Badalona is a rich, diverse and cosmopolitan city, the third largest in Catalonia and one of the oldest places. Badalona is a modern city. But despite this, here you can find, for example, an ancient part of it: remains of a Roman city(Roman baths located underground), a traditional Romanesque house on Lladó Street, the Church of Santa Maria (where many sacred works of art are preserved, such as paintings by the master painter Antoni Viladomat and the image of Sant Jordi dating from the 15th century), as well as the monastery of San Jerónimo de la Murtra.

Badalona
Badalona is a city in eastern Catalonia, 10 km from the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona. Badalona is located on the left bank of the Bezos River and on the Mediterranean coast, surrounded by the Sierra de la Marina mountain range. Badalona, the capital of Catalonia, is connected not only by strong economic and cultural ties, but also by a remarkably developed transport network: the Barcelona metro line runs here, and there are many bus routes.
Modern Badalona is an economically prosperous city, a popular resort with a mild Mediterranean climate. The city has many beaches, stretching along the coastline for six kilometers. The center of Badalona's resort life is its main street, La Rambla - a beautiful street lined with palm trees and flowers, lined with shops, hotels, cafes and restaurants.
A beautiful panorama of the city and the line of beaches is revealed from one of the main attractions of Badalona - the Pont del Petroli marina. It once belonged to an oil company and was used to receive ships carrying oil. Later, when a popular recreation area was formed around it, the pier lost its former significance, becoming only a tourist attraction.
Badalona, like many other cities in Catalonia, has its origins in a small Roman settlement called Baetulo. This city supplied wine to virtually all cities located in the west of the Roman Empire, but over time the city grew, and by the beginning of the 1st century AD its population was about 15 thousand people.
To this day, the city has preserved many monuments of Roman culture, including the Roman baths, the house standing on the Rue Llado, the aqueduct on the Rue Pujol and the remains of the ancient wall of the Hort de les Monges, as well as many examples of wall paintings, mosaics and sculptures. The most famous is the relatively small bronze tablet Tabula Hospitalis, which has an inscription and its origin can be dated to around 90 AD, of course the small sculpture Venus de Badalona, made of marble. All this suggests that the city of Badalona in the distant past was one of the rich and prosperous cities located on the territory of the Roman Empire.
And the pearl of Badalona’s medieval architecture is the 13th century Monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra - a place where the kings of Spain often visited, and where Christopher Columbus stopped after his first voyage to America. Many tourists will be very interested in visiting the temples of the city, for example, the Church of St. Joseph (1860) and the Church of Santa Maria (18th century).
Badalona is a very green city. There are many parks and green recreation areas. Some of them, such as the Parc de Can Solei, were founded in the sixteenth century as part of private estates. Others, like the Parc de Ca l'Arnus, with its swimming pool, lawns, gardens, palms, plane trees, eucalyptus, bamboo and cypress trees, romantic caves, lakes and islets, once belonged to the royal family. And the Parc del Turo d'en Caritg, which began in 1990, today is a beautiful forested area spread out on the slopes of the mountain. Along with palm trees, pines, oaks, elms, ash trees and numerous flowers and shrubs grow here.
In the hottest month, August, on the 15th, Badalonians celebrate the arrival of the Virgin Mary (Mare de Déu d’Agost), which turns the whole life of the city upside down. It is the biggest holiday of the year and preparations for it are very thorough. But perhaps the most spectacular are the May holidays: on the day of St. Anastasia (May 11), the patroness of Badalona, various festive events are held throughout the city. And the night before it, the festival of the burning of the demon takes place (El dimoni de Badalona or Cremada del Dimoni), ending with fireworks and the burning of a huge demon on one of the beaches. The whole city takes part in the celebration, and schoolchildren also make themselves small demons, which they then place at the base of the main figure so that they burn together.
