Las Americas Tenerife what an ocean. Playa de Las Americas is the main resort of Tenerife. How to relax in Las Americas

In Playa de las Americas, the beaches are mostly artificial, with soft sand of gray shades. Thanks to modern breakwater structures, they are reliably protected from waves and offer a wide range of water activities and beach services.

Playa del Duque

Playa del Duque is rightfully considered the resort pearl of Playa de las Americas. The beach, which is about 450 meters long, is chosen by both locals and travelers for families with children in Playa de las Americas. The cost of renting a sunbed is 6 EUR, an umbrella is about 7 EUR. Entrance to an indoor shower and toilet costs a little over 2 EUR.

Chris Poole

Playa Fañabé/Playa de Torviscas

Playa Fanabe/Playa Torviscas is the largest and most equipped recreation area of Playa de las Americas (up to 960 meters long). There are all kinds of water activities, including inflatable slides for children, shopping galleries with souvenir shops, and numerous kiosks with local sweets and soft drinks. The cost of a set of two sun loungers + an umbrella is 15 EUR. Use of an indoor shower - from 1.2 EUR, toilet - 0.5 EUR.

Playa de Puerto Colon

Playa de Puerto Colon is a port beach with a picturesque green frame. Its undoubted advantages are the complete absence of waves, quick heating of the water and the close location of shopping centers, which is why couples with children often relax on Playa de Puerto Colon. A sunbed and umbrella here will cost 4 EUR. A visit to the Iceberg children's water entertainment complex costs 5 EUR/hour or 10 EUR for the whole day.

Dan Medhurst

Playa de Troya

Playa de Troya is the noisiest beach in the city, located next to Veronicas Street. Recommended for young people and fans of extreme water activities - there are always waves here. The cost of umbrellas and sunbeds is 3 EUR, a closed shower is 1.5 EUR.

Playa de las Americas has many cozy corners for surfers (Playa Honda) and well-kept beaches with walking areas and developed infrastructure (Playa del Camison). Travelers just have to choose!

Impressions from a holiday in January

Holidays at the resort of Playa de Las Americas in January are quite comfortable. The air temperature is around 20-25 degrees, sunny. Many people on the beaches not only sunbathe, but also swim, although, in my opinion, the water is cold at this time of year. In winter it is very pleasant to travel around the island, although in the center of Tenerife, in the area of the Teida volcano, roads may be blocked at this time of year due to snow and ice. Also in winter there is a high probability of strong winds or prolonged rain.

Why is it better to vacation in May?

Several years ago we vacationed in Las Americas in May, and it seemed to me that May was preferable for vacation than January. Firstly, in May the ocean is already warmer and the air temperature is higher, which allows you to spend time on the beach with great pleasure. Secondly, visiting water parks and water attractions also takes place in more comfortable conditions. I think that September and October should also be good months to visit the resort, since at this time of year there are fewer holidaymakers, but the good warm weather remains.

Vacation with children

Many parents with children fly to Tenerife in winter or early spring, when they want warmth and sun, and this is the right choice. Firstly, this is Europe, with appropriate service, food, shops, etc. There is no need to bring baby food, etc. with you. - You can buy everything here. Secondly, the flight from Moscow lasts only 7 hours, which is much less than to south-east Asia or the Caribbean islands. When traveling to the Canary Islands, you do not need to have special vaccinations and you don’t have to be afraid of exotic infections. Tenerife has a huge hotel base for every taste and budget, many apartments and aparthotels, which makes it easier to solve everyday problems that arise when vacationing with children. The developed infrastructure of the Playa de Las Americas resort makes it possible to visit interesting amusement parks and water parks with children.

Family holiday

Tenerife, to be honest, is mainly intended for family holidays; young people will find it a bit boring here. But married couples with or without children will feel comfortable here. Since often the main purpose of a trip to Las Americas is to relax on the beach, many families will already have enough wide sandy beaches and modern comfortable hotels to feel happy. Another point that vacationers like is the gastronomic component of their vacation. It's very tasty here. And for those families who cannot sit still, there is an opportunity to travel safely. Men can go fishing.

Holidays for the elderly

There are a lot of older Europeans in Playa de Las Americas. They are attracted by the fairly mild climate, the absence of sweltering heat, as well as many amenities that make life easier for older people. For example, all beaches in Las Americas are equipped with wheelchair ramps. In addition, the resort is quite calm, there are not many noisy young people here.

What to take with you on vacation?

On vacation, it is best to take casual clothes, comfortable shoes for traveling and hiking, swimsuits and swimming trunks, and sunscreen. Bring a light windbreaker with you in case of strong winds.

