Cape Formentor (Mallorca): photos and reviews. Cape Formentor, Mallorca, Spain – beach, hotel and photos What to look for

We are already on the 3rd day on the island, and from today we rent a car and decide to start small: go to the opposite part of the island of Mallorca: to Cape Formentor. 🙂

But that will come a little later. And in the morning, as usual, we have breakfast and water and solar treatments on the beach of our hotel.

At 11 o'clock the owner of the rental office should come to us to draw up a rental agreement with us and give us the keys and the car. Details of car rental in Mallorca and, in particular, in Magaluf are described in detail in.

And here I will briefly repeat that renting a car cost us 200E for 8 days or 25E per day). This is with full insurance.

11.55. So we became the owners of a blue Fiat Panda. Mileage 61361 km.

Well, now you can hit the road! Having wandered a little around our Magaluf and neighboring Palma Nova, we get onto the highway. In the Palma area we are unable to bypass the city, and we end up directly in the capital of the island, Palma de Mallorca.

We decide to take a short car excursion along the embankment. We admire the port and huge ships. After some time, we leave the city, find the right road and head towards Formentor.

What to feed Panda?

But here an unexpected problem arises. We were given the car with an almost empty tank, and very soon she began to complain about the lack of gasoline. But along the highway we could not find a single (!) gas station.

12.50. We're passing by Inca city. We decide to leave the highway in the hope that we can find a gas station in the city. Our intuition was correct: right at the entrance we were able to feed our Panda. Well, at the same time, myself: there was a supermarket nearby. 🙂

13.30. After Inca we decide to turn to Pollenca, and from there we go to Formetor. All the way we are touched by such calm and harmonious rural landscapes. Everything around is green, everything pleases the eye.

Mirador del Colomer observation deck

14.05. We drove up to the Formentor observation deck.

Beautiful steep cliffs about 300 meters high, blue deep sea.

Occasionally boats sail along the sea surface.

The panoramas are wonderful. Each frame can be printed immediately.

Everything is very beautiful. But somehow there is no feeling of delight and flight, as many reviews say. Perhaps this is some kind of personal condition. Maybe on the first day we were not yet fully prepared to relax...

There are many tourist buses in the small parking lot, their passengers scurrying back and forth. And I want peace and quiet. We decide that it is the tourist crowds that are preventing us from enjoying nature.

Near the parking lot we notice a small narrow road leading somewhere upward. We ask the Russian guide where it leads. He answers that to some ancient watchtower. You can see it from the parking lot; it seems very small and very far away.

Ancient watchtower

14.45. We decide to climb up a small serpentine road to the watchtower. Along the way, equally impressive views open up from the other side of Cape Formentor.

There are very few people at the top. We go up to the ancient tower Talaia d'Albercutx, on which it is written that it was built in the 16th century.

The path is not easy: the path leads along large boulders, and there are also sharp stones underfoot. But the goal ahead allows you not to think about obstacles.

Up close, the tower turns out to be simply huge! It has metal handrails. I decide to climb up.

It's unexpectedly cool inside and has amazing acoustics. I rise even higher, to the very top. This is the height! 390 meters above sea level. From here you have an amazing view of all the surroundings below. Silence, only the sound of the wind can be heard...

Some kind of military base is clearly visible, although it looks more like a UFO landing site. 🙂

And the view of Cape Formentor from here is more grandiose.

Down there, the very tiny observation deck where numerous tourists crowded. It’s amazing that even from there there was a feeling of great height above the sea. And from the Watchtower it seems that you are simply watching everything from space.

A small Spanish town, cozy and charming, which will be the starting point of our journey, is called Pollensa. It is protected by mountains, washed by the sea and is distinguished by the amazingly harsh beauty of huge inaccessible rocks. The combination of centuries-old pine trees with warm, gentle beaches is exactly what delights many tourists in the region. And this is only the first impression, because everything is eclipsed by Cape Formentor in Mallorca, where you can see simply stunning landscapes.

First, in Pollensa you need to visit the Puig de Calvari hill, where hundreds of steps lead. There are three hundred and sixty-five of them in total, but along the way you can take a break and enjoy the aromas of the heady air. At the top you can admire the antique ambiance. Thus, Puig de Maria dates back to the 15th century, the monastery of Santo Domingo, along with a charming Roman bridge, to the 14th century. The beauty and inviolability of ancient buildings is amazing here.

