi is to ride a cable car to a nearby mountain with an observation deck from where you can see the entire city. The cable car is considered the longest in Europe (2600 meters, and the height is as much as 250 meters). From the cabin you can look at Batumi from above - a cool sight! I advise you to come here in the evening, when the sun is setting, then the photos will turn out well. In the evening, performances with Georgian dances and songs are also held upstairs, and the restaurant is open throughout the day.

7. Summer theater

The Summer Theater is located right on Batumi Boulevard - it is an elegant building, but for some reason without windows. It reopened after reconstruction in 2013, the old one burned down. White ceremonial colonnades are installed in Batumi Boulevard, the same ones stand at the entrance to the park on May 6. Previously, this was a kind of gateway to the embankment.

9. Wedding Palace

In Georgia, they support the endeavors of young people. So this building was built according to the design of a young Georgian architect in the shape of a dolphin, although we did not immediately understand what it was;-) Nevertheless, it is a beautiful and unusual building, where you can really get married both day and night. True, the documents will be valid only in Georgia. The cost of the ceremony is 150 GEL.

Although Batumi was considered a famous beach resort back in Soviet times, it acquired its modern attractive appearance as a result of the intensive construction of skyscrapers and new hotels in the period 2005-2010. A wonderful beach holiday there can be combined with interesting excursions, as it has an ancient history, and the city of Batus has been mentioned in ancient Greek sources since the 4th century BC. e. This article will tell you what to see in Batumi and its surroundings.

Cable car

To see some of the sights of Batumi and the surrounding area from a bird's eye view, it is worth using the observation deck, to which the trailer reaches in 10 minutes, you can see the port, the mountains of Adjara, as well as remarkable buildings in the old and new parts of the city.

Valid seven days a week from 09:00 to 22:00. Ticket price for adults is 10 GEL (round trip), and for children - 6 GEL.

Gvara Fortress

Considering the historical sights of Batumi and the surrounding area, one cannot fail to mention this building dating back to the Roman period. The ruins of the ancient citadel are located on a hill, 300 m from the confluence of the Machakhlistkali and Chorokh rivers. Several walls 5-6 m high have survived to this day. Researchers have proven that the fortress was built in the 5-6 centuries AD and served defensive functions until the 14th century. It was of great strategic importance and protected access to the Black Sea.

Alphabet Tower

The location of this new attraction of Batumi and the surrounding area is Ninoshvili Street. It was built in order to perpetuate the Georgian alphabet. The tower looks a bit like a DNA helix with letters on it. This 130 m high structure is especially beautiful when illuminated at night, and at its top there is a revolving Thai restaurant.

Waterpark Batumi

There is a water park on the vast territory of the Euro Park hotel complex, which is located at the intersection of Sheriff Khimshiashvili and Kobaladze streets.

The price for a full day of visiting it is 30 GEL in August and 25 GEL in June and July (2016 data).

The price includes the use of mattresses, slides and sun loungers. Storage cabinets and changing rooms are available to visitors.

Medea statue

As you know, several thousand years ago the Argonauts sailed to Colchis for the Golden Fleece. In memory of this, a high stele was installed on the main square of Batumi, on top of which there is a statue of Princess Medea with the Golden Fleece.

Fountain Neptune

Those who see a photo of this landmark in Batumi and the surrounding area think that it depicts one of the decorations of some European capital. The fact is that the fountain is made in the Baroque style and harmonizes perfectly with the building of the local Drama Theater. Its composition combines five fragments, and in the center, on a high pedestal, at the corners of which there are figures of mermaids, a gilded statue of Neptune is erected. The fountain is a copy of the sculpture that adorns the historical center of the Italian city of Bologna.

Sculpture "Love"

People call this monument “Ali and Nino”, since the sculptor Tamar Kvestidze created it under the impression of the novel of the same name by Kurban Said. It is located at the entrance to the city and is moving, as every 10 minutes the figures move towards each other. When "Ali" and "Nino" meet, they become one and then move in opposite directions again.

Botanical Garden

When talking about the sights of Batumi and the surrounding area (see photo above), one cannot fail to mention the huge green area located in the village of Cape Verde. This one of the world's largest botanical gardens covers an area of 110 hectares, and was founded more than 120 years ago. The richest collection of plants growing there is distributed according to the principle of the Gardens of Babylon. In the upper tier of the park area you can see Himalayan endemics, and at the foot - the Mediterranean flora. Large areas of the Botanical Garden are dedicated to the subtropics of Transcaucasia, North American and Australian vegetation, the Mexican Hill, etc. Thus, while studying Batumi and the surrounding area, you can make a kind of mini-trip through several climatic zones of our planet.

National Museum of Adjara

This is one of the largest cultural institutions in the country, occupies a building built by architect Kakha Javakhishvili in 1949 (address: Zurab Gorgiladze St., 8). The museum presents 5 main exhibitions: ancient Georgian, Russian, Western European, Soviet and Oriental art. The pride of his collection are paintings by Russian realist artists of the 20th century.

Best and surroundings

Although there is no shortage of vacationers in the city during the holiday season, everyone can find a “place in the sun” to sunbathe and indulge in water activities.

Most Batumi beaches are pebble. The main one is located within the city. Recently it has been called in the European manner - “Batumi Beach”. It has a developed infrastructure. The beach itself stretches for 6 km. There are changing cabins, as well as rental points for sunbeds and umbrellas. There are many restaurants and cafes in the immediate vicinity of Batumi Beach. For entertainment, vacationers can enjoy banana boat rides, water skiing and catamarans. Every night there are discos hosted by guest DJs. The entrance to the water at Batumi Beach is smooth, which makes it a suitable place for families with small children.

Another popular beach, Sarapi, is located in the vicinity of Batumi. It has umbrellas and sun loungers, sofas and hammocks, as well as cafes and bars. At the same time, there is less entertainment there than on the main beach of the resort, so it is less crowded.

There are also beaches in Ureki, Gonio and Kvariati where you can go diving.

Dolphinarium

At 51 Rustaveli Street in the resort there is another entertainment venue that is definitely worth a visit, especially if you come to the resort with children. The Batumi Dolphinarium is located on the outskirts of the 6 May Park and its performances involve 8 dolphins and 4 seals. Sessions start at 16:00 and 19:00 (on Monday - only at 16:00). Ticket price is 15-20 GEL.

Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary

On Chavchavadze Street (building 25) there is one of the main Christian churches of the city. Guests of Batumi are often confused by the Gothic appearance of the cathedral. In fact, it was originally built as a church. The main decoration of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary is its luxurious stained glass windows.

Now you know what to see in Batumi and its surroundings in the summer, so you won’t get bored while relaxing at this resort, which is considered one of the best in Transcaucasia.