Where is the best place to stay?

Playa de Las Americas is a fairly respectable resort, so there are many 4-5 star hotels here. As a rule, they are located directly on the beach or very close to it. It often happens that the hotel is located on the shore, but not on the beach, so if you do not want to climb a mountain or walk 5-10 minutes to the nearest beach, carefully study this issue. The part of the city located closer to Playa de Los Cristianos is more developed in terms of entertainment and infrastructure, although, in principle, the distances here are not very large. Many families choose apartments, for example, Parque Santiago or Parque La Paz. Sol Tenerife is a very good budget hotel. As for expensive hotels, they usually fully correspond to the declared category, and you can choose any of them based on personal preferences or location.

What to do at the resort?

In addition to a beach holiday, Tenerife has many opportunities for entertainment. In close proximity to the resort there is one of the largest water parks in Europe - Siam Park, as well as the older one - Aqualand. There are also several animal and plant parks - Monkey Park, Eagle Park Jungl Park, Cactus Park. In the evening you can visit the Piamida Arona concert hall, which hosts musical theater performances that are very vibrant and dynamic. In some restaurants and clubs you can watch flamenco dancing. Lovers of sea walks can go on a yacht or catamaran, or go surfing. Those who have the time and desire for longer trips can visit the island's signature volcano, Teida, or the famous Loro Parrot Park.

The beaches in Las Americas are bays separated by breakwaters with gray sand. The sand is usually quite coarse, with small pebbles sometimes found. In general, not for everyone. The water, even in summer, is much cooler than in the Mediterranean Sea. There is a promenade along the beach, where there are numerous restaurants, bars and cafes. As a rule, there is a toilet on the beach. Part of the beach is occupied by sun loungers and umbrellas at a cost of 10-15 euros per set per day. Therefore, most vacationers use a portable umbrella and mats.

The bulk of the shops in Playa de Las Americas are concentrated in the area of the Pyramid of Arona concert hall and next to the Bahia del Duque hotel. Prices for everything are resort prices, designed for tourists, i.e. tall. Therefore, if you want shopping to be more intelligent and interesting, then you should go to the capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There are several shopping centers here, as well as the El Corte Ingles department store.

Entertainment

In this section I would like to give prices for some popular entertainment in Las Americas. So, Siam Park water park. The entrance ticket price for an adult is 34 euros, for a child - 23 euros. The prices are the same in Loro Parque. If you buy a double ticket to visit these two parks, you will save 10 euros. Entrance to Jungle park costs 24 euros for adults and 17 for children. Climbing the funicular to the Teida volcano - 26 and 13 euros, respectively.

Pros of a holiday in Playa de Las Americas

The main advantage of the Playa de Las Americas resort is that you can come here at any time of the year and have a wonderful rest. It has all the necessary tourist infrastructure, a pleasant atmosphere, and a variety of entertainment. I like that the resort is calm and safe, the ocean is clean, and there is a lot of variety of entertainment at reasonable prices. And accommodation on the island is inexpensive.

Disadvantages of holidays in Playa de Las Americas

The disadvantages of a holiday in Playa de Las Americas include the 7-hour flight and often high prices for air tickets. Besides this, this is just a resort place, so if you don’t get out of it, you won’t see anything educational, authentic and typically Canarian.

Is it worth visiting Playa de Las Americas?

Of course, this is a place worth visiting. Firstly, it is the most developed and interesting island of the Canary archipelago. There is European service, a good climate and an interesting excursion program. As an alternative to Playa de Las Americas, you can consider the island of Gran Canaria. The resort has a lot of Russian-speaking staff, which makes it easier for tourists who do not speak foreign languages.

The Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean have rightfully earned the status of an elite vacation among tourists who prefer the best of the large seven inhabited islands - Tenerife. For two decades now Playa de Las Americas holds the palm among Tenerife resorts.

History of the resort

In the early 70s, the north of the island could no longer cope with the increasing number of tourists from year to year, who were attracted by the island’s beautiful lush vegetation, healing sea air and evening walks along the wide promenade.

The government of Tenerife very quickly saw that tourism brought income to the city municipality, but the north of the island, with its choppy ocean, cloudiness and unpredictable precipitation, did not allow travelers to be received year-round.

Their gaze turned to the south, where the mountain range did not allow the cold trade winds to pass through and it rained only a few times a year. At that time, the south of Tenerife was a semi-desert with rare bushes of Canarian milkweed, which learned to exist without moisture among the stones, and several small settlements of fishermen.

