Cape Promthep or Promthep Cape is known as an observation deck and the southernmost part of Phuket island, located between Rawai and Yanui beaches.

The panoramic views from this observation deck are not as large as, for example, the views that can be seen from the Big Buddha Temple or from the Karon Kata observation deck, but what you see from Promtepa undoubtedly deserves special attention. these views are the brightest, most colorful and some of the most picturesque in Phuket.

Conventionally, Promthep can be called a kind of complex and is divided into two levels, the upper one, where there is a large and landscaped square with monuments and attractions located on it, and the lower one, which actually represents Cape Promthep extending into the sea.
There is a parking lot near the observation deck, and on the opposite side of the road there are a row of shops selling drinks, ice cream, snacks, fruits, souvenirs and other small things.

Having passed through the conventional “entrance gate”, we find ourselves on the observation deck. There are places to relax, a gazebo and an interesting sculpture.
From this point there are colorful picturesque views. On one side you can see Yanui Beach and part of Nai Harn Beach, and from the sea you can see small islands and snow-white yachts swaying freely on the waves.
If you wish, you can see all this beauty through these binoculars installed around the perimeter of the site.
There are paths running through the territory, walking along which the same beautiful views open up, only slightly from different angles and perspectives.
Having climbed a small staircase, we move to the second platform - Phra Prom Square. The square is decorated with an altar, around which there are a large number of elephants of different sizes and colors,

and a lighthouse-like building (Prompthep Cape Lighthouse). You can go inside the lighthouse, there is a museum there. During our visit to Cape Promthep, the entrance to the lighthouse was closed, so, unfortunately, we were not able to see the exhibits of the museum.
In addition to the attractions, on this, the highest platform of the Promtep complex, there are places for recreation. From this point there are also picturesque views of the Andaman Sea and the surrounding area.
Having descended below, we find ourselves there, for which most tourists come to the southernmost point of Phuket - Cape Promthep, a narrow protrusion of land extending into the sea waters, because this protrusion is the southernmost point of Phuket.

By public transport and on foot
The beaches of Rawai, Yanui and Nai Harn can be easily reached on foot in 30-40 minutes.
From Nai Harn and Yanui beaches, following the sea line. The distance from Yanui beach is 800 meters, from Nai Harn beach a little more than 3 kilometers.
From Rawai Beach, the closest way is from the intersection in the southern part of the beach (landmark - Rawai Palm Beach Resort Hotel), then along road 4233, you can also take road 3047, but it will take a little longer.

From other beaches of the island via Phuket Town by public bus “Phuket - Rawai - Nai Harn”. It is better to get off at the very end of Rawai beach, as soon as the songthaew passes the beach. Next, at the intersection, turn left onto road 4233 and follow it straight to the cape.
From Kata and Karon beaches It’s easier and faster to take the songteo “Phuket Town - Kata - Karon” to the Chalong ring, where you change to the bus “Phuket Town - Rawai - Nai Harn”, get off at the southern part of Rawai beach, and then continue along the route described above.
From Kata Noi Beach walk or drive to Kata beach, the distance is approximately 1 kilometer. And then, just like from Kata Beach.
We finally arrived at Promthep Cape in Phuket. This is a place where it is incredibly beautiful, where the landscapes hold your gaze, and the views open up such that you don’t want to leave here for a very long time. Cape Promthep (Promthep Cape) independently under its own power
Everything remains unchanged for us. We don't use a bike. Therefore, we went on foot to Cape Promthep. On the way to the cape we met many people in sportswear. Although at first they thought that we were the only ones so hardy who made it to the cape on foot.
The road here is winding, but walking, despite the fact that it is uphill, is not at all difficult. The climb is only 500 meters and not very steep. We made several stops along the way to catch our breath and admire the views.
There is only a little time left until the destination. Literally every 2-3 minutes we stopped to take photographs as a souvenir and admire from above the Yanui beach and the uninhabited island in the distance.