Cape Formentor, Mallorca. How to get there on your own

After enjoying the magnificent views of Pollensa and its ancient architecture, you can go to Cape Formentor in Mallorca. In this place, everything that previously aroused admiration will seem nondescript and boring. Because new types and emotions will be much stronger. Let's start with the mountain serpentine that connects Pollensa with the end point - the lighthouse. Driving along it is still a pleasure. The road bends like a snake, already a few meters away - there is a turn behind which, naturally, nothing is visible. It seems that oncoming cars are driving straight ahead, and on the other side there is a dimensionless abyss. In addition, the road is full of cyclists, which is for the best - cars have to adhere to a very reasonable speed.

Dangers on the road

There is no need to be afraid of reckless drivers when approaching Cape Formentor on the serpentine road in Mallorca. Drivers here are very careful, giving way to each other and pedestrians. You won't be able to get lost either - there are so many signs that it's easier to get lost in three pines. And there is only one highway from Pollensa to the lighthouse, there is simply nowhere to turn off the road, in any case you will reach the famous beach. There you can leave your car in the parking lot and go to the famous beach. Photos of Cape Formentor in Mallorca simply cannot convey all its beauty, so it’s better to see it with your own eyes. This is one of the most visited places in Spain. And if you have such an opportunity, be sure to visit there.

Cape location

The cape itself is located at the northern tip of the Spanish island and already from the plane presents a magnificent sight - a narrow and winding hulk that resembles a huge man sunbathing in the sun with his arms outstretched. The view from the cape is even more fantastic. Vast expanses of sea, mountain ranges protruding into the sea with frightening majestic cliffs and the small wild island of Kolomer. Leaving the car in the parking lot near Formentor beach, tourists can directly go down to the famous fairytale beach or go to the lighthouse of Cape Formentor in Mallorca.

Panorama and views

The cape is the northernmost point of the entire island. Here you can clearly see not only Pollensa Bay, but also another world famous Spanish resort - the island of Menorca. True, if you're lucky with the weather. On a stormy day, visibility drops significantly. But even in a storm, the view from the lighthouse is simply stunning - raging waves crash into pieces on the rock on which the lighthouse is located. An incredible spectacle not for the faint of heart. At this moment you especially feel your vulnerability to the elements.

The lighthouse of Cape Formentor (Cap de Formentor) is located at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. This area is especially popular among tourists, although Formentor and Pollensa beaches are not considered places with large crowds of people - it is prohibited to build large hotels here and you will not find noisy establishments. Except that artists come here en masse. Views of such beauty are rare on the entire planet.

Cape Formentor in Mallorca. Tourist route

The best way to get to the lighthouse and Formentor beach is to rent a car. There is also a bus from Pollensa beach, but it leaves only once a day at 10:15 and arrives at about twelve o'clock in the afternoon. Not the best option, so if you have a choice, it is better to rent a car. The latter option is also supported by the fact that the bus only goes to the observation deck, from which it is a long walk to the beach and the lighthouse and impossible to reach. Most of the beauty in this case remains behind the scenes.

Another quite acceptable option is a taxi, but it must be ordered in advance by phone. The town of Pollensa is small and finding a taxi quickly is unrealistic. You can take it first to the observation deck, then go to the beach and lighthouse, take a quiet walk while the car is waiting, and then go home on it. A visit to Cape Formentor should definitely be included in your trip program if you find yourself in Mallorca. This is truly a wonderful place, after which you will be left with a lot of positive impressions.

If you go northeast from Palma, you will arrive at a place that the locals themselves jokingly call “the end of the earth.” Cape Formentor (Mallorca) is one of the most picturesque and beautiful places on the island, the leader in the number of tourist visits. Cape Formentor, even in Mallorca, where all attractions are under the close attention of the authorities, has a special status. That is why nature here has been preserved in an almost pristine world, and even in Mallorca nowhere else can you find such impressive, sometimes even contrasting, landscapes.

Cape Formentor is located on the northeastern part of the island. It borders the Bay of Pollensa and extends far into the strait separating Mallorca and Menorca. On the cape is the famous Formentor beach - one of the cleanest in Mallorca. The air here is, without exaggeration, unique - nowhere else can you find such an amazing combination of fresh sea breeze and sun-warmed pine forest (the beach is actually a rather narrow, 8-meter strip of clean fine sand between the sea and the pine forest; its length is 850 meters) . The beach of Cala Formentor has been awarded the Blue Flag.

In addition, there are never waves here. However, the position of “lifeguard” on the beach of Formentor in Mallorca still exists - since there is an opportunity to rent a jet ski, there is a need for lifeguards.

Almost on the beach itself is the famous five-star hotel Barcelo Formentor, the most fashionable in Mallorca. If you stay here, you can park your car in the hotel parking lot; if you live in some other place, then when you reach a fork in the road (one leads to the beach, the other to the lighthouse), you will be forced to leave the car and continue on foot.