The government faced a difficult task: to build hotels of various categories and create good infrastructure. Spanish and foreign investors were attracted to implement the project of transforming an abandoned strip of coast into a modern resort. This was facilitated by the appearance of an international airport 20 km from the future city, which was inaugurated in 1978 by Queen Sofia herself. For several years the airport bore the name of the Spanish Queen, until it was renamed Tenerife International Airport – South.

The city with numerous hotels, bars, restaurants, entertainment centers was built specifically for vacationers in just two decades and was named Playa de las Americas, which means “beach of America” in Spanish. Thus, the Spaniards emphasized the great feat of Columbus and his team, who discovered America. As a rule, local residents do not live in this city, but only come to work from all over the island.

Today the resort town stretches along the coast for 6 km and is visited by millions of tourists from Europe. Only 3% of the total number of tourists at the height of the season are residents of Russia. But many hotels, shopping centers and entertainment venues have recently hired Russian-speaking employees. It has also become the norm in many restaurants and bars to bring menus to customers in Russian.

“Island of Volcanoes” - this name was assigned to the island, on the territory of which in the 18th century there were a series of destructive eruptions that destroyed ¼ of the surface of the entire island.

Territorial division

In the eastern part, the busiest and most crowded with many clubs and discos, young people like to spend their holidays.

On the territories of both zones there are 7 artificial beaches with imported fine sand of gray shades. All beaches are protected from the high waves of the Atlantic Ocean by stone piers. For many tourists, stone barriers become a convenient place for fishing.

On the shore you can always rent umbrellas, sun loungers, and also ride on jet skis, banana boats, “tablets”, catamarans, speedboats and snow-white yachts. But in addition to the standard beach service, loud sellers are briskly selling fruit on the beach and Chinese masseuses are offering their services.

Beaches and hotels of Playa de Las Americas

The best beach on the coast of the entire resort is Playa del Duque - Playa del Duque.

At this port, Water Sports & Charters offers a wide range of water activities, including water skiing, motorbiking, kayaking, parasailing, diving, fishing and boat excursions, which typically include dolphin and whale watching. .

Many tourists definitely visit concert hall "Pyramid of Arona"(Piramide de Arona), a spectacular, pompous structure in the shape of a truncated pyramid, can be easily found on the border of the city with the small resort of Los Cristianos.

Its interior is similar to an ancient Greek temple.

Visitors here enjoy watching passionate and temperamental Spanish ballet, which bears little resemblance to classical ballet.

Bright and dynamic performances are an “explosive mixture” of flamenco and Spanish folk dances. The hall can accommodate 1,800 people and is equipped with the most modern audiovisual facilities.

While waiting for the performance, you can taste excellent classic French cuisine at the La Piramide restaurant.

Playa de las Americas is a popular tourist resort located on the southwest coast of the island of Tenerife. The resort was built in the 1960s and stretches west of Costa Adeje. The sun almost all year round and many sandy beaches (the sand was brought specially from Africa) attract thousands of tourists here. In addition, vacationers can enjoy duty-free shops, restaurants with excellent seafood dishes, a water park and the prestigious resort of Los Cristianos next door.

Playa de las Americas is primarily known for its sandy beaches - there are six of them in the city, each offering plenty of opportunities for water sports, including jet skiing and scuba diving. The main beach has calm waters, perfect for families with children, and Playa de Guincho is a favorite spot for surfing and windsurfing. In addition, Playa de las Americas is considered the party capital of Tenerife: cocktails, clubs and karaoke are commonplace. There are also a couple of casinos here. Nightlife centers are located in the Veronicas, Starko and Patch areas - sophisticated connoisseurs will find modern nightclubs, cabarets, concert venues, etc. here.

Half an hour's drive from Playa de las Americas is the territory of the Teide National Park with the volcano of the same name, one of the largest in the world - the main attraction of the island of Tenerife. You can climb to the top of the volcano (3718 m) along specially equipped trails or by cable car. In any case, the views from the top will not leave anyone indifferent!

You should definitely visit the Arona Central Park, opened in 2004 and spread over an area of 42 thousand square meters. It attracts with several public gardens, children's playgrounds and picnic areas. On its territory you can also see a collection of tropical and Canarian plants, including 40 species of palms, a dragon tree and several baobabs.

Also in Playa de las Americas you can find an excellent golf course (in the very center of the resort) or go on one of the many sea excursions - watch dolphins and whales, take a trip on a pirate ship or dive to the seabed in a yellow submarine.