The beach is located in the south of Phuket island, near Cape Promthep. You can approach it from either side of Route 4233. You will need to park your vehicle along the road or at the Lighthouse (there is parking here), then go down the mountain.

What to see in Phuket if it’s a cloudy and non-beach day? It's time to see the beauty of the island from above. Promthep Cape is located in the south of Phuket and is easily accessible from Chalong, Rawai and Naiharn areas. In addition to beautiful views, there are several more Thai wonders: an altar of the god Brahma with a hundred elephants, a lighthouse with a golden dome and a monument to a Thai prince. Cape Promthep is also called Sunset View Point. Tourists are brought here every evening so that they can appreciate the beauty of the sunset over the Andaman Sea.
Finding Cape Promthep is not difficult. It is located in the very south of the island between the villages of Rawai and Naiharn. Both beaches are literally 5 minutes away by bike or car. Near the observation deck there is a parking lot, a small market with souvenirs and several restaurants.
During the day there are not many people at the observation deck of Cape Promtep. In a couple of hours, closer to sunset, there will be nowhere for the apple to fall, because Sunset View Point is the main platform for contemplating the sunset.
A little to the left is the main part of the cape, on which the main attractions are located. This is the altar of the god Brahma.
Near the altar there are hundreds of elephants of different sizes, colors and shapes. Thais decorate their figurines brightly to appease the gods. According to legend, if you bring a wooden elephant here, the god Brahma will fulfill your deepest desire.
Elephants as a gift are just flowers. Just remember the cave buried on Pranang beach in the neighboring province of Krabi.
Here are two more interesting buildings. On the left is a monument to the Thai Prince Chumphon. Thais idolize their rulers and consider them almost gods in the flesh. They celebrate the birthdays of the king and queen throughout the country, holding parades, concerts and feasts in even the smallest towns and villages. Remember my post about Krabi?
The building on the right in the photo is a lighthouse with a dome made of pure gold and a small museum inside. To enter it, you need to take off your shoes and run barefoot on the hot tiles.

From there you have a 360 degree view.
The observation deck is fenced from the rock with a small parapet. But in fact, the slope is not so steep and you can climb over the fence to take a photo with the sea in the background.

Cape Promthep is considered one of the best points in the world to admire the sunset. That's why so many tourists and wedding processions flock to this viewpoint at the southern tip of Phuket, and why the landscape is so popular on Thailand's postcards. Among local residents there is another name for Cape Promtep: “Cape of God”. They believe that this place is protected by higher powers from the tsunami.
From a high platform you can not only view the surroundings: there is a temple for prayer, a museum, restaurants, massage and active entertainment. Next door there are clothing and farmers' markets.
What to see
You can explore the surrounding area from a wide two-tier veranda, where shopping and tourist life is in full swing, as well as from the more secluded “Windmill” platform. Exotic sights and smells whet the appetite, which is easily satisfied in the nearby fish restaurants with foreign names.
At the top of the mountain stands a lighthouse framed by a golden dome. It fully justifies its name “Golden Jubilee Lighthouse”, since it was indeed built for the half-century anniversary of the reign of King Bhumipol the Great, and its top was gilded as a sign of respect for the crowned person. There is a local history museum here, telling about the cape and the lighthouse itself. But what’s worth climbing to the lighthouse for is the panoramic view of Phuket and the nearby islands and beaches. In honor of Asian traditions, you should remove your shoes when entering the museum. Inside you can buy souvenirs in a tiny shop.
Near the lighthouse on Cape Promthep, a temple founded in honor of the god Brahma opened its gates. There are so many large and small elephant figures around him that you could never see in a lifetime! Decorated statues made of stone and wood literally filled the territory of the complex: the avenues say that there are at least a thousand of them there!
Walk to the sea
From Cape Promthep roads lead down to the sea. You can walk there and disconnect from the tourist bustle along the way. For steep descents with crumbling rocks, sturdy sandals or sneakers are suitable. You should also remember that there is a way up, so it is better to stock up on strength, as well as time before sunset.