Lighthouse

One of the main attractions of Mallorca is the Formentor lighthouse, the address and photographs of which can be found on almost any tourist brochure.

The Formentor lighthouse is located on a cliff, which offers beautiful views of both the bay and the cape. On the way to the lighthouse (and you will have to get here either by car or on foot, and the walk from the nearest bus stop will be quite far) every now and then you come across observation platforms. From them you can admire the views of the island - the lighthouse is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level - the endless expanses of the sea, and see the rocky islet of Kolomer. One of the most famous is the mirador de la Creueta.

The lighthouse took quite a long time to build – six whole years. This “long-term construction” was caused by the difficulty of access to the construction site. More than a century and a half ago, in 1863, it was lit for the first time and functions to this day; Now it runs on solar panels and its operation is fully automated. There is a cafe inside.

How to get there?

Naturally, anyone who wants to visit Cape Formentor (Mallorca) has a question about how to get there. You can buy an excursion to Pollensa - in this, in general, small town there is also something to see: ancient buildings, and a staircase of 365 steps, along which a procession of believers climbs every year on Good Friday. After visiting Pollensa you will go to the cape.

In addition, from the port of Pollensa you can reach Formentor beach by boat.

One of the closest attractions to the cape is (it is located just over 35 km) and

1) the room does not correspond to 5 stars, maximum 3 stars. 2) slow, forgetful, unfriendly and non-executive staff, not all, but the majority. 3) no security, no security, including from drunken hotel residents 4) price and quality do not match 5) when leaving the hotel, we waited 20 minutes for our luggage to be taken from the room. I have never been to such a terrible place for such a lot of money.

My family and I lived in this hotel from August 9 to 17, including breakfast, and paid more than 6,000 euros for it. This is clearly not a 5 star hotel. The rooms correspond to a 3 star hotel. The staff is slow and unproductive with rare exceptions. It seems to me that the approach to hotel management is generally bad - most of the staff are men over 40 years old, who are slow, forgetful and unmotivated - the restaurants have poor service, the staff are not friendly, you feel like an unexpected and unwanted guest with any request, but, Realizing that I am crying for all this, it becomes sad. Based on the facts: 1) the room is small, the interior is old, outdated, everything is like in a sanatorium in the USSR, the minibar is replenished very rarely, faucets, doors, door handles, plumbing, cabinets are all terrible. The only thing is a good bed, everything else in the room is bad. 2) upon arrival, for the entire duration of our stay, we booked a double sun lounger on the beach for 60 euros per day, one fine day we arrive and there are no empty seats, we didn’t go to the beach every day, so I admit that on other days our sun lounger is nothing to us I didn’t make a reservation, only at the end of the holiday at the reception I asked again to reserve sunbeds for us and it didn’t matter whether we came or not, payment was guaranteed. And so in everything - each request needs to be repeated 3-4 times in order for you to be heard and finally do something, all with a long delay and constantly need to be reminded. 3) An unpleasant incident occurred near the pool. They explained to us that if there is no towel or personal belongings on the sun lounger near the pool, the sun lounger is free. One day my family and I came for lunch and took two sun loungers, on which there was nothing - no personal belongings, no towels. After some time, a Spaniard came with his wife and child in a stroller and began to be indignant that these were his sunbeds. He was very drunk. I explained to him that there was nothing on the sunbeds and we took them. This Spaniard began to be indignant that we are not in Russia, but in Spain, that these are his sun loungers, it almost came to a fight - there is no security from such inadequate people.

The only frustrating thing is the constant heat in the restaurant, where breakfast and dinner are buffets. It is impossible to breathe if there is no wind. And there is almost never any wind. It’s a bit heavy at 33-34 degrees. The sunny side heats up throughout the day, the wind does not reach. And in adjacent rooms with a connecting door there is incredible audibility. It's like living the same life with another family. All sounds are heard, steps, voices, etc.

Excellent room with a terrace, wonderful breakfast and dinner, wonderful pool. Very beautiful area

Excessive pathos of the place. Such pathos from the staff even made me sick. you feel awkward. The hotel looks more like a sanatorium for the elderly. Young people will be bored here. All the guests are elderly citizens who sometimes behave disgracefully. Insanely expensive prices. Absolutely does not match the quality. Take "all inclusive" otherwise it's a disaster. There's nothing to do, it's boring. essentially 2 restaurants on site that are not open 24 hours a day. Stock up on your own food.

The smell of bleach is everywhere. People with a good sense of smell may not like it. On the other hand, this is an excellent way of sterilization. Tea for breakfast - with chlorinated water. They asked to do it with bottled water, not tap water. Prices for beach chairs and food are very high, but correspond to the prices of five-star hotels.

The first impression was mixed: we were greeted by a small, dark room, a very old-fashioned interior, an old toilet and bathroom. Later it became clear that the hotel has a great history, and the entire ex- and interior in our eyes became a positive feature of the hotel. Delight in the gardens and beach. The beach is still in second place after the Maldives in terms of impressions. The service is kind and attentive. Magnificent views from the terraces and pool. Live music every day at dinner. Visitors are very calm and friendly. Summary: the hotel is ideal for those who need peace and privacy, antiques and history, a piano and beauty. Don't look for drive and discos here. Come to this hotel for serenity and beauty.

It was problematic to feed a child who does not eat well - at lunch. Adding pasta to the menu would help a lot.

Heaven on earth! Objectively, one of the best hotels/beaches by the sea in Europe. This was the first hotel from which we booked it again immediately. And we traveled all over the world. If the best vacation for you is a 5* All Inclusive hotel in Turkey, then most likely you don’t need to come here. If you are reading my review, having previously studied the history of the Formentor Hotel, and the philosophy of the hotel is interesting and close to you - do not read further - just book and go. I don’t think that I will ever be able to go to another seaside hotel in Europe.

The service leaves much to be desired. People don't want to invest in anything. It is difficult to write a review of a 5-star that did not live up to expectations precisely because of the service. In a room for 500 euros per night in August, in the heat outside the window +35, the air conditioning does not work well. A specialist was called three times. He says nothing can be done. The air conditioner is barely cool at maximum speed and at 16 degrees. Barely. It was generally difficult at night. Sorry to replace the freon in it. The specialist said it was stupid that their Daikin air conditioner works on cold water. This is not a fan coil, but a regular air conditioner. Rooms with sea views are located on the sunny side. In 35 degrees of heat with a poorly functioning air conditioner, it is difficult to forgive this omission. Next, the room was cleaned twice, but poorly. They change towels, yes, but it’s difficult to call cleaning. If only the bathroom and make the beds. The threads with dust lay by the sofa for 10 days. Every evening I watched them under my feet. They never removed it. A separate dissatisfaction was that in the heat, when it is impossible to breathe, the hotel restaurants serve breakfast, lunch (in the hotel building) and dinner in unconditioned rooms!! Breakfast and dinner on the sunny terrace in the scorching sun. Dinner at 21:00 was at 30 degrees! The food is good, high quality, but varied! It's ok for a week, but more than a week will get boring. There are several restaurants: 2 in the hotel and 3 on site (you need to walk through the park along the sea). It's not very good in Italian. Dining room. The most unpleasant thing is that the restaurants for lunch (3 restaurants along the sea) are visited not only by hotel guests, guests, but in general by vacationers on municipal beaches. They are brought in by large buses, and they themselves come in droves. There are a lot of people on the beach with sun loungers. And at lunchtime everyone goes to these restaurants. Hotel guests do not have any privileges in booking tables. To the general queue. Even if you book a table, it’s not just the kind you want, but in general. They can give it next to a smelly toilet, where a thousand people go every day. However, you will still have to wait in line for a table.

Everything around: nature, location, territory - everything is wonderful. Everything about the service leaves much to be desired. A magnificent old park, clear sea, nice sandy beach, wonderful pools, views from the room window! There is a choice of restaurants. The food is good everywhere, except Italian - the dining room! In the evening, a very professional tapper plays amazingly on Udina in the hotel restaurant.

“Wonderful hotel with history for a secluded holiday!”

Some household little things. There is no place in the room to dry swimsuits and swimming trunks. The bath is very small and it is difficult to regulate the water temperature. You can turn the knobs for half an hour, but still not adjust. The TV hangs in the corner of the room, making it difficult to watch. You can at least hang it on a swivel bracket. The treadmill in the gym was not working half of our time, although I told the staff about it.

Many famous people vacationed at the hotel. You can feel the atmosphere. Cape Formentor is, in my opinion, the most beautiful place in Mallorca. Since the hotel is secluded, there are only private villas around, so you can enjoy the silence among centuries-old pine trees and the clearest sea. If you want to unwind, you can take a taxi in 25 minutes or, in extreme cases, take a bus to Porta de Pollensa or Alcudia. A ferry runs from the pier not far from the hotel to Pollença several times a day (8 euros per person). It is also easy to order a car from the hotel and drive it around the entire island. Privacy explains the restrictions on choosing a place for dinner - only at the hotel. Very tasty, but expensive. The evening program sometimes includes performances by opera celebrities. The poster featured Anna Netrebko. The hotel has excellent swimming pools - for children and for adults. Due to the small number of guests, it is very comfortable to relax by the pool. There are also many sunbeds on the grass, under palm trees. In general, the area is gorgeous! Everything is green and flowers. Very beautiful and cozy. 2 minutes walk to the sea. The water is crystal clear. The beach is a narrow strip of sand with pine trees hanging over it, creating natural shade. An umbrella with two sun loungers for hotel guests costs 40-60 euros per day. There are rentals of yachts, catamarans, canoes, and jet skis. Beach cafes are also included in the hotel system, so it’s convenient to charge the bill to your room. Breakfast meets expectations. Quite varied. A restaurant with a terrace overlooking the sea, but the sea is no longer visible due to the overgrown garden. The view is great! I like to run in the morning, I tried to find paths around the hotel. This is not easy due to the difficult terrain. The hotel has a small sports room. A weight machine, a couple of bikes and a treadmill. Overall, a very worthy vacation with its own twist.

The hotel is in dire need of renovation, this is not a quibble, the room corresponds to 3 stars, no more, there is a laminate on the floor (naturally creaks!), the doors and baseboards are coming apart from below, the paint is peeling off, the quality of the plumbing and tiles in the bathroom is also quite low. It is clear that the hotel is trying to improve its name and history and is in no hurry to make major renovations.

The most beautiful territory, there are four scenic walking routes nearby, a wonderful beach, the location of the hotel itself is unique, I am sure that the cost of the hotel is not for the amenities and interiors (they do not meet expectations - regarding the room itself), but for the amazing natural beauty. There is no other hotel on Formentrøy, and the place is so fabulous that, despite my low rating, I would still return. Live music for breakfast and dinner. There are two restaurants on the beach from the hotel. The staff is friendly and tries to serve you well. In general, the only complaints are about the room itself - everything else was excellent. A hotel for a relaxing family holiday. There are a lot of older couples or with small children, and large families come, not for young people.

Cape Formentor in Mallorca is one of the most popular places. It is a narrow peninsula located in the very north of the island.

To get to the cape, you need to move towards a town called Port Pollensa, from where you climb steeply three hundred meters higher to the cliffs of Formentor.

The length of the connecting thread, which is the road between the end of the cape and the port of Pollensa, is 12 kilometers. A trip along it is akin to an attraction, caution is paramount! But ahead are the Formentora Observatory and the magnificent views that open from them.

First site
for review is equipped right on the way, you can’t miss it. Tourist buses often only reach this point, since further travel is only possible by car - the area is too narrow. So, if you want to see the lighthouse closer, you need to think about the vehicle in advance.

Next observation deck located even higher, near the ancient watchtower. The road leads to it immediately from the first observatory. And it's pretty cool! This ride is breathtaking. But the panorama from here is even more beautiful. Due to the fact that each subsequent platform is slightly higher above sea level, a feeling of soaring occurs. The opposite side of Formentor appears, together with the Gulf of Pollensa, enclosed between the already mentioned Formentor and Cape Alcudia, visible in the distance. The well-known beach of the same name on the cape, one of the cleanest in the world, is also within reach.

On the shore Formentor beach, famous for its environmental friendliness and absence of waves, a luxurious hotel was built, named, oddly enough, “Formentor”. Celebrities visited it at one time, including Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. Politicians also loved this place: Gorbachev, Churchill, Jacques Chirac.

By the way, to watchtower at the second platform you can climb a path with stone steps. Moreover, no one will forbid you to see what’s inside the ancient structure. From here you can look (if your head doesn’t spin) at the first platform, on which people will seem only like small dots!

More tourists await Formentor lighthouse, the most extreme point of the peninsula. The road that previously seemed narrow is now perceived as a wide avenue, because the one that leads directly to the lighthouse looks more like a path. It is problematic for two cars to pass each other. And ahead there are 8 kilometers of serpentine roads and even one tunnel.

Having finally reached the lighthouse, you can refresh yourself in the cafe located here. And then take a look at the opening views. Stone steps are visible along the road; perhaps once upon a time the road to the lighthouse was there. By the way, on Formentor a lot of interesting living creatures! Seagulls soar, cute mountain goats and fluffy Spanish cats run around.

Directly from the lighthouse you can go down to Formentor beach and cool off in the sea water. And also admire the five-star hotel mentioned above. Formentor, strewn with sand, is not wide, and the air here is thoroughly saturated with the amazing aroma of pine needles.
